EDDIE TORRES IS THE TREE AND ALL OF THESE OTHER DANCE INSTRUCTORS/Dance schools - Piel Canela, Santo-Rico, Yamule, RazzMatazz, and whatever other school you can name especially in NYC, are the fruits of EDDIE TORRES. They all went to Eddie Torres and learned ON-2 Mambo. Some people say this school is better than that one and bla-bla-bla, THEY ARE ALL EDDIE TORRES Students. Whichever school you go to you learn INDIRECTLY from EDDIE TORRES. LOL! No insult to anyone, just an observation.
Oh Wow!!!...She must have learned from all the Eddie Torres and Razz-Ma-Tazz
( Angel Rodriguez and Addie his wife who created the Womans Styling)-Video on NYRican Styling. Cause, those practice basic steps are the Fundamentals and foundation of Thee' "Mr Eddie Torres" Basic Mambo Step. Good Job Joret you've learnd well. Keep up the good work.
A couple of reasons, and I say so as someone who also danced as a kid - You can better communicate the exact position you need to be at, during a dance pattern with the numbers. Also, as the pattern gets more complicated (and it really can), it helps to use the numbers to constantly calibrate where you feel you need to be at any given time. Just my take, hope it helps.:)

I've been dancing salsa since I was a kid, and every time I see these videos I wonder why do they count?

Like I said, I've been dancing almost all my life. And yes, I was taught the basics when I was a kid by my mom and aunt, we never count though.
