  • BOOM YOU JUST killed earth awesome cya in the afterlife!

  • what if terrorist get his hand on this weapon there nothing you can do to stop it leased the unsable engery

  • The LHC is not a weapon. The worst terrorists could do is destroy the machine. Which would cost billions.

  • so what did really happend when they made this ??? i mean when the 2 things colided i am still here so there didnt come a black hole... but what then?

  • The theory is that mini-black holes do not have enough mass to grow, and evaporate quickly the moment they are created. Black holes suck in mass, and the more mass a black hole gets the bigger it gets and it takes billions of years for this to happen.

  • Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity. And I'm not sure of the Universe.

Hay dos cosas infinitas: el Universo y la estupidez humana. Y del Universo no estoy seguro. Albert Einstein

  • when will it acutally collide?

  • I can't wait for the LHC to start generating data, it will truly by a great time for physics.

  • a waste of time? you must not have a clue what this is all about. lol, we do not learn by thoughts alone. It's not really about articles colliding. It's about finding out if we actually exist, and what we percieve as reality.

  • I've got proof how lhc will destroy the world, how can i contact the scientists?!?!?!

    i'm serious!

  • Whats the proof? Its probably something like "I read it in an email" or something?

  • what proof? it's not like the LHC will blow up, it's under the surface of the earth, isn't it? so tell me, what is it?

  • so wheres the black hole ?

  • I think it is such a waste of time. Why? it is because i already prove that higgs boson exists in our natural environment.

  • Go get your Nobel prize!

  • Magnetic collapse is much more rapid than the gravity collapse. At the process of magnetic collapse the nucleon turns such, that its magnetic dipole moment become parallel to magnetic dipole moment of a trap. Gravity collapse needs displacing of a matter inside the Schwarzschild radius. The time interval of neutrino registration at neutrino observatories proved the magnetic collapse of SN 1987A.

Magnetic collapse can be switched at LHC.

  • What will LHC give us: the particle of God, or magnetic trap of Devil. Magnetic trap is an axial-symmetric magnetic analogue of a black hole. It is 10^36 stronger than gravitational black hole.

CERNs specialists do not know about the magnetic trap yet. If microscopic magnetic trap will be made in CERN's LHC, the Earth will be transformed into an infinitely thin emptiness, surrounded by circular current of 6 meter radius. Compare: Schwarzschild radius of such mass is 0,009 meters.

  • Wow... If 2 protons hitting each other at these energies could destroy the world, we'd probably be dead already. (really, cosmic ray collisions have been known to occur at MUCH higher energies.)

Next, you'll be warning us about a bloody magnetic monopole that will sneak into our homes and eat our children.

  • a bloody magnetic monopole did sneak into my home. but i fought it off with a broom stick

  • OK...so several thousand of the best physicists the world has to offer at CERN haven't come up with this 'problem' yet but you have on your own?

    You must be amazingly intelligent.

  • I don't know what a black hole is....

But I know my remote, along with my cellphone charger and my Hank William's CD fell in it. Never to be seen again. What a shame...

  • Compared with another developed countries where the proportion of religious people is not so high, curiously EEUU has the highest proportion of religious people in the world only compared to middle east countries. Is 7 to 10 times more violent than Japan, Sweden, Norway, France or Germany. Maybe american people believe they're blessed by a god for being the most powerful country, what is a childish vision, seeing it outsidely. Fermilab left the road opened for CERN. jaja saint bush

  • Actually, not all Estadounidenses are too proud of that... Bush is not too well liked. As for Fermilab, it's tevatron is still the highest energy collider... until the LHC is working.

Also, don't forget. Americans(people from EEUU) have contributed heavily to both the ATLAS and CMS detectors. Remember that pretty picture they always show of CMS's endcap muon system... That part of the detector was made in the USA.

  • The case was thrown out of court on its first day (they had no evidence, no claims even, they were doing it for attention, as they had for the RHIC accelerator, you'd think they'd have learned, ah well)

  • No you have it wrong. It was actual American scientists that wanted a stop to this program. They feared and still do that a black hole could be created by the force of the particles colliding together. Stop slamming Christians when it wasn't us. I am actually interested in what this atom smasher will find. Learn your facts before you make snide remarks about things you don't know about.

