  • her arms are absolutely amazing!!!! stunning!

  • stop criticism, At the end what matters is that most of us enjoyed it. Was she the best Dying swan?, no I've seen better ones, but she was ok and I enjoyed it. End of the conversation.

  • Graceful, sublime part-de-bras, she convincingly expresses pain throughout her entire body: the agonizing cambre, the frustrated attempts to flight and her arms, her arms just took her away, beyond clouds, mountains and the sky.

  • however nothing like cuban's ballet they have this special unique tecnic with this special accento that make spec ial stamp and termination . period....

  • esas manos por dios!!! ese balance!!! UNA GROSA TOTAL

  • Russians technique is primitive and not so safe for dancers body.

Cubans are amazing....All credit to dictorship, people get tough and push themselves harder. Not that I like or agree with dictorship.

Thats one of the reasons even Russian dancer are gr8....But in the end they get paid less and get thrown of due 2 injury without any compensation...Sad...

Japan....actually funds for Japanese dancer to study abroad, they r wicked tho.Wait till they emerge.

Cubans will still be my favourites, style

  • Primitive? Just look at how may amazing dancers the Vaganova and Bolshoi Academies have produced. Some of the world's FINEST dancers are Russian-trained. I have only ever done the Russian technique but I have NEVER sustained any injuries before.

Even the Cuban technique taught by Alicia Alonso was influenced by the Bolshoi technique!

  • Viengsay appears in the following video clip /watch?v=iSRmc2OKOiU by Cuban band Buena Fe

  • I think her arms and movement are exquisite!!

  • Viengsay is currently the best ballet dancer in Cuba and one of the bests in the international arena. Any company will be fortunate to have her as principal dancer. She has character and coloratura, technical bravura, impressing equilibrium and total domain of the pirouettes. Who cares if she is not undernourished or over-skinny when she can transmit so many profound emotions. Look at the Degas portraits of the Palais-Garnier ballerinas, she has the anatomy of the French ballerina of XIXeme .

  • hermoso,beatiful!!!

    Abel

  • que belleza!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • beatiful

  • This is a very strong performance. Yes, she is a powerful dancer and likes to show her technique. This performance was sublime, very inspired. She did not forgot for a minute that she was a dying swan, her port-des-bras were beautiful, her interpretation impeccable and yet very contemporaneous. I see ballet and the best ballet dancers regularly at the metropolitan, I know what I am saying. Her interpretation was spectacular, if you cannot see that then you do not know ballet, that's it.

  • hey now wait a minute... everyones entitled to their own opinion and actually abt dancers are not the best, the russians are way better watch the technique

  • no tiene brazos, tiene alas... hermosos!

  • betther than natalia makarova and betther than ulanova. the performance of viengsay valdez it´s too similar plisteskaya's performance. and that it´s good because she is a young girl and she is looking for the best school. looking at the plisteskaya she study. the performance of makarova is the worst. their hands are like a bird of ill omen not swan...

  • you know what, her arms are actually pretty good here. its kind of pointless to compare a 21st century dying swan to the early 20th century dying swans, theres no way that similar styles would be produced. maybe we can compare the 60s and 70s generation with now but def not earlier...i dont think. i wont comment on her ballet technique in this, (as it is always controversial) but i think her use of arms are VERY VERY strong and quality here. she's been doing lots of research i can tell!

  • character and drama first. then maybe some technque but come on

  • oh i cant even watch the whole thing.

good dancer but has no clue about the role or charachter. sad

  • look for makarova!that`s dying swan!this is very bad...

  • i agree!!!!!everybody`s looking only for tehnique.that`s a shame.nobody`s really dancing nowdays.i hate that!!!

  • There is too much technique nowadays. Look at Pavlova and Koralli they are more fluent and soft, they seem to feel the music, whereas nowadays dancer are too occupied with their technique. It is a pity.

  • This is awful. This girl needs coaching badly... or at least information and understanding of the meaning of style.

  • This is indeed a "Mayaesque" adaptation. The soviet style of the piece. It would do V well to go back to the true original choreography of Fokine and watch the great ALICIA MARKOVA,interpret what Fokine wanted...especially the end as Markova her right hand resting on her foot drops it to the side upon death.

  • Correct QbenDanny1- Fokine taught it to Markova when he asked her to dance it. I've seen the Jacob's Pillow performance. It is definititive.

  • I'm a great admirer of Valdes' work, I've comment her beautiful line and amazine technique in other videos, but I didn't like this white swan. As a black swan, doing Alicia's coreography, she is perfect; but as a white swan I felt the lack of emotion and desperation requiered by this role. But I must say that her hands are very beautiful and soft.

  • This is a copy from plisteskaya's performance...i've seen her many times. I believe viengsay should be more original anda also more soft!! she's technically good but she's not representing the softness of this piece, and that's the most important part.

  • Did you see Vi's Swan Lake 2dn act? that is what i call perfection, even if you only look at her hands, I haven't seen many performances of Odile like that, hers is magnific, fascinating. The video is here. Her second act is better that many other primas. My respect for her work.

  • Dramatica...

  • she needs to see the best Dying Swans from the great ballerinas, Plistskaya, Ulanova, Pavlova she seems very much alive, she lacks elegance in her movements

  • I do not agree, she is very elegant and i seen all three ballerinas you mentioned.

  • she is a perfectionist dancer, and one of the greater of her generation, I love her, but i think a better coreography will expose her more to the original line and suffering of a dying swan. It has to be a secuence of clean poses that stay on your mind like a slide show, hands away from the tutu, better angles of views. Each pose should be like a photo.

  • I agree in some of the issues that you mentioned and I believe her interpretationis very polished but to be frank Maya's interpretation of this piece is quite exceptional but she never transmit the suffering of the death. Is technical but not as interpretative as Ullanova and Pavlova of course
