So your argument is that if it was easier to vote, the candidates still wouldn't suck as bad? The bias of the media to the highest bidder would go away? It would be easier to run for president? I will grant you that people probably genuinely have no problem picking the lesser of two evils and standing by that person until its time to vote, but even if we physically forced all people to vote it wouldn't mean our elected officials would be chosen for the right reasons.
There is nothing wrong with expanding the time to vote. Simple.. allow more time to vote. All Laws can be reviewed and challenged. Women wouldn't be able to vote at all and in the south black people would still have to pay a "Poll tax" half a weeks salary before 1965 just to register.. When White males just signed up with no extra anything. that was 43 years ago. some of your grandparent remember that.
If I wasn't going to vote it would be because the media and even non-profit organizations such as this one, only focus on the dems and republicans. I'm not voting if it means choosing between only McCain and Obama. They are going to side step these questions like every other issue until it becomes accessible to attack their opponent. The democrats are protecting Obama from Nader and McCain pretty much fucked himself with Palin. And I think people need to realize it's not a black man vs. a woman.
My bad I was trying to reply but I hit remove. Sorry that you feel that way. We're trying to have a dialogue about the state of the voting system and it seems to be working, thanks to your comments and others. -Jacob
If you are going to try to convince me that only 25 million people don't vote because they are too busy, you are out of your mind. Your daddy should have run for public office so you would know more about politics.
Only people who are democrats would censor comments. You act no better than Tipper Gore.
Mr. "Why Tuesday" You must be kidding. I've seen two of your videos and I suspect you are off your rocker. You are probably one of those people who don't understand that it's the voter turnout issue that is the problem and it's the media's fault as well as the federal government that is part of it. Are you seriously that ignorant to think it's the day? People feel hopeless and the federal election system and the media are the ones at fault. Burger King is hiring.
We don't just think it's the day -- it's the way AND day we vote that contributes to America's low participation -- and the fact that problems with the system increase voter apathy. So, no, we're not kidding. But in some measure you're right too. And I love Burger King. -Jacob
Then please stop distracting people with false anecdotal messages. What you are doing is causing more harm than good. Your interest seems to be more geared to yourself and your status than truly doing anything worthwhile. This is a child game to you, isn't it?
The media is to blame. What about that do you not understand? I find your message repulsive. It sickens and saddens me that you don't look at the facts. Double minded devil.
buisy is not the reason... "Lazy" is more like it. We do have a choice to make our voices heard. And yes the sheeple are too preoccupied with little nuances that are happening everyday in the world like sports and a multitude of other inane distractions.
No, the #1 reason people give is "too busy" -- and there's a whole list of other reasons. But "too busy" is the one that is given most. Check it out for yourself on the Census website. -Jacob
Great channel Jacob. If you get another chance to talk to the candidates why don't you see if they would support a Bar Code ID Card system. This would prevent multiple votes by individuals and allow the voting process to be more than 1 day. What do you think?
Thank you 141BlackDoggie. I just watched that as well. That man is someone I've been watching for some time now. He was the one who initially encouraged me to start a youtube account or profile or something so I was able to hear more of his message and spread it to my friends and family members.
There is also the whole "When is somebody gonna talk about the issues" thing.
Democracy works best when there is an actual vision and goal the people are working towards. We all hear liberal bitch about conservatives and vice versa, but when an undecided voter, apathetic and unsure, is trying to form a political identity, the last way they should decide is in that hate-fest.
LWV was great about this stuff until PTB bought them out. Damn the Man. XD
What about media coverage of elections, which is so shallow, millions are ill informed? Our 2party system? The TWO YEAR LONG process? 0 local election coverage? No expectations of change? No reference for solidifing political views?
These are things politicans and congress can't force to change. Does the WhyTuesday Man have any suggestions for local civic engagement to fix the paramount, socialized reasons people don't vote, which they sum up with: Too busy.
And I consider asking about Tuesday to be the wrong question.
Asking candidates about Tuesday is the sort of thinking that makes provokeing civic engagement difficult: People look to professionals to solve their problems, thus relieving them of any reason to act or think 4 themselves. The Powers That Be will keep on keeping on discouraging voting, but in the mean time DO YOU have any suggestions for civic engagement?
As we've said many many time before, there is no silver bullet for increasing participation, but you have to start somewhere, and the question "Why Tuesday?" opens the door to many -- including the ones you ask. -Jacob
I didn't ask for a silver bullet, but since you are at a lost, I'll go first.
Obama. Millions of supporters who want him elected and are putting out all the stops to do so. But the Presidential election is not the only one on Nov 4th. Over here in Ohio, I encourage supporters to talk about the local politicans and policies that sweep in under the radar of these pop idol elections when no one's paying attention. They are trying AGAIN to build casinos in my state, dang them!
It doesn't make sense. If Americans are so apathetic about how the world's most influential nation is governed, their unused votes should go to the foreign citizens who realize their lives will be equally affected by the next president.
My friend recieved his ballot two weeks ago - he said he is taking a few weeks to decide - but he has wht you are talking about - he has time to vote at his convenience ALREADY - he requested an absentee ballot sent to his house(every state evidently does this)
he said it was easier than ordering a PIZZA - so I don't know what this guy is talking about - most people seem to make an intellectual decision to not vote there - llok at some of the channels - we are fined if we don't vote
I live in Queensland - but my friend lives in the states - Virginia - Ithink - but he says he got a paper ballot sent to him and every state will do that at least two weks in advance - so where is your state where people are too busy to vote? - If someone was too busy to vote here they get FINED
obama is such a class act!

You deleted my comment. Why don't you listen to reason? You refuse to see simple truths.
You are wasting peoples time distracting them from the real issue. You are a jerk.

I didnt make it up -- 25% of the 100 million nonvoters say it to the US Census. -Jacob
WhyTuesday 3 years ago
25%? So it is the number THREE "excuse" for not voting -
the number one "excuse" is "vote will not count" right?
Either way it is just an excuse - right?
so what is the real problem - no more questions - only answers please

You're absolutely right on the mark with this initiative and I was proud to go ahead and sign the petition while watching this vid.
If every single American citizen had additional days with which to use as voter days, the outcomes of these elections would be dramatically different.