  • I see sugar puddin... nice name... You're refering to all Christians, I know you are. I do not fit the description you just provided, But I am a Christian. I guarantee if you were standing in front of me you wouldn't call me a moron.

  • I discovered a black hole in my backyard.

  • omg. xD

  • any1 got in site of cern??lol!!was hacked by some greek hackers..lol

  • These people are stupid, only thing this machine could do is create the next generation weapon, and possibly killing us all if something goes wrong. You can not recreate the big bang you tards, when the big bang happened, it happened in nothingness, there was no physical matter, or space or anything when the big bang happened, big bang is what created space and physical matter out of nothing. How can you create the big bang in a environment that has physical matter around you or the device...

  • dude you are stupid

if you studied physics and listened to the scientific world you would understand

  • i totally agree :] it probably is about weapons ay. thats all these scientists care about

  • all these scientists care about is understanding how the universe works.. what is done with the knowledge afterwards is basically determined by politicians, be they swayed by the masses or corporations or whatever..

we already have the technology to feed the world, military funding rises instead.. several LHCs could have been built with the money spent on the iraq war..

  • ure talking rubbish guy.

  • Wow you hear "black hole" mentioned anywhere and instantly the LHC is going to kill us all? Particles with MUCH greater energies collide with the Earth's atmosphere all the time. The only difference here is that we're colliding them in a place where we can "see" what happens.

  • nikola tesla was the first scientist to discover cosmic rays(1888-1901)he also has a patent on them first called radiant energy!, the same particles are being made in the particle accelerator, he was also able to utilize their energy for electrical purposes to light and move devices!, i put up videos how to make the device, he also made particle accelerators to show this by having the pieces of matter strike metal sheets and recording their impulse! this was 100 yrs ago, please look it up!

  • CERN was tested yesterday...there were four earthquakes yesterday, Coincidence?

  • yes

  • Considering that there were over 30 reported earthquakes yesterday in California alone, I'd say yes, it's a coincidence.

  • hahahaha lol XD

  • they did only start it yesterday and sent one protone in one way. But in october protons will collide and it's that almost everyone is worrying about...Everybody thinks the danger is over(nothing will happen :))

  • And that's the end of the world!!!

We will die from a black hole we made!

    We are self destructive beings

  • The Team also didnt know wat gonna happen when they turn on the machine

  • The magnetic feild the collider produces will disapate any black holes duh!! do the math..

witch have the people on hear can't do!!

  • They have only accelerated one particle beam around in the tube only at a fraction of power to see if everything is working correctly. They have not actually collided any particle beams together, but when they at over 99% the speed of light, make sure to cover your genitals people!

Even if the odds are against anything going wrong you still have to wonder ,scientist are gambling none of this has ever been tested and are only basing their conclusions so far to their own theory.

  • "...scientist are gambling none of this has ever been tested and are only basing their conclusions so far to their own theory."

That's the whole point of why you experiment! If you knew the outcome with certainty there would be no need.

  • its not the first H C ever built its just the most powerful so experiments like this have been done before just not as powefully as this one

  • they haven't collided any particle beams together yet? hmm do u know when this is happning?

  • At the risk of sounding really stupid here......Does it make sound when they collide?? Or is the term "Big Bang" BS?

  • I understand your confusion =]. The reason it's called the "Big Bang Experiment" is because the LHC will allow us to find out what happened just after the big bang. No sound is made because it's in a complete vacuum so that no other particles get in the way.

  • the chance of this going wrong was like over 9000 and were still here :P

  • they only tested it today. But both tests were successfull (unfortunatly i have no clue what those tests were ]= ) so... yeah they didnt even shoot both beams yet i dont think.. unless CNN lied to me this morning (has happeneded before..)

  • You cannot create a black hole with a machine. Its not possible. Even if it was possible, the black hole wouldn't be big enough to swallow the Earth; its gravity wouldn't be great enough.

  • And it wouldn't suck up enough matter to be a BIG black hole it will evaporate with a billionth of a second of being made! (im 11 i got this of a CERN expert!)

  • you're right =] the so called "mini-black holes" created are not stable enough to exist.

