But if you dont overdraw on the cards or use them within the guidelines dont you then have no charges... I heard in Iceland they have no charges but sometimes your money goes missing.... but no charges so that part is good .
from World Socialist Website: far from being a “grassroots” movement, GetUp is the offspring of sections of the corporate and political establishment. Its list of directors includes GetUp! founders David Madden and Jeremy Heimans. Madden, a former Australian Army officer has acted as a consultant to the World Bank and United Nations. Heimans previously worked for the strategic consulting firm McKinsey & Company and has consulted for the UN, OECD and ILO.
Today I checked my Netbank for my little loan. Sure, it's a Variable Rate loan, but I haven't even been told. It was changed ten days ago... nothing. If I wasn't looking around, poking my nose into my affairs (rather than trusting the bank to adjust my minimum repayments accordingly) - I could have ended up paying an extra $2000, plus fees for not paying my loan off in time.
I was already planning on paying off extra. I'm just lucky I caught this earlier and not later.
Lobby group GetUp! has defended having received $1.1 million from a union despite its continuing campaign against donations from such bodies.
GetUp! received the sum from the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union just before the 2010 federal election, according to details released by the group this week.
You can blame the banks, but the reality is Australia is in the middle of a HUGE property bubble that the Global financial crisis did not pop. Many people in Australia are under massive debt and a 2% rise is enough to push them over. We have people paying 60% of the salary on mortgages. But guess what with our overheated economy rates will hit 9% in 2011 without a doubt. Sell now, rent until the bubble pops and the investors (who are buying 55%+ of the properties) get out.
This is the dumbest thing ever...read your contracts people! It is not that difficult! Banks declare all of your fees and interest rates are the banks decision it comes with a free market get over it. If you don't like it DONT USE IT! I swear Australian's are dumbing down...every time I see a Green/GetUp ad I loose IQ points....
@hungrychinp LOL - you've completely missed the point. The point is not that people aren't reading their contracts. We all know under what circumstances we will get charged fees by the bank. THE POINT is that whether or not the banks should or are allowed to actually charge those fees in the first place.
How many notices do you get before you are charged interest on your credit card, and if you can't manage or master a credit card then you deserve to be charged fee's. Seriously it's not rocket science. If you don't pay by this date you get charged. Stop complaining about everything and own up to your own mistakes, and if you can't afford to pay for purchases on your credit card don't buy them.
@montenegrox74656 In an ideal world your logic would be sound. But it's not that black and white. People can get caught short of money and end up paying for things like food on credit.
@bigchoonage they are making 5 billion+ PROFIT (not revenue!! Profit) out of normal working families struggling to pay their mortgages.....their service are not worth this much.
this is immoral, and although i am not affected by them, i do feel sympathy for those who are.
@mzrealm ...errr genius, it's actually a very good advertisement, beacsue the target market actually recognises it, and it's not just an imitation of ANZ.
JAB = refrence to NAB
the blue colour and lines across the text is from ANZ (plus the actuial ad)
and the "Bank" alludes to commonwealth bank...although i don't see the westpac refrence in the logo. =/
Says someone called @MrTonyAbbott who quotes my comments from irrelevant posts... Thanks for adding some creepiness (and inspiring me to change my youtube settings).
What can I say, I had a chuckle at the ANZ ad despite the fact that I dislike the big banks, but to me this one just rips off the original humour without getting its new point across very well. Maybe I'm just a dumb Neighbours-lover, but I assumed the point of advertising on TV was to reach a larger audience?
Judging by the comments below, there are some seriously stupid people out there who deserve to be gouged by the banks. If you can't tell that this ad is a parody, then there's no hope for you.
@BagCollector Those "seriously stupid people" are the banks loyal customers or they could be part of the PR firm thats been hired to obfuscate the message that banks are getting away with robbery.
This casts the average bank worker in a bad light. I would have expected more from Get-Up than to hit the people who cop enough abuse from customers daily.
If you have an issue with fees and rates, raise your concern by writing to the bank's head office so they see how many people are not happy-rather thantake it out on bank workers.
@paulieferrari I think they are portraying the worker as the manager of the bank. It's not directed to the worker, the worker is merely a symbol for the banking giant.

The tell tale signs of banks to avoid:
Never use a Bank ...
1. which has so many commercials on TV or Radio
2. that sponsors every major national sporting event, (state and local team sponsorship is ok)
3. with celebrity endorsements
4. that has used the same style of ads of radio or TV ads in over a decade.
5. that has a high-rise HQ in a major capital city CBD
6. that is constantly featured on ACA or TT
7. that has half its newspaper or billboard ad covered in fineprint
Got any more?
