Our federal government is critically screwed and we all know no one is going to fix it so we are just going to throw money at the problem and hope it unscrews itself?
Either party can cite several reasons why this is so.
If Texas seceded it would not hold it back I am sure states like California hold us all back when they can't balance their own budget, they must be mimicing what the fed gov does.
the federal government needs to reboot and defrag but it will not do it by itself.
As usual, Media Matters doesn't even make an argument. This doesn't even count as fair use. They just count on the idiots in their subscriber base to come up with their own objections to what Glen Beck & host were talking about.
Check out my video. If you don't believe in secession, then you believe in slavery, for you are for enslaving people to a government that they want no part of:
So these are the super Patriots for the world to see. At a time when the Neo-Cons put us in two wars and God knows what else world wide, they want to leave the union! These assholes should be arrested and tried for cowardice and crimes against the nation. Send them to Gitmo for 10 years. They make me sick. They don't love this country people, wake up!!!!
It does not, as it is controlled by the worlds most powerful people.
- George Soros has just given media matters $1M to distort and smear Glenn Beck so Soros can carry out his managed decline of the dollar. If you follow media matters, stop following them now. This is nothing but propaganda to divert the masses and brainwash you into thinking what they're doing is a good thing.
- You are being manipulated by the media while they carry out their plan. Wake up.
Nothing would make me happier than to see Texas secede. Afterwards, I'd like to see the Federal Government deport the teabaggers there. Then the rest of us could proceed into the 21st century while the Jesus freaks die quietly and permanently.
@fearguis I love how you think Texas would just dwindle down and die off when that's exactly what the rest of the country is doing. Economically, it's the second most powerful state, behind California, which is rapidly losing jobs as corporations relocate to Texas because of its business friendly environment. Something like 80% of jobs created in the US over the past decade were in Texas. You idiots really think that you'd leave them behind, and "proceed into the 21st century"? I laugh.
The problem with that argument is that having the LARGEST economy does not mean it has the most STABLE. In fact, many southern right-to-work states actually take in more government money than they pay in taxes, so, bottom line, there are several states that increase the national debt due to imbalances in state economic policy. Texas is one of these negative-bottom-line states. So, go ahead and secede. You'll have to create your own profits, meaning that you'll need legislative reform.
Oh, and those reforms will weaken your nation at first, just like it did to the US, but maybe you'll make it alone and in 100 or so years you'll be a stable nation. And hey, if you need us AMERICANS to save your asses again, we'll send our Davy Crockets, Jim Bowies, and William Travis' to help. But maybe this time, you can actually credit the states they were from, and not just call them "Texan Heroes"
8 years of Bush. Unsafe domestic policy, doubling the national debt, nearly doubling the unemployment. You assclowns were silent. You are frauds, please leave.
Imagine if we split into a conservative side and a liberal side. Politics might could actually do some good because it just wouldn't be liberals and conservatives arguing all day.

