  • The documentary isn't being produced by me--They just interviewed me, since I've known him for more than 30 years and he considers me his biographer, due to the articles I've written about him. The doc is being made by award winning film maker, Josh Gilbert, who is best known for "A.k.a, Tommy Chong," about half of the Cheech and Chong comedy duo. As I write this, The Chedwicks and Josh are back in Pittsburgh filming segments for the new documentary. Please--Contribute what you can!

  • Just a note to let everyone know that as of this writing, there is a documentary in production about the life of this radio pioneer. If you would like to contribute to the production costs--anything you can afford--we'd be most grateful. Check out the trailer and get all the details. You can even get Associate Producer and Co-Producer credits in the film. For whatever reason, I can't post the link, so do a search--here on You Tube--for "Bringing Porky Home."

  • Ed... good luck with the project. With all the video clips out there with Porky in them, you should have a fun time putting together this video.

  • I grew up in Swissvale, Pa...and just across the Monongahela River, at the end of the High Level Bridge was radio Station WHOD...where Porky belted out Rock and Roll to all us Teenagers in the early 50s and 60s....when all of the other local network stations refused to play Rock and Roll.....Wow, what a great era to live in, and I am glad I was part of it........

  • I grew up in Swissvale, Pa.....Just across the High Level Bridge to Homestead was a small radio station ..WHOD...I, like all the other teenagers, where Porky belted out Rock and Roll in the early 50s, when all the local network stations refused to play Rock and Roll.....Wow..what an era to live in, and I am glad I was part of it.......Long Live 50s and 60s Rock and Roll.........Go Porky...God Bless you.

  • Porky, the guy who played music that no one else would play. Listened to WAMO, first AM then later FM. Went to his hops, Teenland in Bridgeville. Still remember him as being 'the man' in Pittsburgh. Today, (2010) he's still remember by many. I have a PORKY music collection that I play to this day, ........Rocket 88, Rocket 69, Bo Diddley, Skyliners, etc etc etc, ....glad I experienced him.

  • I believe Porky used the song "Last Night" by the Mar-Keys as his theme song on many of his programs

  • Wasn't "Last Night" by the Mar-Keys Porky's theme song? I just listened to it elsewhere on YouTube and it sure sounded familiar.

  • I'm not sure, but I think you may be correct. If I only knew how to get in touch with Porky these days to find out for sure.

  • @thelazycomic You can locate PORKY by emailing a guy named Ed Weigle who does voice work for a company in Venice,Fla I believe Bob Sommers productions or just click in the name Ed Weigle and follow the Links.

  • @thelazycomic Click on the name ED WEIGLE and follow the links,,he'll know where Porky is. Tell him Sid Grubbs TheMojoMan told you.

  • @fillby NO NO NO Porky's theme song was by RAY PRYSOCK. Last Night by THE MARKEYS came way after Porky started.

  • I remember listening to all the great tunes Porky would play on WAMO. What a character! The Bossman is the only DJ in Pittsburgh who could 'put a sonic boom in your room'

  • A sonic boom in your room? Never heard that one, but I like it. Porky is such a great guy. I've met him a couple of times. You couldn't meet a nicer, more humble man. He never, ever let his fame go to his head, as many other local Pittsburgh DJ's did back in the day.

  • I remember Porky on WAMO and seeing him at the dances at places like K of C in Sharpsburg. One of the best personalities in those days!

  • I've met Porky a few times. He is so down to earth, you can't help but like him. One of the best persons I've had the pleasure of meeting.

  • Thank You !

  • I remember Porky in the hallway during class changes @ Wilkinsburgh Jr High. I waved, shouted 'Hi, Porky' & NOBODY in the hall knew him except me! My then girlfriend - Linda Wentzel - bought Dusty Discs Vol 1 LP for me for Xmas. When working for the BBC & broadcast to 1/2 million people on radio, I'd lift a LP track intro Porky. GREAT! If you're too young, 'cruising', as in the movies 'Hot Wax' & Wolfman Jack, that's the way it was. Hope this isn't TMI!

  • I can't believe this. My sister and I grew up on Porky's music. What great sounds, what great times we had. Anyone out there remember the Saturday night dances at Stockdale Fire Hall??

  • I don't remember them, but let's see if somebody else out there does.

  • Yeah, I just found that out this week. They are trying to sell their place in Florida. Good luck to Porky & Jeanne with selling the place in Florida. I know the economy is really in the toilet right now, so seriously, I do hope the best for them in the sell.

  • Porky is in Pittsburgh Yeah!!

  • Double WAMO!!!

  • In this day and time you'd think most folks have computers, even us old farts who remember WAMO radio. I don't understand either why not more comments show up here.

  • What ever Pork is doing now....we that grew up with him in the burg....have those memories....In my mind...he IS and always will be the BOSS MAN. Now...BLOW YOUR HORN

  • Ya know, I'm surprised more folks don't leave comments on here for Porky. I'm sure he'd love to read them.

  • I can remember when Porky worked at WHOD, just across the High Level Bridge on the Homestead side. It was a small independent station, but all of us Teenagers, (at that time) would rather listen to "Aint That a Shame", by Fats Domino, than the local stations playing the same song by Pat Boone.....

  • Yep... Porky played the "cool" sides of the tunes... not the "cover" versions. He helped to mold what would be coming down the pike in future.

  • I listened to Porky when he shared the WAMO airwaves with Sir Walter Raleigh, Hal Brown and other terrific black DJ"s. He had several intro songs for his show. "Porky Porky, he's the bossman, he's the Daddio of the radio, he'll move you and he'll groove you. He's the Bossman Porky, Porky! The other intro was a guy on congas with someone whistling a blues/african melody. That was my favorite. Porky, thanks to you and all the guys at WAMO for opening this white boys mind to some great music.

  • I remember that whistling intro but I have no idea who it was.

  • The Boss Man is moving to FLA...but his memory will ALWAYS linger in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Thanks for all those year Pork.

  • I wonder if Porky is really enjoying Florida? Let's face facts, Porky is Pittsburgh... and Pittsburgh is Porky. I hope he's having a great time in the Sunshine State. (I lived there for 2 years... HATED IT).
