and one more thing cause i just read all the comments.. aliquipas legendary football coach is STILL there today. and still producing NFL players from a town that is completely broken and filled with heroin/drugs. football/basketball is the only way to get out of there.
born and raised in johnstown, the town this movie was shot in, and played my high school ball for the Bishop McCort Crimson Crushers at The Point Stadium which is the stadium used in this movie!
This movie was obviously the inspiration behind the tv show "Coach"...they obviously liked Craig T. Nelsons portrayal of a football coach, and that's where they got the idea. But don't forget...this motha fucka fought ghosts in Poltergeist too. He's a badass.
Little known fact....this was a Lucille Ball Production, but Lucy was a bit put off by the nudity in the film and had her name taken off the film but her Husand at the time Gary Morton was listed as Producer.
I live in Johnstown also...and I beg to differ, Ampipe's uniforms were of Ferndale HS and Wlanut Heights were of Westmont Hilltop. I attend Ferndale...but this movie is probably our school's (and our entire town's for that matter) only claim to fame.
johnstown pa. its on the back of some of the vhs copies. and yes. this soundtrack should come out on cd. i would give my left nut for it. the last stand is a baddass song.
Yes, someone post the bus ride to Walnut Heights. I've been trying to find that song as well. The problem is only an album was made and it never went to DVD and I can't find the song or the artist on the internet at all.
The Song is called "The Last Stand". It was written by Doug Kahan. Doug was in a pop/rock group from Detroit in the early '80's called "Flash/Kahan" They released one album. They had one 'local' hit called "one At A Time"...also a great psyche up tune. I have it and "the Last Stand" on .mp3. E-mail me and I could send.
Did you rip this from the DVD? If you did, could you rip the bus ride to Walnut Heights scene? "The Last Stand" is one of the coolest psyche up songs ever. A girl I dated in 1985 got me the LP for my birthday and I made a 90min cassette of that song for my football bus rides.
This is a very good movie. It was different from many teen movies in the 80's because it was not shot in Los Angeles. It took place in a very middle of the road place where nothing cutting edge was really happening. I think of Poltergeist whenever I see Craig T Nelson in this film. Tom Cruise gives his 2nd best performance here his best being Rain Man but he really pulls it off here. The scene where Craig T Nelson is at the pep rally he is wearing the same sweater he wore in Poltergiest.
i live in the city this movie was shot in johnstown,pa and the only way out is football i go to high school at bmhs which produced jack ham, pete duranko, artrell hawkins and about 10 other lesser known ppl who played in the nfl and we also have three palyers marc domonkos(akron),jose cruz(akron),and wayne jones(pitt) playing d-1
..I beg to differ my man, this movie was Hopewell,P.A. I wish I had the proof to show you, but I will look for it, if you can prove me wrong, I would accept that also, but I am 99.9 percent sure Hopewell,P.A.
The majority of the film was actually shot in Johnstown, PA. The football scenes were filmed at Ambridge HS. Thus the name of the school in the movie, Ampipe High.
Just an FYI, it was "based on Aliquippa" and it was filmed entirely in Johnstown, PA.
The opposing coach (Walnut Heights?) in the game was actually Don Yannessa, Aliquippa's coach at the time and the reason the film was made. He received a ton of press because of the turnaround he did at the school and Hollywood came knocking. They tried to film it in Aliquippa, but the town "didn't look small enough"...their words not mine... so they went to the Johnstown area.
..Yes I know now that you are right about this movie. I knew Aliquippa had some part in it. Believe it or not I used to deal craps in Las Vegas and one of the places I worked a lot of locals came there. The retired band leader from Aliquippa lives there and used to come in all the time but I never thought to ask him, always to busy. We clicked cause he knew the band leader from my high school: "New Castle" if you know the area you heard of it. Thanks, Paul A. Cugini
@mrajcalabro i live 5 minutes from Aliquippa in Moon Twp but have a summer place in johnstown at Indian Lake. sooo weird a movie is based and then shot in both places and i have yet to ever see this
Remeber the Titans is a better movie with much deeper meaning and Rudy is a much better movie about a singular person striving for a goal. Varsity Blues is also up there in terms of a coach whos a prick.

Good film and nice starting point for the careers of a very young Tom Cruise and so many more actors/actresses.

So gay...but it's still an 80's movie. When they didnt know what to do, just like 80's videos. Classic.

To think that you would suggest that Remember the Titans, Rudy and Varsity Blues is a better 'Football film' than All The Right Moves is ludacris.