glen beck is a fat, fake crying(proven), lying toad. if your a fan your a f*#king idiot. he tries his best to get everyone to think he's some patriot, but his gutless ass would never put himself out for america. he wont even tell the truth. look at all the globalists he supports. then look at the independents he doesn't. oh, n he isn't too good at interpreting the constitution either. pathetic.
Imagine if we split into a conservative side and a liberal side. Politics might could actually do some good because it just wouldn't be liberals and conservatives arguing all day.
@olivemike81 I do not advocate civil war nor do I hope for it. It would be very interesting however, if America did split into two geographical parts(through secession) one liberal and one conservative. It would not be hard to figure out which group would show a profit. Liberals are locusts, they destroy a community then move on to the next. This time however they want to pull the whole country down into the abyss permanently.
i love texas. i was born here. i was raised here.
i do believe that we can be self sufficient resource wise.
however, secede from America? are you fucking stupid??? no wonder people think we're idiots. its because of that asshole getting air-time on beck's ignorant little show.
Unification under the constitution and the flag of the United States is the only way to prosper. we had a confederation right after the Revolution and check it: that bitch failed hard.
This is so retarded. I live in Texas, and I sure as hell cannot see how it can stand on its own.Texas is dependent just as all the other states on the big fat teats of the US government.Besides U really think a confederacy would really hold? Would Germany or Japan have back down from a bunch of seperate arguementative states?Would the Soviet Union have dared to not expand because of a bunch of disorganized banners? These things were possible because we were UNITED!! We r stronger under one flag.
sure it would it' wouldn't be any different. The little district in columbia would be gone that's it. The feds don't really do much anyway. I never see them we are pretty much self sufficient as it is. Except for their stupid legislation and threats they force down all of our throats. What you've stated proves completely why we need to stay connected to each other. Texas I think would do fine but other states need help. We don't have to be enemies. We can all abolish the feds peacefully.
See your'e one flag thing is only looking at one side. Stronger, yes undoubtedly but are we more free? that is the question. And we are the last superpower we aren't needed anymore it's time to relinquish our Central Government and choose the path of peace. Diplomacy and money will work in place of guns and tanks. Just like it did in the past before we became a centralized monstrosity. We can always instill new government such is our right as a free and sovereign people.
@23Kite secession is imminent with the way that the govt is growing & growing against the will of the ppl. You just have to accept reality. If texas secedes many other nations will do so/ Im with that since its the liberals who divided the nation with their radical agendas. One way or another the rest of us arent going to live with that.
@2decide Absolutely not your right to decide. A sovereign group of people decides that. Not you, not the federal government. A sovereign people decides their own destiny... understand? Basic human right. Nonviolent resistance is key.
boohooo.. we hate the current administration so much, we can't sand it. We lost, we're a bunch of whiny ass traitorous losers who want to break up the Union because our horse came second. waaa waa waa waa.
Texas is the only state in the country to actually have once been a country--So they have experience. Also, they're big enough to be self-supporting. Plus they are'nt infected by all the liberalism which unfortunately--my state--NY suffers. But,inspite of that, the question of secession was settled in1865 by Abraham Lincoln and General Grant. And that's all.
Perhaps they SHOULD allow Texas to leave. They are one of the states that recieves a disproportionately large amount of federal dollars! DROP THEIR ASSES! Texas would become a banana republic, with a few wealthy families running the state in total dictatorship.
We'd likely have to build a fence to keep those damned Texans out!
What the hell is this guy talking about. i lived in houston my whole life and ive never even heard of this. just typical glen beck trying to get attention
Try fighting in a state that wants to call you an extremist and see where you end up. I'll be fighting from a state that believes in freedom NOT tyranny!
Remember that the states made the federal government, not the other way around!
Wanting to leave the union doesn't make you a "true American patriot", it makes you a traitor, you fucking dumbass. I'm guessing you live somewhere upstate which is basically Canada to us real New Yorkers. I suggest you just tip toe across the border since you obviously don't like America. Goodbye, you won't be missed.
Leaving the Union doesn't make me a traitor. I live in the Hudson Valley in the city that was once the first Capitol of the state. Don't think for one second that just because you live in a city named New York makes you a "real" New Yorker. All it truly makes you is a dick head.
Remember, the states were here long before the federal government. You may need to go back to school if you don't understand that yet.
You will be fighting for a gov't you hate.?? That's your choice. It does not mean your opinion is more valid.
I agree leaving "the union doesn't make you a "true American patriot", it makes you a traitor, you fucking dumbass". This guys analogy if off; it's more like a spoiled brat did not get what he wanted, so he is going to run away from home.
Why when repubs have things going their way they say, "do what the government says and dont question them"? When they are out of power they call it socialist, fascist, and want to secede! Is this some kind of disconnect with "democracy"? Why even bring up "secession", becuz u disagree with a policy? Trying to stoke flames in fringe folk, maybe? Sometimes just dignifying outrageousnes is equal to an "Ok" for some nutjobs! Who disagrees?
And I thought conservatives have screwed up Canada. Can't wait for Obama to announce the building of a wall around Texas. Another false rumour for Beck to spread
I wish Texas would just fucking go away. Hey news flash, unless you own a horse or cattle ranch, take the fucking cowboy hat's off. Fucking Hick queers.
These are the cries of a constituency that feels disenfranchised — by the powerful and the well-educated who gamed the housing bubble, by a news media it keeps being told is hateful, by the immigrants who have taken some of their jobs, by the African-American who has ended a white monopoly on the White House.
And liberals are people that think socialism will work this time. Regardless of history that shows it DOES NOT WORK, they want to try it again...that's called stupidity
Since you said California, Washington D.C. and all OTHER STATES ABOVE OHIO. Thought u were referring to DC as a state.
You honestly think if Texas suceeded it would have that huge of an impact on oil? Have you ever hear of OPEC? The huge middle eastern company that starves us of oil to unfairly raise the price of oil in the US. THATS Where our source of oil comes from to use, all the oil we extract within the states goes into reserves (for an emergency), or is sold.
The Texan economy is strong enough to be self-sustaining provided free trade with other states/countries is allowed.
What is important to remember here is that the Texas secessionist movement is reliant on one key factor: people's concept of what a state is and the powers it has.
Ask a U.S. citizen who they are and you'll hear "I'm an American".
