At the very end of the song, you see Paul Overstreet look over at Paul Davis, and you see this look of appreciation to having been part of this. I think they both knew that they had just nailed.
Many folks may not realize that he also wrote some incredible songs for other performers, a prime example being the Dan Seals country hit "Bop". Dan passed away less than a year after Paul, so I'd like to think the two longtime friends are sittin' around Heaven with a couple guitars singing away eternity and having a blast.
I Love him, I pray I make it to heaven and get to meet him someday. I Thank his family for letting us watch his videos, it seems like they approved something because now I'm able to watch more differant ones, I'm very grateful. I post his music on fb more than anyone elses:) God I Love Paul Davis. He was so beautiful.
I did not he has died, i looked him up on wiki, sad he was among the greats.i was also shocked to learn he was nearly killed in a mugging in nashville in 1986. he lived and contiued to be a presence in the music world, he like all the greats who have passed may have died but there music shall live forever.
i really really love this song and mr paul davis there.. everytime i hear this song it gives me the creeps and goosebumps and i really feel the song.. imagining one man who thought he already moved on but still when he saw her again he realized that he really love her still.. so much.. it makes me cry when im alone listening to it.. looking at my former love's photos.. rest in peace mr Paul Davis.. hope to see you in heaven..soon..
I AM an old hard core head banger a metal head nut, and I loved him I get so emotional every time I hear this sound. I loved his work, he was one PURE artist no gimmick name no flash pure pure Art
Amen to that. Is there anybody out there to write lyrics and music, and sing like this today? I would put him right in there with Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, Jim Croce, Cat Stevens, Harry Chapin etc.. I sure miss good new music.
This is LIVE, folks, and this song was originally released when Davis was 29. In this video, he was 43. Regardless if you like the song or not, one thing holds true, is that his vocal performance is spot on. Music artists need to pay equal attention to their live performance as they do social networking. Often in this day and age, it's the other way around.
@hhession ... the reason this singers sounded great live or recorded is because they were real singers.. not like the ones now days, that instead of being musicians or singers they are just a bunch of lowlife showoffs, nothing more,
Paul Davis - no pretensions - just a great songwriter with a great voice. Can do the keyboards well enough too. Question - has there a BETTER singer/songwriter/keyboard player in my lifetime?
I sang this in Karaoke, but couldn't finish it. I broke down in tears, when I met my lover, there and looked at her. I cried and had to leave. Better to be single sometimes, the pain for some is too much, way to much to stand.
This song and time in my life was extremely important. I remember he came to my relocated town in Fl and my friend requested this song for me.The original album was great. So sorry to hear he moved on.
I felt like I was the only guy that liked this song back when I first heard it on the radio in September 1977. Then again I felt like that back in 1970 when I was open to every style of Music. Not just Rock. Most other guys were just into Hard Rock. I was into everything.
"I realize I was blind." What a line this is. Gee Paul why don't you just take me out back and shoot me? After all with that line you've already broken my heart...
This song is just so beautiful!!! When he is singing it, you can tell he means what he's singing. He must have written this for someone. It still gives me goosebumps to this day! I don't care how old it is. Almost brings tears to my eyes!
It makes me sad for one BIG reason. Because it's about me. I felt this song. I felt the heart ache. There was a girl and I took her love for granted. And then after when it was too late and I looked in her eyes I went crazy. Paul understood.
If you don't love this song, you are a liar. This song makes you love love. It seems like he is rushing a bit in this version though. Why can't we have artists like this these days? Big pimpin, money and hoes, what a bore. Give me something real for Christ's sake, like this.
paul davis. rest in peace son, your work here on earth is done. you gave us this beautiful song. i hope to compose at least one good song before i leave this earth.
I love this song. I was sad to learn via Wiki that Paul Davis died 4-22-2008 of a heart attack at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi. What a loss to the musical world.
What a beautiful song. It's touched my life in a special way. Takes me to a special place during my childhood. I'm 42 now. You were big in the 70's just like the 70's part of me. You're not resting Paul. You've just started in heaven. Thank's for the wonderful memories.
this song spent 40 weeks in billboard hot 100 in 1978 and it peaked # 7.. paul davis died of a heart attack last april of 2008 the day after his 60th birthday! RIP.

I bought 5000 45 rpm singles to keep this records "bullets" and move it from "hit bound" on LA radio station KHJ to become a top 5 hit in Los Angeles. Up until 10 years ago, I still had them in boxes at my mom's house ! ! ! Ahhhh, that good ol' music biz ! ! !
No, over $7,000.00 -plus california state sales tax...singles sold for between $1.10 and $1.69 depending. I we bought them in mostly "mom & pop" record stores so it would look like "real sales" and not phony ones! It worked! Because of some expert advice by Macy Lipman (I bet you never heard of him), we were able to accomlish for 7K or so what would cost other people 25K.! It's a great story because it is true ! !
I was running WB Music at the time and I had financed a management company that managed a few artists...One was supposed to be Paul. We had put together tours, etc. all through the Record label owner - but then we got (as they say in french) screweded ! It is long and complicated but the label owner was dating a recording artist and brought his manager in to manage Paul, and we were out ....Ah the music biz ! You just got to love it..!
No, the artists and their lack of integrity only matches the people for whom, music is only the excuse, and would easily do the same thing in any other business.....!

That has to be one of the most beautiful love songs! Even after all these years it still bring shivers to me. Paul Davis was an incredible singer/song writer. He will be missed and with songs like this, his music will continue to live on and on. Thanks so much for posting this video.

I didn't know he was still performing in 1991; I thought he had retired about a decade prior. I know he died last year around this time.

The guy on Paul Davis' right looks like Paul Overstreet. Can anyone verify this?
