  • I watched your video a year ago for the tips and haven't drywalled since. Mudding my bedroom ceiling this weekend. I like your explaination, simple and nice technique. Thank you for sharing.

  • Step 1 ?

  • Maybe you 'pros' should remember that these videos are made for the occasional-use homeowner and the like, not you. There was absolutely nothing wrong with this video nor his technique. It's a beginner's lesson... no need to talk about nuance or advanced issues here... just get the basics. How about a 'thank you' once in a while?

  • Im kinda sick of reading all you posters who are professionals..just put up your own videos and see how OTHERS will say the same sh&t you say here

  • nothing "technically wrong" with his steps, but being a finisher its immediately apparent hes not a pro. All these videos on here are a joke. how about a video made by someone whos legit. you know how, sorta and im sure it looks amazing to someone who doesnt do it for a living but you shouldnt be making any videos bro.

  • @beersandpotatoes why don't you make one?

  • i do drywall professionally and this guy has no idea what he is doing. and your right that is a 12 inch knife not a 6 lol. and that is not the correct way to coat a butt joint maybe one day i'll make a video and show you all the correct way to do it.

  • @ebhuggins please do a video

  • Good video, but didn't that knife look more like 10 inches and not 6?

  • men you mast come to greece!!!! to lerln ho to work right!!....

  • The guy really knows what he is doing. There are some people which know a lot about the trade and I don' see anything wrong about it.

  • all this technique is good on vid but the only way you can learn is by doing it , over and over , and everyday for the rest of your life. lol

  • Six inches, really? I think you made a lot these little boys happy about themselves if that was six inches, ha ha. I gave this video a thumbs up because I like how you explained your "finger technique" It is a great trick for people who are putting on too much mud.

  • @mrJME99 lol ya really...i was going to make a comment on the size of his spatula there, but you beat me too it. Looks to me more like a twelve inch.

  • After the tape is on you use a 8 inch then a 10 then a 12 inch knife. My self I get alot done faster on the ceilings using stilts instead of a ladder!

  • @ricosuave20 Flagged this one too homie... quit hatin'.

  • thanks for showing how to do this...excellent instruction...

  • @ricosuave20 I just flagged your racist comment.

  • @gtr485 Take it easy on me but i wanted to say that i think the reason people have commented on what size knife he says he has is because if he doesnt even know which knife is in his hand then why would you listen to him on anything else. Sorta like if he doesnt know that then what the hell does he know, ya know what i mean?

  • Great work!!

  • Thanks for the tips. Every little tip will be of help to me when i get to this point on my project. And it want be long now, i'am just finishing the insulation.

    Thanks again,Rob

  • This video must have been filmed in Texas where everything is bigger. 25 years ago when I started playing with this stuff, a 6 inch knife meant 6 inches. Hmmmm.... must be some of that new math these youngin's use now-a-days..

  • You and your RED RED WINE !

  • seriously a 10 inch knife is a six inch? also you must be from west coast with your 10 cent a square foot seeming you cant run a box seeming you dont own one. I just take it you cant finish worth a crap considering your screws were covered with a eight or ten cause its really sloppy. place a twelve on there and see how uneven your work is!!!!!

  • Does this guy know what an inch is?

  • expert village sucks ass, if there were a real life expert village, no one in the village would know how to do shit

  • ruff as fucking gutz ,, poor effort

  • Hey ,dont want to bust your bubble, but that is a 10 inch broad knife.

  • what's sad is the fact that this guy does look like he knows what he's doing compared to most of the the finishing videos on youtube...

  • Awesome when you get to old for this job, you should become an instructor, your great, thanks and please keep making these videos. If you make training videos that you want to sell, I will be your first customer. Again AWESOME!

  • Awesome when you get to old for this job, you should become an instructor, your great, thanks and please keep making these videos. If you make training videos that you want to sell, I will be your first customer. Again AWESOME!

  • That is not a 6 inch knife its an 8inch but good work covering the compound.

  • Usually I HATE clicking on Expert Village videos, because they're so short and pointless. But this was a good tip for how to do a task that I always find so challenging. Good point with the finger placement, thanks.