If they are from Texas, they'll say "I'm a Texan".
There is a dream that is Texas. Have the courage to make it so.
Lincoln skulked around the WhiteHouse, worried shitless about what Gen. Robert E. Lee was doing in the field, right up 'til Lee surrendered.
Lincoln was terrified to Lee. Rightly so, all military historians agree that Robt. E. Lee was the greatest field commander this nation has ever seen. General Ng Vo Giap of the North Viet Namese army used Lee's tactics to whip us in VietNam. LBJ thought he'd win in Nam with "superior firepower", which is what the old Union generals believed at first
LBJ relied on "superior firepower" because it meant huge military expenditures. Though a construction company in Texas, LBJ was taking giant kickbacks from all contractors supplying our military in VietNam. I worked in DC at the time. It was well know there. LBJ was one of the biggest con-men this country has ever had the misfortune to trust in high office. JFK came to despise the man.
Eisenhower was worried sick that LBJ would somehow weasel his way into the Presidency. He sure did...
Depends on how you look at it, Lincoln suspended Habeas Corpus and people of the time looked at him as a tyrant to a degree. If you want to go the extreme and say he was one, go for it. History decides him of a lesser charge however, that's whats important.
General Lee's movements kept Lincoln in a constant state of agitation. It was war, and Lincoln made decisions he might have made differently had it not been so, and had Lee not been such a successful strategist in the field. Lincoln was not a willing "tyrant". He was just so terrified of losing the war, and the shame it would bring to his Presidency. So he made a few panicky decisions that made it seem as though he was a bit tyrannical. He wasn't really, just under a lot of strain...
I beleive states should suceeds from union. U S is a Big government who wants to CONTROL everything, and give more power to the Federal Reserve. I beleive Bush, and Obama has a agenda to create one world government.
Well, I certainly agree that an operation is in order. On the other hand, I surely don't think trusting the state governments is the answer. I live in New York--have you SEEN the joke that is our state legislature and the tantrum they're currently throwing?
i should clarify, the federal government needs to be rolled back. power has been so far removed from the people that now we only get a token election every 4 years. sure we can vote for Reps and what not, but all they do is sit around DC and bicker over ideology and what they think is best. if more power rested with the States, as the Constitution had intended, we would have more control and i believe we would see a government for and by the people. i'm sick of these career politicians.
And, I will add that if secession were to happen, it would be one where America is in the toilet or econmically bankrupt, the US military is is widdled to nothing and secession is more of a necessity than any notion or will of the politically charged.
It would be a sort of "rise from the ashes" secession.
Most people don't even like Texas or Texans. Tell me who would really stop Texas from seceeding? Don't give me a bunch of liberal nonsense about how the US military would come marching down the streets of Austin and start killing people. Hell, liberals found our invasion of Iraq heavy handed and unconstitutional. You think sending troops in to shoot English speaking neighbors is going to fly. No.
This is more about the Fed's control over states rights more than anything.
Yes, I agree. I'd like to see a gang of federal thugs drive on the streets of Austin and start shooting people. They would find a Texas sharpshooter behind ever blade of grass! The federal thugs and their leaders would be cut to pieces.
Besides the federal gov't is just a bully, looking for something to steal, if it thinks it can get away with it. The U.S. gov't goes after people and places whom they already know can't possibly defend themselves militarily, or legally for that matter.
These 2 guys are morons or pandering to morons. No one is going to secede.
Anyway, white people will be in a minority in Texas very soon. Bunch of whacko conservatives lost and now doing everything possible to lose every election for eternity.
If they want succeed, I don't see how a nation that prides itself on freedom and being the "first" democratic country could force a group of people who wanted to leave to stay. It'd be a rough process, but honestly if they don't agree with the system we have now there's no moral argument you could make that they should have to stay. It's not like they're saying "we want to start a country where we can kill babies and rape women" they don't agree with how things work and want to leave.
Secession? Please please please do it,we'll hold the door for ya. And make sure ya take Crawford Ranch with ya. LOL not one "tea party" from 2000-2008 whatta bunch dickwadds!
If Texas should ever really secede, be assured of this, Texas won't be alone.
Like Texas, 25 other states are currently passing legislation which draws a line in the sand for Washington D.C. You kid yourself if you think the rest of the states would gang up on Texas. Not hardly. Not by a long shot! Other states would secede with Texas, just as in the Civil War, and still other states would be militarily sympathetic to Texas. Your so-called leadership in Washington would be terrified.
It's a bunch of nonsense! Neither Texas nor any other state has anything resembling a majority that's FOR secession. Texas is one of the most patriotic states in the US for crying out loud.
It's just a few conservative babies crying because they lost. "I didn't win, so I'll take my toys and leave"
Tell me something? What was governor Rick Perry of Texas talking about the other day. I guess he speaks for a "few conservative" cry babies, as you put it. A few, huh?
have you looked into the states rights movement occurring in the US right now? We won't have to secede, we'll just all point to D.C. and laugh, then ignore them and the United States can get on with their lives.
The hi-rollers in Washington are burning their boats with many states in the U.S. Futhermore Washington has made many enemies around the world. Secessionist states would have supporters outside the United States.
If Washington was insane enough to lob a nuke at Austin, countries like China and Russia would take D.C. out with a nuke, in a heartbeat. From their point of view, it would be a golden chance to settle some old scores, once and for all.
This is certainly true, Smerk. Washington would be in a prickly situation, no matter what stunt they tried to pull after Texas and others withdrew. If Washington tried to declare martial law on the states that stayed with the Union, some of those states would resent martial law on them, and they too would secede, or help Texas in other ways... Never doubt it.
By no means would the yah-whos in D.C. have anything like a clear advantage as some simple-minded loyalists here have imagined.
Don't get me wrong, I'd hate to see it come to that. Your're right, there would be no clear advantage for either side. Texas would be in a very tight spot, no doubt, but Washington would be surrounded by it's old enemies around the world and they'd be licking their chops...
First of all ratings are determined not by the number of views, but random sampling. So to suggest that because one group or person watches a network increases that networks' ratings is stupid.
Haha, so is MM saying that anytime you air grievances against the government, you are taking a secession gateway drug? How silly! Doesn't MM believe in free speech?
