  • 33 people didn't have anything-thing

  • i was at petco and i went up to the mouse section and said "hi Gerald" to every single mouse and people looked at me like i was crazy :)

  • Love the visuals of this song from my first 8-track: A Nice Pair. The Piper at the Gates of Dawn AND A Saucerful of Secrets.

  • the very first bit of this one reminds me the start of "mean mr mustard" could John Lennon have borrowd something else than a bike?

  • @aprentice1000 pretty sure the scrapped Beatles song What's The New Mary Jane is very similar to Syd's writing too but I've only heard it once before

  • un capolavoro di contrasro di suon e ritmial limete della follia umana

    grandi

  • Barrett's foray into drug use is evident in this song, and on most of this album.

  • i wish a guy would sing this to me. It would be awe-inducing.

  • the cloak area 51? it's mardi gras 2011 ffs

  • Awesome song, from a unique musical genius.

  • My friend told me to listen to this....

  • When you dream , you hallucinate because your brain gives you DMT which is incredible the strongest hallucinogen known to man but perfectly normal. In fact , you can smoke DMT to go back to the "dream world" and you can't overdose or die. You see the definition of drugs mean "a substance absorbed into the body". You take drugs everyday including food and drinks or even being outside the trees give you a high which is why we say the smell is "mother nature". There are good and bad drugs

  • @evilmario36 So, where in America can you get DMT?

  • @Ironstringz

    you know... drug dealers :P

  • @Ironstringz MI

  • syd barrett was so fucking brillant --not he was insane, the world went crazy!! (apart from hislsd overdose, he was so brillantly normal!!!)

  • @MoveOverCasanova

    you can't overdose on lsd...

  • @evilmario36 but you can destroy your brain with lsd, as syd barretts example clearly shows, and he is really not the only one

  • @MoveOverCasanova

Not really , he became schizophrenia before he even took LSD as it cleary shows. Do some research as scientists use LSD to cure cluser headaches as well... LSD has minimum physical affects and only mental affects like hallucinating... health has clearly brainwashed you all as they used it as scare tactics because they didn't want anyone using illegal drugs. The creator of LSD was Albert Hoffman and he died at 102 years old in 2008. You didn't see his brain fried did you?

  • @evilmario36 there is a major difference between scientists using lsd and people ABusing it! you can never know what it does to such an unsayably complex mechanism as the brain -- and how do you now so much about barrett´s actual mental state??

  • @MoveOverCasanova

Because pink floyd was interviewed about syd barret and they even said he wasn't acting right before he even went on LSD. Why are you getting cautious? LSD can't be abused no matter how much you take because you can't overdose on it. Actually the definition of overdose means "over the dose of the recommendation of dosage". Let's say I recommend a friend of mine to take 50ug of LSD but he takes 100ug instead. He overdose on the recommendation of how much he should have taken.

  • @MoveOverCasanova

and by saying he overdose on the recommendation of how much he should have taken , I mean it not by death. Overdose does not always mean you can die. It means you took "over" the dose of recommendation because there's a high chance of a bad trip. "and how do you now so much about barrett´s actual mental state??" I should ask you the same thing...

  • @MoveOverCasanova

one more thing "you can never know what it does to such an unsayably complex mechanism as the brain" your right but what we do know is that the majority of people who took LSD did not have any problems later on or died. "there is a major difference between scientists using lsd and people ABusing it!" You see , the definition of abusing is "misuse: improper or excessive use". You can't misuse LSD as there's no possible way to do that or improperly use it.

  • @evilmario36 i took it myself, quite a FEW times, and it pretty affected me,- not negatively, but i had weeklong hangovers from a few little trips back then you know -- it all depends on the individual psyche as i said<<

  • @evilmario36

your wrong if you take too much lsd, you can and will kill yourself.

  • @evilmario36

your wrong if you take too much lsd, you can and will kill yourself.

  • @999idad

name one person who overdosed on it

  • @MoveOverCasanova

When you say it can destroy your brain , your talking about acid... LSD is not actually acid as the word "acid" was a street name for LSD. One of the smartest mathematicians took LSD and DMT and they are very well educated and not insane. If you want to know what DMT is , it is a stronger hallucinogen drug than LSD , in fact not even comparable to LSD. Now you may think you don't want to take DMT but your body produces DMT when you go to sleep in order to "dream"

  • Fotunately I have got a clan of Gingerbread man - they are mostly called Gerald

  • who would dislike this? theres 29 idiots out there

  • I listen to this song just to hear Syd Barrett smashing his guitar on a piano, weirdest sound ever, but awesome!!

  • Reminds me of The Specials at some points. :S

  • kinda reminds me of the beeatles..