  • why do idiots post how to video's

a real butt joint is 24 to 36 inches wide, you cant take away the flashing of a butt joint with a 12 inch joint, this is comical, and to top it off, everyone posts how great this guy is, but he is so doing it completely wrong it aint even funny, the blind following the blind

  • @camelchute99 ...you're the f'n idiot. Try using English next time."...he is so doing it completely wrong it aint even funny..."

  • @joeswheat his not doing it wrong......that are you talking about.

  • @holywar911 ...?

  • @holywar911 joeswheat was typing sarcastically, He was making fun of cameltoe99

  • @camelchute99 .... Well were's your video,to enlighten us on the finer points of mudding. Typical idiot's comment's.I applaud people posting video's like this, for noobs like me.Its cool when people take the time to make a video, and share their knowledge, but in your case, it's easier to comment from the peanut gallery.(P.S Shouldn't you be picking up underaged girls or something.God how old are you, 40?!)

  • @camelchute99 like the man said if you were listening it was the second coat of shrinkmud. he isnt going to spray a shit coat on top like you do. the is going for four coats each time a wider course. keep spraying shit up there on the cheapo depo homes the banks will get them in forclosure anyway. then you can rent one. with your unemployment check form the income tax he is paying,

  • @camelchute99 It's the blind leading the blind buddy... fucking 'tard.

  • Nicely done. I am just learning . My home just turned 100 this year and I am giving it a little face lift. I appreciate anyone who shares a bit of know how.

  • @iknowcrap2 nice 100 years old do you know how many years an american home is built for? 35 years. of course im talking about the modern ameican home. the new ones that the children are hoodwinked into buying i actually saw one being built with gypsum over the truss and shingles nailed to the gypsum that was clearly labeled for exterior walls only ment to be bricked over it was.

    so buyer beware.

  • @shylosworld78

the man in the video gives a good lesson on drywall.

And about the garbage that you said...

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

It's your world, shylosworld78. We will follow you.

  • Good video

  • You make it look easy.

  • is that not a 12" i guess black guys do have big dicks if he thinks thats 6"s

  • he good but has he heard about a mud pans obviosly not

  • @chicanofire1989 most PRO'S use a hawlk. I guess your not a pro.

  • @jstef928 most pros use what ever they are fastest with, period.

  • KamZ94 you are a bigot.

  • I like these vids 'cause he doesn't take 5 hours to explain something that only takes 2 min to explain.

  • funny how most can not face the truth, which will not stay hidden in the dark too long before it sees the light shining through. as far your economy inside the "corporation of america". africans arent to blame. its called, "karma's a bitch". you can only lie, rob, and deceive for so long before everything's revealed. you better watch cnn, boy. because your so-called country of america, is doomed. there's no helping her lying ass now.

  • @shylosworld78 for over 50 years when the US ecomny catches a cold the world starts dying of the flu. You better hope the US economy gets well or you will shurly die. tell me how many US dollars are under your pillow as you sleep? how many do you hide from your country man so they will never find them? i have seen it all my friend. the dollar ownes the world. gold will not buy salt untill you first trade it for dollar. this is the way it is. this is the way.

  • who mentioned anything about doing drywall for a living? the pyramids were built way before the civilizations that you've mentioned. it was the masons in egypt that taught the others that have built these structures you're mentioning.

  • where do you think 'construction' originated from? egypt. and where is egypt... africa

  • i wonder if this guy comes cheap off the street? haha nice job dude

  • Very informative video. Thanks.

  • looks good but after 20 years of practice i reckon trowels r better for 2nd and top coat

  • im puttin up drywall in a room with a funny shape how do i measure some one pls help

  • You gotta my nigga, good job very Pro Congratulations

  • very nice.. knife and hawk guy.. i use a trowl but the hawk is far more efficient then a pan.. you may want to feather out your butt joints a little wider then a 10-12" knife width though..maybe 2 knife pulls down each side of the tape with a zipper down the tape line. unless ceiling texture is acoustical then it should be fine.

  • I can't beleive that bigtool2321 mentioned with that stupid ass remark. He is just jelous that the young man knows more than he does. Too bad don't be a hater!

  • Your a frickin racist this guy knows more than you I bet.

