Being a pretty massive fan of both MV and KC I definitely do not see any similarity with cotopaxi and ANY KC song. I think people are imagining the similarities or rather looking for reasons to hate their guts even more than people seem to already do. I for one think they are a great and massively underrated band or rather Omar and Cedric are underated. Hopefully in time people will recognise their brilliance and if not I will still be enjoying them
it wasn't a dig at them, rather a commendation of King Crimson! just thought that people viewing this might be interested in the fact that this type of music was being played 40 years ago
Most Volta fans are well familiar with KC -- only one of many influences that TMV channels regularly. To categorize them as a Crimson knock-off is an injustice to both bands. Regardless, KC didn't perform with half as much energy, charisma or mystique as TMV. And KC didn't exactly trademark the chromatic/pentatonic riff in an odd time signature, either.
No... the guy essentially said they're ripping off King Crimson. I'm saying they're not entirely. That's exactly what "King Crimson were doing this 40 years ago" means. I'm not insulting anyone, I'm respectfully disagreeing. You're the one reading hostility into it.
grandangodang: since your name isn't maynardmooose and that isn't your comment he replied to, why are defending and bring hostility into a conversation between two intelligent individuals; which, by the way, you aren't ether of?
lmao why do you even care about what i'm saying to another joe? i was dry intiially, but there is absolutely nothing you can call "hostile" in that comment string.
i'm guessing the only reason you're talking shit is because it's on youtube. well i don't dig that, so prattle all you want.
The song 'Goliath' is a boorish take on '20th Cent. Schizoid Man', with none of the jazz and 8mins of a couple riffs, and forgettable lyrics. "Bands should know how to be influenced, and not directly copying others in xerox copies." --And they shouldn't be so obviously 'under' an influence that it people who 'know what you're talking about' (if music is a 'conversation' as they say) . . . charges of 'cryptomnesia' oughtn't arise in a fully new, 'progressive', creative work. They do for TMV now
Sounds like the song is falling apart after that point... and Cedric is so out of time 2:34 onwards... Don't get me wrong, I'm usually in awe of Cedric's vocal skills. Maybe this was just a warm-up gig now that they're back on tour.
What do you mean? @ 2:14 Cedric doesn't sing the last "Don't stop dragging the lake" Probably so he can save his breath for the next line. He does it a lot. Also, he is not out of time at all. And I'm not sucking their wang here, go ahead and count the beats, you'll see. Also, it sounds like its falling apart because it was recorded with a camera mic. The performance is great, though...
He certainly sings his part out of time by what he has defined as the song on the recording. I never said that what he was singing was musically incorrect.
Surely its only foolish to call me so based upon something completely unrelated to my comment.
My apologies good sir if I have offended your sensibilities. When i say fool, it is usually not meant in any derogatory sense unless i use it as in' "you are a fool." In the context it was used, I used it merely as a pronoun in place of your name, which I do not know. A thousand pardons, oh sensitive one.
Honestly probably the most solid he's sounded since 2006.

you read hostility into "King Crimson etc" when there isn't
it is a perfectly neutral statement said so by the dude himself

fine, ill be the hostile one.

so in other words, shut your fucking mouth.
hostility now over.
