  • Why does Alagna sing the same notes than Mimi on "Amor Amor" ??? That's not what Puccini wrotes.

  • @NoirOrchestre

Why because he's a tenor! And we'll take as many high C's as its humanly possible! hahahaha, I think its tradition to take the last one up, the first one is usually done on the F.

  • @SageFlores Again, that's not what Puccini wanted. I think he knew that tenors could reach the high C, but if he didn't write it that way he must had a reason.

  • @NoirOrchestre

You know the Cadenza at the end of La Donna e Mobile? The one that everybody loves and would be a crime not to do? It's not written in, it's a display of good singing and people love it, such are traditions

  • @SageFlores You can't make a rule of an exception, or else where are you going to stop ? Why respecting anything the composer wrote ? I'm sorry but just can't understand how anyone could disagree with this. And anyway, the high C we're talking about sounds awfull here, even sung by Alagna or Pavarotti.

  • Lovely scene for a lovely couple! What else?

  • This is the most beautiful song Puccini ever wrote. Every time I hear it my whole body tingles.

  • perfect.

  • saw them live in this in L.A. and it was beyond beautiful

  • colora 40 Ican`t sleep what is bette, sitt down and lissten La Bohem. That most beautifull duet " o Soave faniculla. Time is now 04.27.Maybe a little while Lammermoor, and then to bed.

  • Splendid ! Bravo Angela, bravo Roberto !

  • The most beautiful duet, and Two of a kind , best voices!!!

  • Romantic Italian style opera

    long high notes

    duet

  • absolutely stunning!!!!

  • Love Angela! Brava!

  • Sono stati bravi insieme

  • Jesus H Christ, so beautiful. The wind is cheesy/wonderfully atmospheric. And Alagna hits that high note at the end. Bravo!

  • burns the soul; like no other; even as a stupid speaking englishman;i weep with emotion

  • nice singing.

But how come the stage setting is so strange? I mean, are Colin and the other 2 supposed to be outside the house and down floor? I think the stage designer is making it like a dungeon =.=

  • @nokia1242000 Marcello and Rodolpho's aparatment is supposed to be an attic apartment, so I guess it makes sense for there to be a floor door, leading down to the lower levels.

  • @SouthPacific005 I think is why the light of the moon beams in to his apartment

  • maginfico, angela es extraoirdinaria

  • Alagna non é in serata!

  • BRAVO ANGELA

  • este muzica aderarata brava angela!

  • Opnamen!!

  • i don't get the casual stroll over to her while sing the first line. or the seeeei mia.

another casual walkoff and "che m'ami di" at forte on the end. you may be married to her RA, but put a show on for the audience.

  • Strepitosa Angela!!! Far far away from her husband...

  • I've been a fan of Gheogiu ever since seeing her and her husband Alagna at the Lyric Opera in Chicago doing the production of Romeo and Juliet which they had created at the Met in the early 1990's. Besided having a great voice and being quite beautiful she is also a fine actress. I've heard many of the legendary sopranos of the past 60 years...all excellent vocal skills, and some good actors too....but only a very few had the looks and physical grace to make their portrails come alive.

  • This performance had it all...quality in both artist...his gestures were superb and alive...Domingo,Pavorotten,Villazowi,etc are not that great with this aria...clear the wax from your ears and listen first, feel the movements throughout the aria...the expressions are all there and vivid the other tenors do no show them...

  • I ADORE their performance! Their acting is at the same time so simple (because Rodolfo and Mimi are simple people) and great!

  • "Singer" must be a very loose term, then.

  • Que mal suena, pobre Alagna

  • Lo ha detto già Puccini .... "NO PER PIETA'"

  • you have it we sing and there are great voices allagnia not one of them but.. great awesome voice not domingo heard him life

    .

  • Weep, weep, sob, sob. So Alagna doesn't have a good a voice as Gigli. He still has a beautiful voice and it shows in this aria which he sings soulfully and his acting is very convincing. Anyone should be able to enjoy it, but if you can't, you can always turn on your recording of Gigli.

