I was in StreetScape. This clip is from 1984 on The Don Harron Show. The members were Wayne "The Saint" Headley, Colin "Steamboat" Bloudoff (the white guy!), Paul "Ripple" Lewis, Bradley "Breakin' Brad" Rapier (as I was known at the time) and the legendary Boogaloo Sam Solomon who danced with us for a few months in that year. Thanks for posting, an honor to be compared to the pioneering Lockers:)
this is two clips from two different eras......there is no clear winner because poping and breaking didnt exist prevalently in the early 70's......and the clip from street scape is from the mid 80's.....know your culture....im 24 and i know this SMH.......SMH=Shaking My Head for you older cats haha
@TheSdfadfdsf You are the only one that is confused. Its obvious that if this was an actual battle then both groups would have been on the stage at the same time. SMH at you over analyzing a obviously chopped up video.
Street scape Won clearly... the lockers did the same tired moves every time it was their turn. Streetscape did different moves thru out the battle... combining Locking-Poppin-and breakdance. The lockers did the same moves... the white kid kicked ass ...... maybe the lockers needed RERUN on their side ...., who knows
@SamWhitemoon1 Yez that 'locking-poppin' combination iz called Electric boogaloo. Also those 'same trired moves' the Lockers are performing is called Locking. As for the anglo, he was one of only a handfull to be accepted into american-African FunK culture durnin' the 80's. Rerun was on there team once but only in "What's Happening".
@FunkMasterRio you need to check your facts. Electric boogaloo is most definitely not a combination of locking and popping, its a combination of Popping (Pops/hits that course through you like a shock-electric) and boogaloo. There is some electric boogaloo but this video has a lot more STRUTTING than EB style. As for rerun, he was definitely a member of the lockers except he was known as Mr. Penguin, not re-run, when he wasnt on Whats happening
@JBspInZ lol iz that right, i'm sar....i must of been half asleep. Or typin' with one hand and and gettin' down with the rest. I most def know all funkay fact it's just I'm not the smoothest with the computer stuff. Tho the same can't be said about my locking skillz.
The Lockers won this one. They were more fluid in their routines and they appeared to be naturals. These guys were okay but they could not match the Lockers.
sorry people that isnt the electric boogaloos, if it is where in the heck am I? this is the real popin pete, that a group out of calgary canada called STREETSCAPE that boogaloo sam went and did shows with.
no actually the east coast version of this is called step or gq. from the magazine g.q. (gee cue) steppin. we used to gq on the east coast in 72 to 76-79 on dance floors. it was a little more sophisticated than the cali style but cali influenced it. it is also the foot work for the funky chicken and roller skate disco boogie. which was also big on the east coast back in philly ny nj bmore and other places.
kick walk, scuba, which-way, kick , funky gutair, wrist rolls, points, half splits, stop n go, pimp walk, pose, knee drops, and rocksteay. these are straight lockin moves. theirs more i forget some of the moves name.
@23furtado I agree west coast did lockin poppin and electric Boogaloo in the 70s before hip hop New York in the late 70s early 80s adopted their moves.
@JL0vely white guy....please know the history of the two dances......have fun......foooooo.....also these two dancing crews CAME FROM LOS ANGELES,WHY B4 BREAKING CAME OUT...THE EAST COAST WAS INSPIRED BY THE WILD WILD west coast......
@JL0vely please kid, make me sit down...i actually go to kingking in hollywood, california and represent my shit.....please....know youre sit before you post.....
@andyastro123 know what shit? wtf you talking about you dork? all i asked was what the ethnicity of one of the dancers was....you talking about know my history of east coast west coast dancing...take yo old ass to the senior home and sit all the way down!
@JL0vely OLD....LOL...YOURE FUNNY BECAUSE I'M 31 YEARS OLD AND ABLE TO KICK YOUR SILLY ASS...LOL....PLEASE COME DOWN TO SOUTH LOS ANGELES AND ACT BRAVE THAN...AND SEE WHAT HAPPENDS TO YOUR DUMB ASS.......LOL.....DORK....
