Stealth team count as being in cover when being charged; they should've attacked first. Other than that, it seemed like an ok game. The Tau player spread his forces thin, cooped up most of the units as much as possible and blatantly exposed a lot of his forces. He did get a bit of pretty bad luck on that Turn 3, but it seems that he could've been more aggressive on Turn 1 and 2.
@WritingFighter Thanks for that analysis of the game! This was one of Norau's first games of 40k, whereas I've played for years. Nowadays he wins over me more often than not with both his Tau Empire and Space Wolf armies.
When the Guardians attacked you should have struck first as in page 27 of the Tau codex, under Stealth Field Generator. It says any models with a stealth Generator count as being in Cover when assaulted. Which means the guardians would have had Initiative 1 rather than 5 and going first. try to remember these rules! They might save your ass one day other than that good game.
XD @2:03 Fuckin' sick luck. Ethereals must have been watching over that one.
Eldar are totally op though imo. They can put a starcannon (one of the best weapons in the game) on pretty much anything...god I hate starcannons.
I don't really get why Eldar are even in the game and fighting in the first place...they're way more advanced than any other race, and they're just like...the best, pretty much, at everything. Why are they even in the game if no one else has a fighting chance?
@Spjungen how in the hell is a starcannon one of the best weapons in the game!? S6 AP2, yay, tau can put that on mobile crisis suits units, the starcannon has no place in the army, shurken cannons, bright lances, eldar missiles are all far better and have more uses

@JetpackNinjaDinosaur well tank shocking a unit with high moral and weapons with strength of 9 is quite dumb but besides that i cant say whether it was his bad gameplay... but that move was really dumb (or desperate) xD
how many points waz your army? i am tryin to get some tau with mine but right now i have 23 tatu fire warriors. but would like to get a commander ofcourse. 6 steath suits and a hammerhead. wht else would i need?
@REAPER3382 devilfish, kroot, lots of crisis battlesuits, and maybe a broadside or two. you should probably get pathfinders too because markerlights really help alot.
Even though the fluff (backstory) tells us that Saim-Hann often use their jetbikes and grav tanks when fighting battles, this is not always the case. They have their share of Aspect Warriors, Support Weapon Platforms and Guardians on foot too.
I thought I'd start Ulthwé. Ofcourse I need Storm Guardians but I have no chance of getting a box of them. Any conversion ideas, like, how to make 'em from the regular Guardian box?
The Storm Guardians in this video were converted from the regular Guardian box.
I cut the magazine and middle section off the Shuriken Catapults, and glued them back together = Instant Shuriken pistols. I had some chainswords, swords and knives from previous projects, which worked pretty well.
You should pick the army that has the models you like more. In my experience, that should always be the most important factor when deciding on a new army.
also eldar are a bit harder to paint then other armies tau are the funnest to paint IMO because you have the smooth Armour and then you have the leather like stuff, eldar are fun to paint but there a bit harder also tau are a more range oriented and eldar are more in the middle but its all up to you =D
I agree, eldar are pretty hard. Their armour for the most part is more cloth like that actual armour being all skin tight, so high lighting is extremely difficult.
If you play Tau, you can use the Positional Relay, and simply reserve everything. He deep strikes his stuff in on a mostly empty board, and your guys are free to walk in from the table edge and shoot everything to pieces.
Either go completely mobile (no stationary units, everything can move fast in some way i.e. all firewarriors in devilfish) or keep everything is reserve and try and go second so his stuff comes in before your stuff.
I've been playing Tau for about a year - I am not impressed with the Tau player's level of skill. Points were surrendered easily. Tank-Shocking a Seer Council....yeah..
If you check out my blog (see the video description), you will see that my opponent Norau has made a comment on this. This was his fifth game or so, and his first tank shock ever.
Even being a new player, Norau is actually a more skilled opponent than most of the guys i play.
Sure. No harm no foul if we learn from mistakes. And being from the outside looking in with experience. - this was quite.. painful to watch. :D
The Stealth suits should have attempted to target the Guardians upon arrival. Did he have Broadside suits at this point? There should have been at least 2 on the field.
More Railguns would have been appricated here, definately.
The Stealth Suits did shoot at the Guardians, but they claimed a cover save (barely). They survived relatively unscathed after some lucky cover save rolling.
No, his Broadsides hadn't yet arrived from Forge World, so there was just a single Railgun on the field.
Note that neither of us went for super-optimized builds in this match, just like we normally do. We firmly believe that interesting armies make for more interesting games.
But seriously, the Necrons have a really hard time in 5th edition of the game. They should be getting a new codex in a year or two, but until then, the more interesting Codex of the two is definitively Tau Empire.
No, a "monat" is a unit consisting of a single Battlesuit.
In the Tau background, a battlesuit team consists of three bonded members. When a member falls in battle, he is not replaced. The "monat" is the sole survivor, and a very experienced battlesuit pilot.
My bad. Forgive me, as I'm not a tau player, i do know that they shoot S**t up. I've been on the recieving end many a time, but as I play necrons they mostly just get back up.
You have to roll one flamers wondings after the other. This will lead to a little less woundings by the second flamer and the enemy player even can interact by removing the right guys, so the second flamer has less under the template.
You can check this in the rulebook under multiple flamer weapons (p.29 - in my german book at least).
I just thought I had to mention it, because flamers are a little imba if used this way shown here.
No it's 5th, I swear man! One template after another, check it up.
Play just like you like it most! One guy just wanted to own me like that, and we read it in the rulebook lately, so I thought I should share for the sake of your enemys ;)
Haha, then I guess the translation in the German book is a little off.
I'll just quote from the English Warhammer 40k 5th edition rulebook, page 29:
If a unit is firing more than one template weapon, resolve each shot, as described above, determining and recording how many hits are scored by each template.
Note that it says *hits*, not wounds. All hits from all shooting from the unit currently firing are resolved before any to-wound rolls are made.
Nice battle report bud 8)

Actually, they DO work as we played it.
The way you describe it is the way Template weapons worked in 4th edition. However, this is 5th, and Template weapons are pure awesomess!
1: Place all templates
2: Count hits
3: Roll for wounds
4: Roll any armour saves
5: Roll for morale if necessary
6: Win!
