A smokin' band that never got their proper due. Caught their act in Memphis in '70 or '71 when they opened for Steppenwolf. After Pie's incendiary set, I'm sure that the Wolf wanted out the back door. Every headliners nightmare!
@BLUESRIFF50 You rite ...I saw them at Hyde Park (July 71) they opened for the Funk (debut gig in UK) !!! they stole the show, Grand Funk just sounded like a folk group after the thundering set of the Pie ....As far as I'm concerned....I still got my ears bleeding since then :-) ......... lol
I remember hearing, "I Don't Need No Doctor" as a teenager on I think it was WPGC radio in DC in the early 70's. Needless to say I ran and broke the door down to get the live double album "Rockin' The Fillmore". It was without question one of the greatest rock and roll live performances of all time...bar none....I also forgot how incredible, "Are You Ready" sounded. V In DC
I caught Humble Pie live some time before this version was recorded at the Fillmore. I wish that version had been the concert version released on an album---no exaggerated vocal histrionics to open, just Steve Marriott hollering "I'm ready!" and the band kicking into it full tilt. Marriott was also way more in the pocket on the guitar harmonies with Peter Frampton that night, he was really feeding Frampton some sharp lines there . . .