  • even the scientists who are made and run this thing say it will make a tiny black hole...

quote from discription: "The event is one in which a mini-blackhole was produced and decayed immediately."

  • aaaand we re still here....

end of days? aliens jumping out of wormholes strapped with huge laser guns riding green flying horses? black holes eating up the entire universe?

some of you guys didn t do your physics homework.........

and either way, if a team of 7000 of the finest scientists can t get the most important experiment in the history of mankind right, then maybe mankind should be afraid of its own stupidity and incompetence rather than mambo-jumbo soap-opera end of days scenarios

  • You forgot to mention the 2012 scenario :P

  • i study physics, and i totally agree with you Basilis7hh..

  • Pause it at 12 seconds. You can see G-Man.

  • :) :) :)

  • why bother building expensive machines! just ask chuck norris!

  • all this 4 what???

    to die..? :|:-?

  • These people do not know what DO it.

    This is very dangerous....

  • So your better than the 2500 scientists who are workign this project.. Boy Grow Up!

  • Only the Freeman can save us now!

  • hmmm i was waiting for some one to refrence half-life, it all seems very familiar!!!!

  • yeah, right... combines is coming with their portal or something?

    lol your right...

    not..

i was worried the whole day about this...

  • Finally, the thirteenth dimension.

  • It does seem scary, but there is only about a 1 in 50 million chance of it destroying the earth and it might bring unprecedented advances in medicine, clean energy production, unified field theory, computing, and astrophysics.

  • your wrong.

its not 1 in 50 million.

you know, if it would be an tiny little crack in there, it could be like the "new big bang".

and a chance that it's an small crack is bigger then you can expect.. maybe if we're lucky it's 1 out of 500?

  • I remember when they first started this project. I couldn't wait for them to finish. I'm intrested in the outcome. Hope it works the way they designed it to:P

  • Look there is only an incredibly remote chance of the microscopic black holes to actually accelerate enough to show macroscopic effects so lets all calm down and let them do their job.

  • Nothing will happen.

  • to much of interfear of earths mag force..it can and mybe open something we cant control..i dont want to see it..it scares me.

  • It's Going to Hurt!!!...If your wrong!!!..and yes it's a door to another time and space you my not like..HELL.

  • all as i can say..is what a hole???...

  • do not run the new h.l.c.splitting time and spce is not smart ...look at the dienamics of the window factours..mass and anti mass...to hi of speed can and will split electrons causing.refactor magnet split neg the pos mag mass will not work.

i know my spelling is crap!!...

  • It aint gonna happen, no black whole is going to swallow earth, anyway what happened to all you doomsdayers saying the world was going to end in 2012 haha!

  • But tis experiment will stop 2012 ^^

  • im sorry but the whole thing sounds awful! to create a black hole! and to collide to protons at such a high energy state when they dont know how it is to react seems rediculous to think about creating the big bang! which wiped out everything on earth last time i feel is i cant even describe it, i mean ive alwasys thought technology would wipe us out at some point because we would get too carried away but i supose they think its worth it! =O

  • none of that is even factual.

  • what you just said is completely retarded...

The last big bang did not wipe out everything on earth because THERE WAS no earth until after countless eons after the big bang, dumbass...

My god people are so stupid these days...

  • in a about 6 days so drink u my friend we might be screwed

  • dont be scare

  • We have made a Video on the Hadron Collider, please check it out, we enjoyed yours:- eEbxPzHYZNQ&fmt=18

  • 10th september -end of world.Before 11 september

  • September 10

    very close to september 11

    2001

    2008

  • was that supposed to make any sense? lol

  • the first attempt to circulate a beam through the entire LHC is scheduled for September 10, 2008,and the first high-energy collisions are planned to take place after the LHC is officially unveiled, on October 21, 2008. so at 10 septermeber they will just do it slow and not colide the 2 beams...cuz there will be only 1 :D

  • They will do this on september 10.

With particles the size of the ones shown in the video. Yes, they will really be bigger then the room you sleep in. Good luck

  • 2008?

  • hmmmm... is it really a particle if it's that big? Isn't an atom the smallest division of matter? But you were joking, right?

