Extreme newbie question here... I just got my guitar a couple days ago and I'm trying to get some basics down before my classes start up this August... I can't really tell what is supposed to happen first: Are you meant to push the string down before or after you've plucked it? Or is it simultaneous? Thanks, man.
Hmm, I have been playing guitar for just over a year, I am left handed and playing right handed guitars. I have been pretty confident in my playing until now, when I see little progress in lead aspects of my playing, like picking co-ordination and scale speed. This is giving me doubts in my choice of playing a right handed guitar. Anyone have any advice to me, should I keep going in the hopes that I get better with my co ordination and speed or sell my guitars and re invest in left handed ones?
thank you for those last words,is exactly what is happening to me,all day I do exercises and don't play any song,I can't do the thing that I could when I played songs and all that, now I now there should be a balance,so again thank you
@invisiblecrowe it might be that you are pressing too hard on the strings/guitar action is too high. When practicing, try and find out the "threshold" of how LIGHT you can press the strings while still getting unmuted sounds. This will improve the duration of play and will also improve your playing speed as tension in your fingers wont be as high = more movement.
ok so this might not be the best place for my question but i´m gonna ask it anyway. I´ve been playing guitar for eight-nine years now and still when i do bar chords like Gm on the third fret or whatever, my left hand is getting tired quickly and starts to hurt. I´m holding my left hand right - or so i think -, but my fingers are not really long. what should I do with that, Sage?
Thanks bro. I can't wait for my finger tips to be a sore; burning blend of pink, purple, and red that turn white when I press them together. (} :] By the way... thats a man with a unibrow complemented by a stunning mu-stash grinning in great praise of your swell video.
WOW! I can tell you this is the hardest thing I have ever tried to do. I have never been able to do the Vulcan sign but maybe after doing this for awhile I will be able to. I have to say that I have your ebook and you have taught me so much for so very little. Thank you for taking the time to do this.
thanks for taking the time to make this video. it's good stuff. the bottom line is work ethic and desire for excellence. so few people are willing to do what it really takes to be a truly good musician.
@yourguitarsage yeah i know. through the double edged sword of technology and of course the superficial media and reality tv garbage society that we now live in, as a whole people are just getting more and more lazy, unthinking, unambitious, nondiscerning, etc....
anymore so many people (especially young) are nothing but walking reactions without a scintilla of critical thinking ability.
in talking about music, sadly it's become more about being an artist than the actual art itself.
@anewdayproductions Sadly yes. My hope is that competition will always breed some winners. Right, it has too!? Please God, tell me it will...I don't know how it can't. You can only skate for free for so long before they pull you off the ice.
@yourguitarsage i really only see things as getting worse to be honest. it's simply a sign of the times in which we live.
have you ever noticed how so many people give instant credibility to those who praise them or give them "positive" feedback, but to those who criticize them they arbitrarily discount or at the very least artistic relativism comes into play........ it's total hypocrisy. popularity or "success" is never a reflection of the quality of the art, rather its audience.

Is there any chance you could make any theory videos? The little theory that I've learned in the passed few months has helped my playing 1000 times.

@ShaneTube23 Go to my homepage. I have a whole playlist on theory.

@anewdayproductions You are 100% accurate. It's frustrating when folks want all the glory with none of the guts.

@anewdayproductions who cares about what other people are doing? All that matters is that YOU know you have the dedication.
