Mammoth Mountain Biking '09, Velocity, Shotgun, Flow, Twilight Zone, Chainsmoke, Techno Rock

so ive got a trek 4500 hardtail. Ive never really been mountain biking. But id like to go to mammoth next season. SHould i maybe get a full supension? id like to do the legit runs.  Not the bunny slope BS. And what do most people wear besides elbow and knee pads. Full face helmet? Full chest protector?

@jordanhante ya you would want to full suspension. i went last year and had a blast. and i wouldn't really say that you need elbow pads unless you want to and ya i would use knee pads. but i wouldn't wear a full chest protector unless you get a soft one that you put under your shirt so you can still have full movement while your going down hills

@ryder631 Yes that is the rock garden on velocity at the beginning of the film. I was trying to answer coffeycake96's question about the drop at 1:57, which is the flow drop. I could have made it clearer but I don't usually comment much on YouTube so I didn't really know how it all worked.

@ryder631 BTW I ride an IronHorse SGS Pro DH, good bike. I spent quite a bit of time this year at that rock garden, helping out another rider who was trying to get that section down. I also finally tried the flow drop this year, its BIG/scary the first time, but its not really that bad :)

@travissn I cant picture that bike but Im sure its pretty sick. The flow drop is pretty sick once you stick it. Have you ridden it since the new wall rides?

@ryder631 I was at Mammoth in the first part of August 2010, Flow seemed to not have anything new/changed since last season. I can think of the one wall ride on flow, it turns left and goes around a tree (sort of). Did they add another wall ride on flow? Yeah the flow drop gives you a good adrenaline rush for sure.

Thanks for the note. My son has had a great time with the V10. Last summer, we did trips to Mammoth, Northstar and Whistler. He definitely got his money's worth out of the bike, but has finally outgrown it. What are you riding these days?

@coffeycake96 Hey Im the kid in the video with the blue helmet and the sunday, I went of the drop first in a green shirt. Yeah that is the flow drop. Its more psychological than any else. At the top when you get on the ladder try not to brake and when you drop off don't brake on the ladder or you'll slide out. Good Luck

its in santa barbara california. two places called el wood. (really sick and some HUGE jumps there) and more messa. more secret area that me and some of my friends know about. me and my friend usually are on kona stuff. and a my friend customized his bike. so we usually dirt jump and downhill

Yes that is the flow drop. It looks so much more gnarly in person too :) I haven't done it yet, have watched people hit it and its fun to watch.

sick vid bro I just got back from a 2dayer..any recommendation on what bike to get? Got around 1200 and looking for something like kona stinky deluxe or norco stryk..Used. Preferrably 18 gears (like the specialized sx trail 1)