  • September 10th is the date.

I hope they find the Higgs, and some other stuff along with it. If they only found the Higgs then all those particle physicists would be out of a job.

  • VAmos a morir todos!!!

  • 2 days until this happens.

  • Lol that was great that would be a good ride :P

    btw did you make this?

  • forgive my ignorance but someone could explain this to me? and why is people saying that this thing could create a black hole or something like that, i mean blackholes are made of gravity arent they???

  • Black holes can be theoretically created in a sufficiently high energy collisions. Since the protons in the CERN are accelerated to almost the speed of light, they have huge amounts of energy. Colliding would provide an opportunity for a region of sufficiently high density to occur and thus black hole is formed.

And no, black holes are not made of gravity. They are made of high-density matter (practically zero volume). Gravity is believed to be caused by graviton, hypothetical particle.

  • yeah its funny to play with the universe force lets do it!!!!

    :D

  • have they done the experement yet?

  • we're still here, right?

    XD

  • very cool video, thanks

  • At last, a non pathetic video about the LHC, 5 stars

  • Nothing new about this, anybody other than me notice? Real poz public campaign they got there.

  • Curiosity killed the cat? You honestly can't think of anything more original than that to say? I hope you didn't strain anything trying to come up with that one.

  • Curiosity killed the cat...

  • No the risk management style adopted by the cat may have led it to have a higher chance of getting killed by being curious without thinking too much about the ramifications of the actions taken.

  • wow that was awesome

  • Word limit... COntinued. However, due to the gamma emissions, this would also be about 31.25 times more dangerous than a nuclear reaction if it goes awry.

Therefore, even though this is an essentially perfect form of energy, I doubt it would be allowed due to the danger factor.

  • Well, nuclear fission is about 3.2% efficient, and so we need a new source of energy. However, the new source of energy we are now trying to create through this experiment is slightly more powerful - i.e. pure antimatter which is actually 100% efficient. Now, this antimatter emits energy through gamma waves, which are powerfully radioactive.

In essence, this new source of energy will bring us as close to free power as we will ever get, and therefore is a good thing, wouldn't you think?

  • The need is to discover. And we dont have infinite energy with a nuclear fusion. It's a prediction, the huge problem with fusion is that it still uses far too much energy to use. They say it will be ready in around 50 years. Particle colliders scare me as part of their point is to recreate conditions in space on atomic levels..they made a fireball with an event-horizon kind of thing once. Scary. Though I think dr.kaku spoke about them and basically pwned all theory about them being a danger.

  • I dont care what anyone says...

when the do this experiment it is going to be catastophic.

  • Hey, I wanted to see the black hole! =(

  • very detail explaination of how this thing works, but what that really freak me out is that, i keep thinking that it is a giant nuclear device, it produces anti-matter and the end result will be tremendous amount of pure energy, any attempt to switch on the accelerator might result in doomsday, those 2000 scientist must be really insane

  • Antimatter gives E=mc^2 as close to 100% as you can get, but the mass of subatomic particles is small. Annihilation is as much as 186 times stronger than a nuclear reaction, but a destructive mass would be fairly heavy - antimatter bombs could be 374 times smaller than nukes.

It might start a chain reaction that converts all the mass in the earth to 'super-symmetry' particles, but it takes a nucleus the lifespan of our universe to convert before it can even spread the reaction to another atom...

  • what do you need this for when we've got infinit energy with a nuclear fusion? We already can build a bomb with a shockwave that would go around the earth a couple times. The technology was available in the cold war already.

  • did you mean FISION energy? the fusion is not availiable yet

  • did you mean fission...?

  • umm sound like goes up in supernova it not a chemcial at all i know it really just unsable engery cos two proton colide inside capsule once get cold it will create something like 50 -100 kiloton or more engery shockwaves you see it goes around in loop at 100 % of speed of light clockwise and anti clockwise

  • yay!

  • Hey mailoman5 - yeah it could be useful. I'll borrow it after you.

  • i need one of those...

  • Ha, I wonder how long it would take for a single person to have built the LHC? How many man hours went into it, do you think?

  • Wow! People can talk about how this process works all day, but in 30 secs this explains it very clearly.
