Why would you? To end up so close to the opponent that you have absolutely no chance to kick him another time?
In combat, you may want to always return to the starting position after a punch or a kick. It gives you time to react to the opponent's attacks, and gives you the chance to attack him/her again
Hopefully if you hit him hard you would advance and he would be retreating, reeling, or pushed back, and you would be following up with punches, not another kick. Throwing kick, kick, kick in a real fight is bad policy.
these videos are great!!!

speed
if opponent counters by jumping back at the moment you kick, his kick wil land
if you put your leg back where it was you'll be faster and give him fewer options

@raydeltaedge Also, it's important to to re-chamber the leg fast, to avoid been grappled by the attacker.
