At the DSM shootout he blow the removal plate from the IM and didn't make a clean pass at high boost and nitrous... People that are trying to compare a stockish Eclipse/Talon vs a modified vette are freaking stupid. There are plenty of DSMs/Evos that would put this Vette to shame, but there are plenty Vettes that would put those to shame.

My brother has an Eclipse cammed bigger turbos intercooler all kinds of shit done to it. took him for a ride today he said holy fuck... u would smoke me.. so yeah from owning a DSM and now a GM.. ill never own another DSM again considering and i still get 28mpg in my Vette :-)
@jsizzle2k6 I'll spare you the rod being that you obviously owned a vr4, but any serious DSMer past or present would know that the eclipses don't have turbos, they have a single turbo. Also, there are plenty of videos on here of DSM's killing vettes.

Even stock for stock in 1990 the 0-60 and 1/4 times the mustang gt and talon tsi were almost identical. Just wondering but Eagle was made by Jeep/Chrysler which in turn would make it American not Japanese?. I know that a Talon is pretty much the same as Eclipses of the same generation. Both sick cars btw.

That Vette is fast, that being said I have seen some imports that will smoke my stock 09 Vette coupe. I don't race against dsms for money unless I look under the hood as some of those cars are capable of science fiction speeds, same with some Supras and RX-7s out there, not to mention the WRX STI among others. I just like displacement over turbos, different ways to go fast.

Sure when mine is done and if you were to look at it you would notice a rather large turbo but don't discredit the stock turbo/stock appearing turbos. The Evo stock turbo has gone 10s on many different cars and stock appearing has gone as low as 9.4 and 700+ hp. Many cars stock aren't fast. Displacement plus turbo(s) is the way to go :)

Typical American Fanboy. The only thing that matters is how much fuel and air under the correct mixture is in the combustion chamber when the spark hits. Small inline 4s like DSMs force the air in with a turbo. Actually pressurizing the air and force feeding the flow making an extremely dense volume of air inside the cylinder. More air means more fuel can be added. More fuel = more power. Try learning basic engine operation and physics before flaming again so you can avoid the embarrassment.

the fact of the matter is yes there is no substitute for bigger cubic inches, because based on your same theory you can put a turbo charger on a large cubic inch v8 and still out perform a smaller cubic inch engine.

Also, an 8 has twice, if not more, the rotational mass of a 4. So the 4 can rev much higher which allows for it to be geared extremely short. The size of a motor doesn't make a car fast. Air flow, the right amount of fuel injection, correct ignition timing/valve timing, RPM's, and gearing all combined is what makes a car quick.
@petthekittyz anything you say a turbo charged 4 cylinder leaf blower has, can be put on a large cubic inch v8, thus it negates anything you say, there is no substitute for cubic inches. actually, i didn't mention 4 cylinder or V8 dip shit, and a pushrod V8 has many weak points, mostly in RPM, a DOHC engine is capable of much more RPM's, twice the RPM's is like having twice the engine size because you have twice the combustions in the same amount of time, the upside to the smaller engine is that it weighs less, therefor the gains improve performance drastically more.
the only reason the only cars on earth running 4's are V8's is the same reason that nascar can only use pushrod engines, because those races have rules that must be followed, one of those rules is the engine must be a pushrod engine! because to vary from that is an unfair advantage, those classes have been around forever, and the tuning of those old engines is amazing! but an DOHC engine is considered an unfair, and thus illegal engine in those classes.
fastest cars are pushrods, you claimed because the fastest cars are V8's that they are better, well they ARE pushrod engines, thats a rule to compete, and obviously they are not better than a DOHC engine, so your whole because the engine is the fastest its the best is null and void, nuff said

yes for all you noobs out there Eagle was owned by Ameritech which was owned by Chrysler, and like most "imports" they were made in american. the word import when referring to cars doesnt neccasarily mean the car is from japan , it means the company whom makes the car is based out of japan, but nearly every "import" in american is made here. And yes the talon made about 195 hp a the crank. With about 5 grand that talon would smoke that Vett. It may have sounded bad but that vett wasnt crazy fast

Try running 100+ hp per cylinder ina muscle car with stock internals. this is partly why they say imports break alot, im sure a 850 stock interntal v8 wouldnt last long either. Funny how some call the DSM an import but a avenger/stratus/sebring arnt. Even though all were made at the same factory in Normal, Illinois. By american workers/parts. That factory is stil there btw but is called Mitsubishi Motors Manufacturing of America (MMMA) after 1995 instead of Diamond Star Motors. MMMA exports to 26 countries worldwide. Any E/T/L build before 1994 is a DSM. Everything after that is just a 2g,3g etc
the talon jumps ahead the vette driver was " asleep at the line " and then its all static until the vette passes him then its sweet clear peaceful muscle music :)

The DSM probably would have done a little better if it had more than pocket change in mods to it. 13@103 is pretty low on the DSM food chain considering 11s@120+ on stock internals and pump gas is somewhat-routine stuff nowadays.

