@RedNeckSoloCupJr Of course it will kill a groundhog. I have shot over 20 with my rim fire .22. Try to keep your shots within 75 yds (100 max) and take only headshots. If you shoot them in the chest they will most likely make it back to their holes and expire there. There is no suffering with a headshot. You owe that to them.
@Deerdestroyer543 Well, that model is not made any more. My son has one in a 30-30 caliber. It is a great model. I'm sure they're some used ones around. But the 22 Hornet is still available in many other makes and models.
@Deerdestroyer543 Hey, try finding a 322 Model. My model is not stamped so i thought it was a 340? After more research i now believe it is a 322. Sorry about any confusion.
not over stretched... my .17 has got the heavy barrel, bipod, and a BSA sweet 17 scope that is adjustable out to 250 yds. At 350 i just hold right above the head and it does the job. Its an awesome groundhog gun.
Savage model 40, in 22 Hornet x 4x12 Bushnell scope. Bought it on the G/B site item # 183647112, the photos didn't do it justice, its a beauty. The original owner bought it on a whim, sighted it in @ 100 yds and had lost interest with it. Now to find what ammo it likes & a place with 1 to many ground hogs. Ka-pow!
This may be a stupid question but if i shoot a groundhog in the back with my .22 mag will he run in the hole and die or do you think it would drop him right there?
Excellent long distance shooting for the 22 hornet (300 yards) and getting 1000 reloads from 1 pound of powder is nice too :) Enjoyed the video 100%, with excellent camera work (held steady) and what you did up to and right after the trigger was squeezed ... your verbal dialog was perfect... will visit again.
I would not get a .17 unless it was a center fire! The Hornet is best up to 200 yards although I have had longer shots. But you need to aim a little high. Your never wrong with a 22-250!
Excellent .22 hornet shooting matey! I have a .22 hornet, great fun !!! What ammo are you using.....is is factory or are you using home loads? Keep up the good shooting fella
Thanks! This is an old gun. 1940's It was my Dads. In fact when I got it, it wasn't even drilled out for a scope! I took it to a gun smith to have a scope bracket put on. This gun is old, but hardly ever shot. It has a lot of head shots left in it yet!
looks a lot like my summer. good shooting its hard to pull off shots that far with the .22 me and my friend upgraded to a savage .17 HMR extremely accurate rifle.
Sorry to hear you have never went hunting before. Its a privilege to be able to go. I don't eat them but lots of people I know do and say they taste good. I lay them by the field edge and the coyotes and foxes eat them usually before the next evening.
Thanks! I put the crosshair right on the top of his hair line. Almost didn't get him. My longest shot ever was a 380 yard headshot. I aimed 8 inches high and 5 inches to the left for wind. I got lucky. That was before I got my small camera.
Thanks! It's actually the first round ever made specifically for varmints. Around 1930? Then so many other and better rounds were made and the Hornet took the back shelves. In the 1970's The Hornet became real popular again. Its quiet and no recoil! Around 200 - 250 yds would be about its max range. On occasion I push it a little farther.
Hey, I'm not trying to embarass you, I hunt as well and miss a sometime.s I was wondering If you have ever missed? Like has a groundhog ever moved as you took a shot? Thank's your video's are amazing!
Great one Kyle, I have a few kills that I have on video to get out shortly from this June and July. Can't get in the time hunting this year like I did last year.

@Deerdestroyer543 Savage model 340. Whats nice about it is it has no recoil and only half as loud as a deer rifle! The farmer likes that part.