  • I can only imagine listening to this under the influence of drugs...

  • @Cptjackjacky I don't need to imagine

  • This song makes me happy for some reason and I start laughing and puts me in a good mood I love Pink Floyd xoxo

  • @ThePinkFloydPortal after listening to echoes, this song takes you back to normality (out of depression)

  • This song is trippy,,,,

Syd was a hell of a guy.

  • shit

  • LLLLLLSSSSSSSDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • If there's any symbolism in Barrett's music, it's that the child like view of the world should never go away. I'm not a big fan of this Pink Floyd, but I'll never deny that Barrett was a genius in his own right.

  • @Polterguist yup....floyd died along with sid.

  • @paulthepill Agreed.

  • this sent me to a bad trip lolz but i kinda lykked it

even thoo it scared the crap out of meh, cause sum1

knocked on the door hella loudd, it was a joke from one of my

friends lolz shed knew we couldve got scared and we did ;D

  • AMAZING!!!!

  • @SLee1337 What a bike can do!!!

  • @UltimatePineapple Lol yeah, I mean if it's inspired by LSD, there's probably not a lot in this song that makes sense, or can be taken to actually mean something....XD

  • Your the kind of girl that fits into my world. I'll give you anything everything if you want a things

  • this song is obviously about psychosis. I should know

  • man, what were they on?

  • is this about a skateboard? :P

  • Syd <3 The king.

  • This was my favorite song when I was in Preschool I would play it all the time! :)

  • I like the part with the bike

  • @SJeeShow Fail.

  • @SJeeShow HAHAHAHA YEAH!

  • I stole this from a lyrics page comments, but it says it perfectly:

Talking about the "Bike" it's a nice and childish way to convince a girl that you like her.. So it makes it simple and at the same time bizarre cause it's a grown up that is convincing the "girl" oferring her everything she wants. SYD = GENIUS

  • mean mr mustard is such a copy of this.

  • I couldn't believe my ears when this came on the local classic rock station that usually doesn't play any Barret-Era Floyd. People at work were looking at me like I was insane because I was rockin' out to this.

  • i like ducks.

  • @santaclaus152 hahahha

  • @santaclaus152 csb bro

  • @santaclaus152 Not like you would have done anything productive with that time asshole.

  • I call my mouse Gerald, too.

  • I guess this is one of the worst songs of the first Floyd's album

  • @Pacoarceaguilar If you're going to hate go away.

  • hey i have a mouse named gerald long for gerry

  • Haha. i love it.

  • @UltimatePineapple

Wow. Really? "Black brat"? Had to lower yourself to the racism bit? "What are you implying? That you're more intelligent than me? I highly doubt that." Sounds like someone is a tad on the sensitive side. Get over yourself please. I made my point very clearly sans insults. Have enough respect for yourself to do the same. Glad that ForsakenTank saw what I was saying.

    Thanks.

  • :3 makes me feel good

  • esta claro que este disco es clave en la historia de la musica

  • Listening to Syd's Pink Floyd makes Waters' look normal.

  • Great tune. The first half, especially with the lyrics, for whatever reason remind me of being halfway delirious when I'm sick.

  • @2223ams I can see that.

  • i love this band! so amazing!

  • The ducks at the end are AWESOME!

  • @RumAngel I don't think those are ducks. It's just laughter sped up. It is awesome, though, I agree. And creepy.

  • There was always meaning to to Syd's songs, especially the most simple ones. Check out Waters and Gilmour and the rest on what they have to say regarding this song and others written by Syd. The man was a profound genius. It's a shame that you people have to limit yourselves to take away any meaning from the song in order to enjoy it.

  • 27 people haven't got a clan of gingerbread men

  • @b48964 shut the fuck up dude

  • @greatgriffin68

wise words, wise words. I also hate turds.

  • @MrBabablah Yeah and me, so fuck off.

  • @greatgriffin68 How about you mind your own business. You batty flex.

  • @b48964 batty flex? you must be mentally handicapped

  • This song makes me think WHEEEEEEEE!!! :D

  • WHY IS THIS SONG ECHOING!!!!! MY HEAD HURTS!!!!!!!

  • love this song!!

  • @UltimatePineapple personaly i feel like the parts where hes talking about bike and ginger bread mans and mice.is his lovely life then when it gets all tripy with YOUR THE KINDA OF GIRL THAT FITS IN WITH MY WORLD he refers to divine energy or a cosmic truth. idk alot of psycheldelic writers were into that kinda of stuff espacially with the help of some ACID:D

  • I'd give it to you if I could, But I borrowed it.

  • This was definetly the product of an acid trip.

  • @ThomasMoar Yeah people look for a meaning in the song buuuuut its just ramblings of drugs! Man...time to go snort pain killers.

