Maori were probably the best fighters to have existed. Taller, stronger and faster than any other race that exist.
In real life a fight can go either way.
Cannibalism wasn't a common practice for either cultures. It was just something that occasionally happened in certain tribes.

@BaddahChris Its not originally Marquesas, but Hawaiians did stop there before moving eastward. The Maori themselves didn't go to Marquesas, but they went through Papua New Guinea.
The original bloodline for both is somewhere in Asia, said to be China. Maori and Hawaiians share a similar origin story of a 6,000 year old war and people with up turned eyes.
Maori are closest related to Tahitians and Niueans. Hawaiians are closest related to Samoans and Tongans.

Every POLY must know their own root and stick to it because is what makes each and every tribes of Polynesia unique!!=] The Haka originally came from the Maori's and trust me, no Tongan, Samoan, Fijian, Hawaiian, Tahitian, and Australians can do it better than a Maori can!!
