A haunting song; one may wish to compare this with an equally beautiful setting by Henry Leslie (1822-1896). The poet seems to be saying that' love is stronger than death', but in a rather disturbing psychosexually-disturbed fashion that was possibly overlooked by Victorian auditors.
@deliriousflame80 For me, I can't imagine this poem placed anywhere better than with Vanguard and Ms. Baez. Stevie is great for anything else, maybe, but I'm more of a Fleetwood Mac fan, than a Nicks fan.
Can't stay away from such sounds, especially when needed. I only wish it were longer, that I could listen with headphones while reclining in a favorite spot in the woods, looking up through the tops of trees on a perfectly clear, temperate day. Thank you Don Dilworth, Peter Schikele, and of course, Without Whom..
I have been in love with Joan Baez since high school, and I am a grandfather now. I love the p;urity of her voice, and I love what she did for peace and justice in her life. She is a special woman indeed. Who composed the musical setting of this?

For an incredible rendition of this song, check out Stevie Nicks' version on "In Your Dreams." Gorgeous.

I have yet to hear such a perfect piece of music and voice so perfectly matched to accompany such words, entirely. Timeless.