Secession from the US is equal with treason. Which I think the constitutions requires treason to be punishable by death. So yeah..thats a dumb idea.... You pay taxes to support the goverment which gives the constitution its power. I am so annoyed of these nutjobs that don't know U.S History. The Anti-Federalist lost the argument against the concept of a strong federal goverment.
The government doesn't give the constitution it's powers. The constitution is there to limit the federal government powers. Let me guess, your rights come from the state to huh?
No I am pretty sure the Constitution was written by the Federalist who beleived in a in a strong federal goverment. It explicity limits the powers of the states and it gives supreme lawful authority to the Fed. Govt. and establishes its existence..
To bad it means just as much as toilet paper to most politicians.
I don't think he's a nut job though, a few states are trying the 10th amendment deal. Funny though, the states doing talking about it have run their affairs pretty well. While fedzilla runs out of control, don't blame them.
If you're in a club which keeps on taking more money for dues and/or charging you more to be a member, would you stay in the club? Only if you want them to take everything you've got, and put you in the street. But you wouldn't allow that, neither would anybody, if they're in their right mind.
No state would secede without weighing the situation very carefully. Any state would only secede because the lying bums in D.C. leave them with no choice.
If Texas secedes and Obama attacks Texas, guess who else will secede -- in a heartbeat. At least 20 additional states. Yes, secession isn't just in the minds of Texans these days. And, when the shooting begins, guess who will be the first to run and hide? Your so-called fearless leaders, namely, Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Reid, Clinton and the rest of the conniving parasites in Washington who have been lying to us. They will run and hide like stinking cowards, because that's all they ever were.
If Obama destroys the country the heartland would do well in starting over without the trash. We'll need real Americans if things continue to go the way they are. We already fought a civil war before...is it really hard to conceive the possibility of a second round given the right conditions...
I don't blame them. Texas is one of the few states actually doing good budget wise and job growth. Why be dragged down with the rest of the liberal shit holes.
Take away the military bases and the Govt agencies (like NASA) whats left in Texas? do you think the US would let companies like Lockheed Martin or Bell manufacture High-tech military equipment in a "foreign" Texas, or if the Agri-Business could survive with out federal subsidy/? with out the US Texas is nothing.
Infact Texas should be allowed to secede then when it comes crawling back to the 49, the fed should strip it of statehood and absorb its land into neighboring states.
Texas in the last few years has had more job growth then all 49 states combined. Oil and agriculture is booming on their gulf coast. The union and fedzilla would be hurt, not Texas. The fed would lose a lot of revenue. And I bet Texas would have to protect it's borders to keep people from other states out.
over $1 Billion in farm subsidies a year does help.
Check out the number of federal jobs in Texas, 20000 from NASA alone plus the thousands of Troops stationed in Texan bases.
Why would anyone want to move to a non US Texas? the demographics would change once the high tech companies leave and within a few decades the Latino majority could vote to join Mexico...
Why would high tech companies leave a low tax state like Texas? Their budget is under control, so they can pay for their own state workers. As for NASA it wouldn't destroy the Texas economy. 20% of America's oil is refined in Texas. And without the crazy fed restrictions I think Texas would drill more. Texas also rank #1 in beef production. The Fed has also been hampering the border protection efforts of the local counties. I think Texas would win out.
The high tech jobs are servicing the US military (Lockheed & Bell) they cannot be outsourced -companies like Dell and AT&T would need to move their headquarters back to the US or risk losing contracts with US Govt for national security.
They're still private companies and can have their headquarters where ever they want. They bid on government jobs, not owned by the government. Companies outsource all the time. The Fed would have to bully the company's and make Texas a security threat. Could happen, but not likely. It's more about the 10th ad then secession anyway. Don't blame them though, the fed is over reaching it's bounds.
The "foreign" private companies would not be allowed to bid for military contracts, same reason why Rogers Telecoms or Deutchse Telecom cannot. Off course they can outsource call centres but none of the core service.
The point im making is all 50 states are great when part of the union, individually they are nothing, so anyone trying to break the unity of the union is not only a base traitor to the US but also a narrow sighted fool who will drag their state down too.
I get your point, and agree for the most part. I don't want to see Texas leave the union and doubt they will.
But...
So they'll bid for the country of Texas. Come on, corporations already go where it's cheapest to work.
The point I'm making is despite of the out of control fedzilla, Texas has its budget and affairs in order. Why should they take fed money with all the strings attached if they don't need it. Why force them to call on the 10th in the first place.
The fed wants total control. And gains it by bribing broke states, but Texas isn't broke. Along with a few other states bringing up the 10th ad. So why force them to take money they don't need?
You have a point about farm subsidies. It's political death in heavy farming area's to go against the federal subsidies, which have been proven not to work anyway. Most goes to large farms and pay people not to farm, it's ridiculous. But without the fed giving Texas money they'd have to work it out.
Umm. Texas comparing themselves to an abused spouse. They are like the capitol of abused spouses. It's a good ol boy state are you kidding me. Good riddance have fun protecting you borders cause federal government doesn't have to help them if they sucede. Morons.
I think you need to go back and take a history class. Study Federalist Vs Anti-Federalist. The Federalist were that ones push for all states to ratify the United States Constitution.
LOL my relatives thought I was absolutely LOADED when I was making $10/hr at my college job 6 years ago. That same job pays over $14 now. Businesses have incorporated in Texas for tax reasons forever. That doesn't mean that's where the company's money and jobs are staying.
1) TALKING secession isn't treason--you need an overt act; otherwise it's 1st Amendment
2) The Civil War was a political/military settlement--I don't believe there was any strictly LEGAL fallout
3) Theoretically, I agree that secession SHOULD be legal (although morality trumped legality in 1861), but I wonder if Texans realize what they would lose--there's a lot of federal $ there.
4) Against no-exit contracts? To be consistent, you'd have to give Gitmo back to Cuba...
I suppose technically it's treason to suggest secession... but unless you want the debate to get very visceral very fast, such recourse to argument-as-symbol-parade is counterproductive.
To defeat secession you must describe why it is bad materially and spiritually. Also, you must convict the secessionist by demonstrating what it is in their psyche that finds secession appealing. When they realize that secession springs from insecurity, they will change their tune.
racjis: Your comments scare me just as much as looney right wingers. You are accusing people of TREASON just like people did when they expressed descent with the Iraq war, and throwing in racist just because.