  • heard domingo live on this pav is best but wow domingo has the more beautiful voice acting wise let me watch

  • Guys we are talking about music, everything is re;lative , but Giovanni is right, a good singer is making feelings not just high notes, Please add Bonisolli and Corelli to the lis, plus Juan Diego, I am a tenor and I know how complicate is to be a godd one, is not just talenmt , in my opinion the main issue is with profesors, we do not have any more the great old school, Gigli, Bjorling, Caruso, etc, they were not models, but what we have now, Il Divo.., Cura, Villazon, just image and Marketing

  • well maybe il divo is marketing but i think carlos from il divo does have a talent.

  • beautiful .....:) simply.

  • Listen to Di Stefano and Callas or Di Stefano and Tibaldi 1950 or so.

  • I think anyone that can hit that high C is fantastic! But, opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one. (No pun intended.)

  • There are alot of singers that can hit a high C. It is the quality of that note, their phrasing, vocal line/eveness of scale, coloring the voice, interpretation. You have a very limited understand of singing.I would suggest that you listen to singers like Jussi Bjorling, Renata Tebaldi, Rosa Ponselle, even Pavarotti to get a good idea about what great singing is.

  • Giovannifabuloso....you said...even Pavorotti, as if he just about qualifies, Pavorotti was without doubt the finest tenor that has ever lived, we will never live to see his equal, he could hit any note effortlessly, and with such quality.

  • I am a big fan of Pavarotti. He was in afct a family friend. I would say that he is the greatest of our time. Let's not forget about Caruso, Gigli, Schpa, Bjorling and DiStefano. Pava rotti would have said this himself. Remember it is not just a matter of hitting high notes. It is the quality of singing. How they hit the high notes, phrasing, coloring, seamless scale. Just because you can hit high note does not mean one is a great singer. Pavarotti was

  • remember that there is also acting involved. therefore, and not only for his acting expression, I have to add Mario del Monaco to the list of great ones. These are not racing cars to compare which one is the best, but more a matter of taste.

  • Wow, that's brushing in an overly broad stroke indeed. Every single generation say that 'great singing no longer exist'... I guess the world is ending now, too, ay?

Here's a pearl of wisdom: enjoy the good ones today while they're still active. It's only self-serving to diss them now and then put them on the pedestal once they've retired. The active singers are the ones that can really benefit from the cheers, not the ones who aren't singing anymore!

  • Amen to that!

  • Hmmm..And Rossini himself was convinced that great singing died in the early 19th Century, yet all those great singers you named were born after that. Why would any of today's singers have to compete with the ghosts of yesterday anyhow? With you way of thinking... why do you even listen to any living singer anymore? Just to dwell in disappointment? Would even Gigli or Bjorling please you if they're still alive and singing today?

I hope today's singers don't take what we say seriously!

  • I agree that Alagna isn't that good, but just listening to old recordings of dead singers just makes you close-minded, and you have to be open to new singers, because, if you accept only Bjorling or Gigli, then, you just miss the beauty of a voice that may be as good or better than Bjorling or Gigli. Also, actually going to see the opera is much better than just listening to a recording.

  • Couldn't agree with you more Giovanni! Your comments are dead-on.

  • I bet you are a shit singer!

  • Both great artist's in there own right but what makes this a great video is you can see how comfortable they are with each other you can sense the love they have for each other.

How can you not love Angela.

  • I like the video with Alagna and Vaduva much better.

BRAVO !!!!

  • I wish more tenors would take the e note at the end of this duet rather than screaming the high c with the soprano. Puccini wrote it this way for a reason.

  • their recording on iTunes is my favorite recording of this piece, but in this recording Alagna just glisses too much... it's distracting. Disappointing in the vocal area, but very captivating and real in the acting, bravo.

  • Aren't they just beautiful together? >sigh<

  • If only the orchestra sounded better. The brass section (trombones?) totally ruined the climax, blasting a really ugly sound. Yuck...

  • Non sapevo...Lui non è male come attore..

  • Excellent duet!

Gheorghiu and Alagna are amazing together. And on top of all that, they're married in real life!!!

  • i got chills

  • Precioso!!! Gracias, Alice ^^

  • Great!!!!

  • my god, they're adorable.
