I can watch him over and over, and often have. What an amazing actor. My son and I love the movie Rope, its an Alfred Hitchcock, and takes place in one room with just a few actors, but Jimmy Stewart shines in it.
one of his greatest scenes, truly amazing is near the end of flight of the phoenix
his scathing anger at Hardy Kruger as he is throwing in the cylinders to start the prop the anger runs down your spine then look at how it relapses into aw shucks near the end as they come over the hill with the line was that yards mr dorfman meters mr towne meters he just might have had more range or certainly as much as Cagney but they were out of this world yet so much in it
As well-known and well-liked as Stewart is, I don't think he gets enough credit as an actor, talent-wise. He was one of the most naturalistic actors of classic Hollywood, with great screen presence, always believable, often very sympathetic, and, when he wanted to be, intense and even dark. A legend.
My absolute favorite actor. Maybe it is his style, or just his knack for picking good parts, or maybe its because movies just used to be plain better, but his movies are amazing.
I disagree. Casual movie fans will recognize him It's a WOnderful Life. Real Stewart fans will recognize for every role from The Mortal Storm to Mr. Washington to Harvey and countless others. He did many greater movies than It's a Wonderful Life.
I think NBC has exclusive rights to IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE or something. But it is a key film and you can't have Jimmy Stewart without Capra's magnum opus and vice versa.

I forgot what a great turnaround he did in "Another Thin Man", turning out to be the killer.
