this song is so awesome i signed up for solo ensemble and this is what my teacher picked for in chorus but i now still have to wait for the cd and my band music in ensemble and i just in middle school
I have sung this song when I was about twenty in Thailand and now I sing to my grand daughter who is two month old in Weybridge, UK. It's 40 years ago. I love this song so much and my Laura also.
Wonderful song! It reminds me to great times in Scotland in the seventies / early eighties. We used to sing it when we went over from Kyle of Lochalsh to Kyleakin by ferry. I just now read there's a bridge now. It would definitely not be the same feeling just to drive there by car. I'm feeling a bit sentimentally sad at the moment.
i loved thise song and still do i sang it to a little english speaking 4 year old japanese boy i was baby sitting hed been crying and i sang him to sleep it sent me to sleep at that age and worked its magic agein so thats another culture knowing of thise song now
My grannie used to sing this all the time.. Shes buried now in Fife, I miss her.. Im now playing in a Scot / Irish bar once a month with a Irish guy in USA.. Im gonna do this one for grannie..Also gonna post her singing soon too with a local Fife acordion player named Jim donaldson I think. We tapped them when she was in her 80s and she still sounded good. Gonna put our stuff up too ,,Watch for it soon...
Wow. Very catchy

Speed little boat like a bird on the wing
onward the sailors cry
carry the lad that was born to be king
over the see to skye.
Loud the wind howls loud the waves roar
thunder clouds rend the air baffled our foes
stand by the shore follow they will not dare.
tho the waves leap soft she ye sleep
oceans a royal bed
rockd in the deep flora will keep watch by your weary head

Many's the lad fought on that day
Well the claymore could wield
When the night came, silently lay
Dead on Culloden's field
Burned are our homes, exile and death
Scatter the loyal men
Yet, e'er the sword cool in the sheath,
Charlie will come again.
