Roy didn't invent the butterfly, Glenn Hall did. Roy perfected it though, and now there are virtually legions of goalies who play exactly like him. Every NHL goalie uses the butterfly some of the time, thanks to Roy. The fact that he was as successful as he was and a major innovator is why he'll always be set apart from the Brodeurs, Haseks, Richters, and Vernons of his era.

Roy is statistically the greatest goalie in the game to date.You cannot argue that.

Not only does he have 4 cups under his belt (2 with the Av's and 2 with the Habs), but he invented the butterfly style ( The same style that you arrogant Wings fans watch ozzie use)

His final year with the Av's, he had a .925 save pct.

ok lets settle this once in for all...stats cups win are all stats that make ur career great...pleanty of goalies had great careers and plenty of goalies had a single year better than roy..but why is he the best on reason..he changed the game..u wouldnt have goaltending the way it is today without this guy that is why he is the greatest..Broduer is the best at what he did his style his system..Roy changed the way the position was played..just like grezkty changed the game

I think Patrick Roy's best moment was in games 6 & 7 of the 2002 Conference Finials, game 6 when he lifted his glove. "Oops the puck aint in my glove." said Roy "It's a 1-0 hockey game. Or game 7 when he got pulled half way the game cuz he gave up 6 goals. All this lead to DETROIT REDWINGS 2002 STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!
