These girls are real rebels if you ask me. In the west nobody gives two flying fucks if you are in a band. In China, it's a whole different matter. I mean, it's certainly not as bad as it used to be but all the fascinating music is boiling under the autocratic rule of China. As soon as the lid is blown our minds will be blown as well. Looking forward to my trip to Shanghai in September =)

Rock music is supposed to be the music of the masses and the working class. In China it seems to be the scene of privileged middle class youth.
It's only new and fresh from a Chinese perspective. But in the West the sounds of this Chinese 'new wave' are just imitating what we've all heard a million times.

But I was pointing out that when R n' R first became popular, it was limited/catered to the white middle class. Yes, R n' R has it's roots in Black music: Blues, Rhythm & Blues. But due to the racism at the time, black musicians could not make R n' R popular. Therefore, the industry had white performers play rock music to sell.

Punk music on the hand came out 20 odd years after Rock n' Roll and more than 10 year after Rock n' Roll was dead. Using Punk as an example, I figure you to be a teenager or someone very young. But no harm, no foul.

@zakuzen I think the point I was trying to make was that a very small percentage of Chinese people seem to support Chinese bands, and they only have an audience in the major cities. I'm not saying only certain groups of people are allowed to listen to certain genres. A lot of the most powerful music throughout the history of rock became powerful because it managed to represent a generation, and young people associated themselves with the sound. In China there is only a small minority.

um yeah i do and it is not necesarrily harder for women. if i recal a lot of obstacles that are created by people who think it is harder cuz o there black or o well im mexican or o im a girl are usaully creted in there own heads cuz they cant grasp the concept that its not that its haareder for them its just diffrent and they dont like diffrent and in my opinion if they dont want to do somthing diffrent by by doing watr they wat fuckem