23Kite 2 years ago 5
sure it would it' wouldn't be any different.
Luigi84289 2 years ago
See your'e one flag thing is only looking at one side. Stronger, yes undoubtedly but are we more free? that is the question. And we are the last superpower we aren't needed anymore it's time to relinquish our Central Government and choose the path of peace. Diplomacy and money will work in place of guns and tanks. Just like it did in the past before we became a centralized monstrosity. We can always instill new government such is our right as a free and sovereign people.
Luigi84289 2 years ago
@23Kite secession is imminent with the way that the govt is growing & growing against the will of the ppl. You just have to accept reality.
RodCornholio 2 years ago
So by that logic... Abraham Lincoln was a tyrant?
jeremyhartwood 2 years ago
Lincoln skulked around the WhiteHouse, worried shitless about what Gen. Robert E. Lee was doing in the field, right up 'til Lee surrendered.
Lincoln was terrified to Lee. Rightly so, all military historians agree that Robt. E. Lee was the greatest field commander this nation has ever seen. General Ng Vo Giap of the North Viet Namese army used Lee's tactics to whip us in VietNam. LBJ thought he'd win in Nam with "superior firepower", which is what the old Union generals believed at first
DrStimulus 2 years ago
We never lost a battle in vietnam though. LBJ had to rely on "Superior Firepower" because the public didn't support the war.
HFthegreat 2 years ago
LBJ relied on "superior firepower" because it meant huge military expenditures. Though a construction company in Texas, LBJ was taking giant kickbacks from all contractors supplying our military in VietNam. I worked in DC at the time. It was well know there. LBJ was one of the biggest con-men this country has ever had the misfortune to trust in high office. JFK came to despise the man.
Eisenhower was worried sick that LBJ would somehow weasel his way into the Presidency. He sure did...
OldBenFranklin 2 years ago
Well I agree that Lee was a brilliant general, but that has nothing to do with whether or not Lincoln was a tyrant.
jeremyhartwood 2 years ago
Depends on how you look at it, Lincoln suspended Habeas Corpus and people of the time looked at him as a tyrant to a degree. If you want to go the extreme and say he was one, go for it. History decides him of a lesser charge however, that's whats important.
HFthegreat 2 years ago
General Lee's movements kept Lincoln in a constant state of agitation. It was war, and Lincoln made decisions he might have made differently had it not been so, and had Lee not been such a successful strategist in the field. Lincoln was not a willing "tyrant". He was just so terrified of losing the war, and the shame it would bring to his Presidency. So he made a few panicky decisions that made it seem as though he was a bit tyrannical. He wasn't really, just under a lot of strain...