Not possible. The 4-cylinder would fall apart. I've seen cars built for pro drag racing blow gaskets, headers, spark plugs, even pistons, while running on high boost. Shot their parts right out through the exhaust and destroyed their engines. Also, the amount of money spent on making a DSM car beat a Corvette could be used to buy a Corvette. Ever think of it that way? I've seen '04 Z06s sell for as low as $10k USD.
Maybe if an idiot is running 40psi. But stock internals would hand 15-18psi easy. I work on DSM's daily as a living and it would not cost anything near what this vette is worth. Working on DSM's for a living isn't exactly what I would consider a standing for an argument nor something to brag about... Your credibility is suspect to me. Also, re-read my previous post. I never mentioned "Pro Drag Race DSM's". I clearly said: "...I've seen cars built for pro drag racing..." Nowhere in that phrase does it include the abbreviation "DSM". So, obviously if a car built for the purpose of drag racing would fail at high psi, then a street legal DSM would do fair just the same.
Eclipse vs. Corvette = V8 Owns your 4-cylinder ass! You guys really are thick headed aren't you? Do you realize that what you say actually proves that your car is slower? Let me clear this up for you: If you need all of those modifications to your "DSM" with a tune-up job just to compete with a 405 horsepower, naturally aspirated, stock Corvette C5; does that not mean your car is actually less powerful and slower?
A note to keep in mind: No Diamond-Star Motor car would be of any contest for an LPE Corvette. They run 0-62 MPH in 3.2 seconds; 1/4 Mile in 9.524 @ 145.25 MPH; and an estimated top speed of over 230 MPH.
Also in the video, notice it doesn't tell you what the Talon has installed on it. Just it's 0-60 and 1/4 mile time. The 2nd Gen. TSi's with Garret T25 Turbo 4G63's only had 205 horsepower. That was WITH 14 psi!
Those kids didn't know what there were doing and I doubt they did any mods. A stock DSM could do better than 13s in a 1/4 mile. And for your info, if you put $10k in a $1k DSM it'll fukn smoke vette, vipers w/ a supercharger or twin turbos.

It's just quite laughable you can take so much pride in a the $100k Lingenfelter and cant admit it's far from the level of a cheap DSM. Countless DSMs have gone under 9.50 sec in the ¼ mile. The last time I checked, the fastest DSM for the ¼ mile is 6.976 sec. 725 BHP is nothing. Hundreds is DSMs is going over 725 WHP.
And I will bet you that 6.9 second car is not street legal. You CAN NOT get that much power out of a 4-cylinder motor without using illegal parts. The Lingenfelter isn't $100k and is also street legal. Lingefelter's are not cars either, so stop talking like they are. They are performance packages for many cars. The 725 horsepower is to the rear wheels and is a $38k C5 upgrade package. I think you need to open your god damned eyes and look at the truth before opening your fucking mouth.
No illegal parts used, they don't use nitrous oxide or methanol injection. Don't assume DSM is ricer materials, it isn't a JDM car.
As for the Lingenfelter package, it is $38k and assuming you don't get the vette for free the overall cost of adds up. And 725 BHP is brake horsepower not RWHP, rear wheel horsepower.
You need to open your eyes before speaking. Do some legitimate research.
99% of corvette people who mod their cars heavy don't go the lingenfelter route. You can make 700rwhp on pump gas for half the cost and be reliable. I'm into my C5 about 7k worth of mods and I'm at 480rwhp on a safe tune with no spray. If I spent about 10k for a forged motor and upgraded drivetrain, I could hit 700rwhp easy with room to grow.

That Vette is fast, that being said I have seen some imports that will smoke my stock 09 Vette coupe. I don't race against dsms for money unless I look under the hood as some of those cars are capable of science fiction speeds, same with some Supras and RX-7s out there, not to mention the WRX STI among others. I just like displacement over turbos, different ways to go fast.

Sure when mine is done and if you were to look at it you would notice a rather large turbo but don't discredit the stock turbo/stock appearing turbos. The Evo stock turbo has gone 10s on many different cars and stock appearing has gone as low as 9.4 and 700+ hp. Many cars stock aren't fast. Displacement plus turbo(s) is the way to go :)

Typical American Fanboy. The only thing that matters is how much fuel and air under the correct mixture is in the combustion chamber when the spark hits. Small inline 4s like DSMs force the air in with a turbo. Actually pressurizing the air and force feeding the flow making an extremely dense volume of air inside the cylinder. More air means more fuel can be added. More fuel = more power. Try learning basic engine operation and physics before flaming again so you can avoid the embarrassment.

Also, an 8 has twice, if not more, the rotational mass of a 4. So the 4 can rev much higher which allows for it to be geared extremely short. The size of a motor doesn't make a car fast. Air flow, the right amount of fuel injection, correct ignition timing/valve timing, RPM's, and gearing all combined is what makes a car quick.

actually, i didn't mention 4 cylinder or V8 dip shit, and a pushrod V8 has many weak points, mostly in RPM, a DOHC engine is capable of much more RPM's, twice the RPM's is like having twice the engine size because you have twice the combustions in the same amount of time, the upside to the smaller engine is that it weighs less, therefor the gains improve performance drastically more.