  • Dumb arse that's a 12inch joint knife not a six. the first coat was with a six. jeez how freakin stupid?

  • Good work, Ilearnde a lot. I'm doing my Bathroom. Thanks.

  • oh thats right, i forgot that morons could post FUNNY FUCKING COMMENTS ON YOUTUBE ASWELL! :D

  • there is no way this guy could ever make it in the union~

  • what is the difference between drywall and plasterboard?

  • we can tell that you don't make your girl moan.

don't talk to me needle dick after this, that'll mean your gay.

  • USAEARTHLING....The reason most people dont have videos on how to do something i because they are too busy actually fucking working to make a video. If people wouldnt post videos of how to do shit the wrong way than people wouldnt have a reason to leave comments so go fuck yourself smartass

  • the only people who accuse someone of fucking their mothers and sisters are the ones who have already done it or are dying to try it.

  • USAEARTHLING

  • this guy is too slow and looks like a baby girl with thoses gloves, he dont know nothing

  • The seam is done well; so he must know something.

  • That's what I was thinking. It looks like it wouldn't even need sanding!

  • which prison did you learn this skill at leroy?

  • i use a 14 all the time lol well depends but i dont like this guys methods ,does this fuckin guy have any other tools besides a knife lol

  • i'm so sick of all the know it alls, who don't have a video here but like to cut every one down. STFU!

  • the reason most people dont have videos on how to do something is because they are too busy actually fucking working to make a video. If people wouldnt post videos of how to do shit the wrong way than people wouldnt ahve a reason to leave comments so go fuck yourself smartass

  • Hey Jerk! A comment expressing how someone did something the wrong way is cool. But when you start making stereotypical / racist comments than thats something different. Oh, by the way some people make enough money to allow them to have free-time (i.e., ME)! Get ya money up!

  • Im not sure if that was directed towards me but i didnt make any comments about race, sexual orientation or anything so dont know what you mean. and as far as money goes my drywall company has made over 192K this year and we still have two months to go.

  • @usaearthling I agree

  • @ConstructionIRE Thank you sir, and I'm sure that being fom Ireland where the metric system is in place, some of these "know it alls" wouldn't know what to do. Infinite wisdom and peace to you.

  • thats what she said.

  • If he was doing a recessed joint i would say he was going ok, im no gun but do it the same way the edges first then down the centre

  • That is a 10 inches, not a six. Any taper would know it, by the way a professional also knows that first you do the crosses and then flats

  • My God is this Guy for real...

He should be coating a min of 24 inches on his nail holes... 12 inches that he has now is not enought......Sure glad i wasnt there on sanding day....lol

Nice work on your butts...Hate to be the guy turning on the lights in the evening and seeing that big Hump....

  • he says its a 6 inch it is a 8 or 12 not a 6

  • machines are alright if the guy using them is neat.If not all the time you saved doing the finishing is lost to cleaning up

  • thanks

  • Nice!.. Thank You.

  • rookie

  • LOOKS LIKE AN 8..

  • All commenters should remember that these vids are meant to give basic tips to a diy'er or beginner. Blasting them about specifics or professional tips on how to make more money as a contractor is not necessary since this video is NOT for a contractor looking to improve his efficiency. Post comments on THOSE vids if you find them

  • I'm not just trying to be a smart ass there buddy....the sooner he gets on track the sooner he can start doing good work and putting more money in his pocket. There are sites and message boards where you can get real proffesional help too. My how toos are in the form of articles if youd like links but I do have plans to make some videos soon....you'll be the first to know when.

  • Noah do a far better Job with hand tools than a guy with machines...Speed isnt everything.. the finnish has to be right and it has to last.. half the guys doing vids on here with super fater taping tools are doing a rip shit and bust job..i might have to do some videos hahahha

  • If you know your job and know both methods and the steps involved to achieve a good finish, boxes will win hands down every time....quality and speed.

  • Well I look at it this way...I can use relatively fast strong setting compounds that provided a strong joint...The types of plasters used in those machines can't compare with that...I don't know what the standard of finnish is over in America though, going by youtube it aint very high, where are the experts on here?? why don't you put a video up? I might do one myself..