brpierce 2 years ago
i should clarify, the federal government needs to be rolled back. power has been so far removed from the people that now we only get a token election every 4 years. sure we can vote for Reps and what not, but all they do is sit around DC and bicker over ideology and what they think is best. if more power rested with the States, as the Constitution had intended, we would have more control and i believe we would see a government for and by the people. i'm sick of these career politicians.
P5Y0P 2 years ago
And, I will add that if secession were to happen, it would be one where America is in the toilet or econmically bankrupt, the US military is is widdled to nothing and secession is more of a necessity than any notion or will of the politically charged.
It would be a sort of "rise from the ashes" secession.
ciscoguru69 2 years ago

TommyTriggerFinger 2 years ago
Hell guys...
No.
This is more about the Fed's control over states rights more than anything.
ciscoguru69 2 years ago
Yes, I agree. I'd like to see a gang of federal thugs drive on the streets of Austin and start shooting people. They would find a Texas sharpshooter behind ever blade of grass! The federal thugs and their leaders would be cut to pieces.
Besides the federal gov't is just a bully, looking for something to steal, if it thinks it can get away with it. The U.S. gov't goes after people and places whom they already know can't possibly defend themselves militarily, or legally for that matter.

If they want succeed, I don't see how a nation that prides itself on freedom and being the "first" democratic country could force a group of people who wanted to leave to stay. Like Texas, 25 other states are currently passing legislation which draws a line in the sand for Washington D.C. You kid yourself if you think the rest of the states would gang up on Texas. Your so-called leadership in Washington would be terrified.

