I'm sorry but, I don't think this car is very nice at all. I mean, I'm sure AT the time, in 1984 it turned heads because it was futuristic, something I loved in auto design from that time, lots of futurism in almost all things designed, pop culture. To me this EV-1 looks like a hyper-stretched Pontiac Fiero! Not saying its the worst, just a bit, meh to me in hindsight. Speaking stylistically of course - Gary
Sun panels on the roof to run some elctrical functions when the velchie is turned off, such as cupe ventilation fans for air recirculation when the car is parked.
I guess there are a lot of people who dosen't know of this Saab concept and confuse it with the GM concept - with the same name and somewhat similar design. The SAAB was based on a classic 900 Turbo chassis. It's funny GM, after buying the Saab brand, decided to 'steal' the name for their car...

They need to make cool cars like this because the wacky kias, hondas and subarus suck crack.

I live in Trollhättan Sweden and remember when Saab launched this conceptcar.
Back in 84 this was a very futuristic car..
It was way before its time.

@djillen The problem is that it looks a great deal like the then-production FWD Dodge Charger.

this car is even featured in a "Back to the future" movie.
It is parked on the side of the road in the cene where he is in the future city, on a flying skateboard.

The new GM product EV 1 just happens to share the name with Saabs ev1.
In saab language EV1 stands for Experimental vehicle number 1.
djillen 2 years ago
It was designed by the famous former saabdesigner Björn Envall.
You can see that his design even lives in new saabs.

Why do some of you think that this car is a GM product. IT'S NOT.
This was the first real concept car that former SAABSCANIA put together.

God this is a beautiful design. I think I prefer it to the GM EV-1.

I wouldn't call it "beautiful".. but I prefer it to the ev-1 design too..
Let the Italians play with it a bit, and they would make it look awesome :)

This vehicle was made by SAAB in 1984. EV means "experimental vehicle". It is gas powered - turbocharged 2.0L engine.
So please stop shouting.