  • @ForsakenTank

There was always meaning to to Syd's songs, especially the most simple ones. Check out Waters and Gilmour and the rest on what they have to say regarding this song and others written by Syd. • @valaurwen Of course your correct to a point. But to another point they did alot of drugs and im sure they Influenced some of there songs. Call me dumb but the whole song seems to be the cause of a drug trip not saying it has a greater meaning behind .

  • @ForsakenTank

I totally agree, it could totally be just a rambling acid trip bit, but I just never understand why people always seem to feel the need to separate a song that has meaning behind it from a song that is for pure enjoyment. It seems that Syd was always combining the two. Fortunately for me I've never really thought to separate them.

  • @valaurwen Could not agree more half the enjoyment is from the meaning of the song, and that could be bright and cheery or meloncholy and dark. If a song makes you feel a certain way Its a win in my book. Nice debate very valid points im happy It was not a flame fest like most of the people feel like they have to have. Its like jees can't people have a intelligent discussion not drop the F bomb or insults every 5 secs.

  • @ForsakenTank

I know what you mean -_-. The internet seems made of flames burned by trolls lol. People unfortunately don't have enough respect for themselves and others to have a simple discussion of opinions sans insult. Well one thing we can all happily agree upon, I hope, is that Syd was a tremendously beautiful mind - the sort that one often only gets the chance to read about in textbooks. Always great to "meet" an intelligent Barrett aficionado (who is also as young as I, lol)! Cheers :).

  • @valaurwen Yes I would agree, thanks for the comments it was fun reading and discussing them with you! Have a good one! (Also just think of everyone dressed in white at are age group, well we get to walk around dressed in whatever damn color we want. Its called opinion and being intelligent, and alot of are peers seem to have lost that skill.

  • reminds me of being in love at the carnival

  • but i borrowed it

  • you know the meaning of this song? THAT WAS SOME GOOD SH*T!!!!!!

  • Perhaps the greatest song of all time.

  • lol, Barret. you wonder why he went insane.

  • Some songs deserve decoding a meaning, but Pink Floyd is a bit of both, enjoy their songs, and if you want deep meanings. listen to The Division Bell

  • The song shows how hope is carried as a battle flag through the predicament of man. The messenger, the carrier of that which breaks the illusion of passing time, is the player on the clockwork as we get to meet in the last verse. A whimsical landscape of arbitrary objects, sounds, names all entailed by the clock. As this profound reality is being unveiled another level of chaos unfolds. We meet the usual surroundings of gods: noise. The choir of revolt in the end tells us that we must slay them!

  • @LogInAnders

    earth to anders?..........

  • its hard not to appreciate the "musique concrète" of oscillating brilliance after the last verse. It definately shows off Syds genius and how it "fit into his world". Thank you for the post blestemp.

  • Syd Barret was one of the weirdest singers ever. This is proof.

  • LSD must have been one hell of a drug back in the 60's.

  • This is the first time I've heard this song. After hearing the lyrics I decided to try to figure out "WHOA MAN, WHAT COULD IT MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAN???" the only thing I could think was.

"Poems everybody, poems. The boy fancies himself a poet!"

  • Comment removed

  • first heard this in rock music class and have loved it ever since! MY FAVORITE pink floyd song.

  • its like old of montreal!

  • @ajay7536 fuck off pink floyd is not "like, of montreal" IF anything of montreal is "like" pink floyd but there not so i don't know what your on.

  • @thebooshismighty1 chillll. all i'm saying is that it sounds similar in the sense that of montreal use to have that older sound before they progressed. obviously pink floyd was around first so i don't even see why i'm explaining this.

  • gerald is the best part

  • funniest pink floyd song ever. syd was truly a genius. too bad he went crazy, i want more songs like this

  • @UltimatePineapple It's obviously about a bike.

  • @jesusloveserrvrybody and he wishes it was a girl.

  • rip syd. i share a birthday with syd barrett. both crazy diamonds. shine on <3

  • My friend Savannah sang this to me today

  • rip pink floyd we miss u sid

  • my bike its the kind of girl that fit in whit my world

  • I always thought this song was reffering to Dr. Albert Hofmann's famous bicycle ride..

  • Regardless of how you feel about the various incarnations of Pink Floyd, you've gotta admit that Syd Barrett's PF was alot more fun than Roger-Gilmour era Floyd (I'd argue they were more unique and innovative as well, but that's JMO). This song makes me smile so much :) Shine on, Syd!

  • oh gawd syd barret is scary

  • Real music .. !

  • *Obligatory*

    25 people don't have a bike.

God... are there no depths to which I won't sink?