Truer words were never spoken, OldBen!
SmerkNomGool 2 years ago
This is certainly true, Smerk. Washington would be in a prickly situation, no matter what stunt they tried to pull after Texas and others withdrew. If Washington tried to declare martial law on the states that stayed with the Union, some of those states would resent martial law on them, and they too would secede, or help Texas in other ways... Never doubt it.
By no means would the yah-whos in D.C. have anything like a clear advantage as some simple-minded loyalists here have imagined.
DrStimulus 2 years ago
Don't get me wrong, I'd hate to see it come to that. Your're right, there would be no clear advantage for either side. Texas would be in a very tight spot, no doubt, but Washington would be surrounded by it's old enemies around the world and they'd be licking their chops...

OldBenFranklin 2 years ago
If Obama destroys the country the heartland would do well in starting over without the trash. We'll need real Americans if things continue to go the way they are. We already fought a civil war before...is it really hard to conceive the possibility of a second round given the right conditions...
grabac9 2 years ago
I don't blame them. Texas is one of the few states actually doing good budget wise and job growth. Why be dragged down with the rest of the liberal shit holes.
stewy357 2 years ago
Take away the military bases and the Govt agencies (like NASA) whats left in Texas? do you think the US would let companies like Lockheed Martin or Bell manufacture High-tech military equipment in a "foreign" Texas, or if the Agri-Business could survive with out federal subsidy/? with out the US Texas is nothing.
Infact Texas should be allowed to secede then when it comes crawling back to the 49, the fed should strip it of statehood and absorb its land into neighboring states.
xdir 2 years ago
Wrong.
Texas in the last few years has had more job growth then all 49 states combined. Oil and agriculture is booming on their gulf coast. The union and fedzilla would be hurt, not Texas. The fed would lose a lot of revenue. And I bet Texas would have to protect it's borders to keep people from other states out.
stewy357 2 years ago
over $1 Billion in farm subsidies a year does help.
Check out the number of federal jobs in Texas, 20000 from NASA alone plus the thousands of Troops stationed in Texan bases.
Why would anyone want to move to a non US Texas? the demographics would change once the high tech companies leave and within a few decades the Latino majority could vote to join Mexico...
xdir 2 years ago
Why would high tech companies leave a low tax state like Texas? Their budget is under control, so they can pay for their own state workers. As for NASA it wouldn't destroy the Texas economy. 20% of America's oil is refined in Texas. And without the crazy fed restrictions I think Texas would drill more. Texas also rank #1 in beef production. The Fed has also been hampering the border protection efforts of the local counties. I think Texas would win out.
stewy357 2 years ago
The high tech jobs are servicing the US military (Lockheed & Bell) they cannot be outsourced -companies like Dell and AT&T would need to move their headquarters back to the US or risk losing contracts with US Govt for national security.
xdir 2 years ago
They're still private companies and can have their headquarters where ever they want. They bid on government jobs, not owned by the government. Companies outsource all the time. The Fed would have to bully the company's and make Texas a security threat. Could happen, but not likely. It's more about the 10th ad then secession anyway. Don't blame them though, the fed is over reaching it's bounds.
stewy357 2 years ago
The "foreign" private companies would not be allowed to bid for military contracts, same reason why Rogers Telecoms or Deutchse Telecom cannot. Off course they can outsource call centres but none of the core service.
The point im making is all 50 states are great when part of the union, individually they are nothing, so anyone trying to break the unity of the union is not only a base traitor to the US but also a narrow sighted fool who will drag their state down too.
xdir 2 years ago

Agreed. It's almost as bad as the horse-riding cowboy stereotype we're forced to endure from people that have only seen Texas in a travel brochure...

Just remember one thing folks, the states created the federal government..it's not the other way around!

I think you need to go back and take a history class. Study Federalist Vs Anti-Federalist. The Federalist were that ones push for all states to ratify the United States Constitution.

"Only successful state in the union."

Now now, he didn't ask. He said "You actually believe......gateway to secession. Is that true?" He was confirming the idiots previous statements.

racjis: Your comments scare me just as much as looney right wingers. You are accusing people of TREASON just like people did when they expressed descent with the Iraq war, and throwing in racist just because. Extreme liberals are looking more and more facist every day and it scares the hell out of me.
