@betenoireindustries its a function of expansion and compression. you heat the top half of a bottle then cool it rapidly, the glass will suddenly be under pressure and crack. the top will simply break off. so the bigger difference in temperature you achieve between hot and cold, the more likely it'll work.

You wouldn't believe how well a power tile saw works to saw bottles in half, I used a 12" wet saw and it would just saw through bottles like they were lunch meat, perfectly smooth edges that I would run over my tongue. If you know someone with a tile saw with a gliding table ask them. Like butta.

You don't need to use a flame to get a cut. You just need to lightly score the bottle and pour some scalding hot water over it and then run some cold water over it. Glas is very sensitive to temperature changes and will crack more precisely when the temperature change is less intense. I have seen cuts made so precise with this method that the peices where held back together and the bottle filled with water and it did not leak through the crack.