One more thing, The 4g63 for 3.5k ish could easily hit 400+ hp and run 11s in the right hands. Might sound weak ina muscle car guys mind but thats 100+ hp each cylinder Stock internals. Try running 100+ hp per cylinder ina muscle car with stock internals. this is partly why they say imports break alot, im sure a 850 stock interntal v8 wouldnt last long either. Funny how some call the DSM an import but a avenger/stratus/sebring arnt. Even though all were made at the same factory in Normal, Illinois. By american workers/parts. That factory is stil there btw but is called Mitsubishi Motors Manufacturing of America (MMMA) after 1995 instead of Diamond Star Motors. MMMA exports to 26 countries worldwide. Any E/T/L build before 1994 is a DSM. Everything after that is just a 2g,3g etc

The DSM probably would have done a little better if it had more than pocket change in mods to it. 13@103 is pretty low on the DSM food chain considering 11s@120+ on stock internals and pump gas is somewhat-routine stuff nowadays.
C5+ Vettes are kickass, though, no doubt about it. 4g63 and the LS1+, two of the greatest engines ever made.

Not possible. The 4-cylinder would fall apart. I've seen cars built for pro drag racing blow gaskets, headers, spark plugs, even pistons, while running on high boost. Shot their parts right out through the exhaust and destroyed their engines. Also, the amount of money spent on making a DSM car beat a Corvette could be used to buy a Corvette. Ever think of it that way? I've seen '04 Z06s sell for as low as $10k USD.

Maybe if an idiot is running 40psi. But stock internals would hand 15-18psi easy. I work on DSM's daily as a living and it would not cost anything near what this vette is worth. You should know better, nothing is impossible with DSMs and high performance cars in general. In regards to "Pro Drag" race DSM's, your completely off subject. AND, I call BS on a 10k Z06, unless its a crashed title and its a c5, HIGHLY doubt it was a zo6. Have a good one bro ;)

Working on DSM's for a living isn't exactly what I would consider a standing for an argument nor something to brag about... Your credibility is suspect to me. Also, re-read my previous post. I never mentioned "Pro Drag Race DSM's". I clearly said: "...I've seen cars built for pro drag racing..." Nowhere in that phrase does it include the abbreviation "DSM". So, obviously if a car built for the purpose of drag racing would fail at high psi, then a street legal DSM would do fair just the same.

Eclipse vs. Corvette = V8 Owns your 4-cylinder ass! You guys really are thick headed aren't you? Do you realize that what you say actually proves that your car is slower? Let me clear this up for you: If you need all of those modifications to your "DSM" with a tune-up job just to compete with a 405 horsepower, naturally aspirated, stock Corvette C5; does that not mean your car is actually less powerful and slower?

A note to keep in mind: No Diamond-Star Motor car would be of any contest for an LPE Corvette. They run 0-62 MPH in 3.2 seconds; 1/4 Mile in 9.524 @ 145.25 MPH; and an estimated top speed of over 230 MPH.
Also in the video, notice it doesn't tell you what the Talon has installed on it. Just it's 0-60 and 1/4 mile time. The 2nd Gen. TSi's with Garret T25 Turbo 4G63's only had 205 horsepower. That was WITH 14 psi!

Those kids didn't know what there were doing and I doubt they did any mods. A stock DSM could do better than 13s in a 1/4 mile. And for your info, if you put $10k in a $1k DSM it'll fukn smoke vette, vipers w/ a supercharger or twin turbos.

725 BHP is nothing. It ain't even 725 to the wheel and 9.50 sec 1/4 mile? Well good thing that a $100k racing car is slipping up the 10s.
It's just quite laughable you can take so much pride in a the $100k Lingenfelter and cant admit it's far from the level of a cheap DSM. Countless DSMs have gone under 9.50 sec in the ¼ mile. The last time I checked, the fastest DSM for the ¼ mile is 6.976 sec. 725 BHP is nothing. Hundreds is DSMs is going over 725 WHP.

And I will bet you that 6.9 second car is not street legal. You CAN NOT get that much power out of a 4-cylinder motor without using illegal parts. The Lingenfelter isn't $100k and is also street legal. Lingefelter's are not cars either, so stop talking like they are. They are performance packages for many cars. The 725 horsepower is to the rear wheels and is a $38k C5 upgrade package. I think you need to open your god damned eyes and look at the truth before opening your fucking mouth.

No illegal parts used, they don't use nitrous oxide or methanol injection. Don't assume DSM is ricer materials, it isn't a JDM car.
As for the Lingenfelter package, it is $38k and assuming you don't get the vette for free the overall cost of adds up. And 725 BHP is brake horsepower not RWHP, rear wheel horsepower.
You need to open your eyes before speaking. Do some legitimate research.

99% of corvette people who mod their cars heavy don't go the lingenfelter route. You can make 700rwhp on pump gas for half the cost and be reliable. I'm into my C5 about 7k worth of mods and I'm at 480rwhp on a safe tune with no spray. If I spent about 10k for a forged motor and upgraded drivetrain, I could hit 700rwhp easy with room to grow.