  • Cool, I'd like to see it. I am a pro and use setting compounds as well when the size of the job and time involved calls for it. Premixed compounds like all purpose when used correctly are not the cause of a bad job or loss in quality though. I have a short clip up and plan to make instructional based videos and tool reviews as well. Theres a lot of good information out there for both beginers and expets alike. Peace.

  • I'd love to see some vids of machine use too, I do this for a living myself and have a reputation for producing a great finnish, I'd love to be able to use machines for doing joins but worry about the ability of a machine using air dried compound to flush a join off and not leave it hollow..if I'm unsatisfied with the finnish its alot of money down the gurgler, and going to get a banjo though but will be using a setting compound in it...

  • Hey- I totally agree with you. This guy is not a pro at all but, you would never really know if you were not in the trade yourself.

Most of these videos I have seen on yo-yube have been a BiG Joke!

But remember in America we have places like Home Depot with slogans that say "you can do it, we can help" Whatever....You can't learn the Drywall trade-taping especially in a weekend. Come-on! What a joke!!

Oh- I almost forgot all the Good American tapers are out Working and not posting on Yo-yube!

  • i agree boxes can run seems and butts way faster than by hand but there should always be someone behind the box guy fixing corners outlets etc.. to use both is the best and fastest way.

  • Yikes....you're turning this into a lot more work than need be. Get with a good finisher and relearn the basics because you're going about it all wrong.

  • where is your video helping me?

  • First of all your a damn hack!!! That's at least a 10" knife. And holy hell it's not called a spakling knife it's a taping knife. He probably goes around saying his peter is twice as long too!

  • Or a broad knife haha

  • It's a free video meant to give some basics to beginners...relax just a little. If you are a professional you needn't look here. Happy Holidays !!

  • Knowing what tool you have in your hand is pretty fucking basic around here....if in fact we are talking basics!

  • that was painful to watch. dude doesn't even know what size his knife is.

  • thats so funny buddy its pan and nife or hawk and trowel not nife and hawk. looks like a ten inch not a six and you need a 10 and 12inch box but i bet you dont no what that is this vid sucks!

  • Thanks

  • that doesn't look like a 6 inch knife!

it's better to use a 12 inch trowell for coating flats and butts but whatever floats yer boat eh!

  • Wow your nails are WAY to wide. You should be finishing with a 12' Concave trowel for 2nd coat and skim coating with a 14' Your gonna be sanding that all day.

  • Ha Ha 90GSX, I know your only having a laugh about the concave trowel but seriously some guy came to work on our site last year with a concave trowel, f**k me he got the piss taken out of him all day, needless to say he never brought it again!

  • After you put on the tape, how hong do you wait to put on the 1st coat ( covering the tape)?

  • I appreciate you taking the time to make this vid and I'm glad you desire to help others.

However, those who have commented are correct--butt joints should be taped out on both sides, using an 8" box or a knife. You don't even put mud on the very center of the tape. Next coat, sand and run the 8 again down the center or the sides. Touch up as needed. Also, you are actually using an 8" knife in this video. Taping directly over the tape only makes a hump, called "crown". But keep going, bud.

  • fuck letylachaparrita is right . im mexican.. i work as taper and im a lot better than him at puting mud on the walls

  • sorry not even close to being the right way to coat

  • What do you do when you learn from a hack? Unfortunately these are the only people that have time to make a video.

  • preguntale a un mexicano para que te ensene pinche pendejo

  • bro, that is not even close on what it should look like. That is a butt joint and should be busted out once with a 10 inch knife both sides (20 in.) Then a second time with a 12 both sides. Your finised butt joint should be 24 inches wide.

  • this the worst tutorial out there, trust me don't listen to this guy, his coatin is ayt but what he is coating is a butt joint and u do not coat a butt joint like that, a butt joint sticks out so u coat double wide on each side of the tape to fill in the area, bro i hope u don't do ur shyt like that, wouldn't want to be the people movin in cuz that shyt sticks out, even if the ceiling is textured, hope u do it right on the walls at least

  • If only I were left-handed.

  • Dude, you should learn how to use a hawk and trowel, its way better.

Also you go to wide on your screws.

  • Thats one fly Bro!

  • now this the best video i seen on how to apply mud to drywall..thankx dude...
