@FreeStylesEnt Yes, I would like to re-clarify. That permission is key. Or Ownage, or Administrative rights of a network, you are allowed to do whatever you want to your system. That also goes for a port scanning. It has been proven on several occasions that even port scanning is also illegal. A company can drum charges against you for something as little as port scanning, and calling it a full blown done against them.

@FreeStylesEnt I would like to state, that goes for any type of security involvement. Unless someone has given explicit permission, to perform these tests then you will be violating the law. If you want to know how to perform attacks without getting caught, then I highly suggest creating a sandbox in your own home.

@colin8696908 Yes, I believe you are right. Scanning is not the crime, but generally a port scan does wake the neighbors!

Actually, Nmap works both for Internal and External IP's. I guess the ethical thing to say is, you should not do external computers, unless you had permission. Whereas home networks are your systems, and you have free reign.

Well, that is a nice movie magic trick. But I tell you today. You do not need 10 computers to run each OS. Just use some VMware, and you can pull of a similar trick.

I'm using mobile broadband, my default gateway's are all blank apart from one which is just 0.0.0.0.

It also has my IPv4 address and Subnet Mask.

Which do I need to use?

If somehow you are using mobile broadband. Chances are, you are not going to see the gateway, because that would be the ISP. So the IP, would be the IP that you have now, and convert that into a IP range to scan. For more advice contact me, I will be more than happy to answer the questions.
