Mine has no oil tube that I can see, and has never been oiled either. Just uploaded a video this morning. Low speed is going out, but still works on the other two.
My step- grandpa has 2 R&M Originals. a 36" model in his kitchen, and a 52" adaptaire model in his living room. there from 1981, they have never been oiled, one of them is on a dimmer switch and they are not as loud as that. they, however, don't work on low speed.
Years ago, I paid $6 for a 1 oz tube of Hunter oil (same as comes with a new fan). I just bought a quart bottle of 10W non-detergent oil (what Hunter specifies) from O'Reilly Auto Parts for $2.69! Their item number is "ND10".
I have two Hunter Originals, white with bright brass, bought new in 1992. They're used every day. All other ceiling fans in my house get replaced in 5-10 years.
Ok, all these comments are making me feel dumb because I don't know how to oil a ceiling fan and my fan is making the same noise. BTW this fan came with our first house. How do I go about oiling the thing?
I really like this style fan and even as a child, the hunter original is what was in my parents house (1981) They also had 2 of the 36" originals. I put the classic originals in the home i lost in Hurricane Katrina and my current home has 4 of the classic original fans.
I was just getting ready to buy my 5th original for the house, my second bright brass fan and found out hunter is no longer making that model / finish. Its probably worth having that fan you have refurbished.
You know they went overseas in 2001, right? I've got one (although not in Bright Brass) that I'm listing on ebay this evening. Let me know and I'll list a brass one for you if you want one.
I bought a brand new one for my bedroom for $111 on sale at Home Depot back in '03. Always loved seeing these in restaurants, bowling alleys, etc. I never knew till then that it recirculated oil. It's still as quite and wobble free, after being used on medium speed every night, as it was the day I installed it.
Who cares if the comment was a year old? I happened across it looking for information about a ceiling fan, and I get you, with your head jammed up your ass, getting all worked up about a fucking fan like someone shot a dog, you fucking dumb-ass. Fuck off.
Ouch... Like I said, that comment is over a year old. Maybe I did overreact in that comment, but nowadays I've got other things to do than obsess over a broken fan. Now that I come to think of it, are you even a "fan entusiast"---dare I call it that---or are you just here to pry on a comment that should really mean nothing to you. I already did "chill the fuck out..."
Yeah, evidently one of things you have to do nowadays is get all defensive when someone calls you out for being an asshole. You were an asshole then, and evidently you still are. Take a break, dick.
So not only do many people not know to take care of good-quality fans, and that replacement parts, such as flywheels are available, but they assume that cheap replacements will do just as good. There is a "how to install a ceiling fan" video on YouTube where a 1980's Emerson was replaced with a Harbor Breeze.
The food establishment at the Pittsburgh Zoo used to have two Casablanca Delta? ceiling fans with flywheel stack motors. However, when the flywheels finally wore out and broke, the fans were replaced with cheap Hampton Bays.
Damn, I hate it when some(well most) people don't know how to take care of their fans by oiling the bearings and checking the blade brackets and the blades itself! About two hours ago when I was in the liquor store, I had saw the four new industrial ceiling fans(I don't know what kind of fans are they) which had replaced the Banvil Envirofan Silverline industrial fans. One of the fools who had previously owned this fan just doesn't know how to take care of it properly! Anyway, great video!
Yeah, I hate it too when some stupid idiot hasn't taken the time to become an expert on maintaining every single thing in his home like you have. Damn I hate that.

We never oil our fans as far as I know.

What the f*ck?! This fan most certainly deserves better. Did the previous owners of this fan even read the owner's manual?!

@BlueStreak440: No - it's conceivable that they have better things to do with their time than worship at the altar of Hunter Ceiling Fan.
