@torontothegood i would just attach a chain to the back of my truck and try to pull then out from the rear but dont attack it to the balls bc iv had them rip right out when i was trying to pull. personally i wouldent use those tires i have but they arnt that great. right now i use super swampers and they are great i never get stuck unless there is a huge sink hole that is almost imposable to get out of all together
@strapinhotpockets You can do some pretty serious wheeling in the modified Libertys you see in the video. We've done trails rated 8/10 in Colorado which lets you do 95% of the trails here. But if you want something that you can easily lift 6" and run 35" tires then get one of the other two. You can do a Solid Front Axle for a Liberty to get huge lift and tires over 33" but it will cost you $5k+/- to do it.
@kugellagers Here's a good idea just don't buy a liberty! Buy like a Cherokee or a Wrangler! 2 off the best off road platforms ever built with the exception of the CJ which can almost fall under the same category as the Wrangler had Chrysler not gotten a hold of the Jeep name! Part's are a lot cheaper easier to work with and just plain better!
I have a 2002 Liberty myself, and I must say that I get a lot of shit for it, but I've taken it through sand, mud, and up hills that the bigger SUVs and trucks cant. Even had all 4 wheels spinning in Part Time 4Hi going up a 60 degree slope.
@Tj1056 Actually the reason you don't want to use rocks in this type of deep mud is it would be completely hidden under the mud and could cause big time damage to the next guy who unwittingly goes throught the mud.
@kugellagers well unless you are talking about a like 200 pound rock it wouldnt really make a difference from normal 4x4 because a hole like that could already have a rock in it :p
i have to stick up for the liberty i thought it was the soccer moms 4x4 until my wife got one. The 3.7 v6 is stout as a son of a bitch and for not having diff locks it has done pretty good to not be a 3wd. It may not have the suspension travel of the wrangler because it is more highway oriented but on the trail it would give a wrangler a run for its money. I know i have seen it do it.
I love the ignorance and arrogance of the people saying "ZOMG WRANGLERS R TEH ONLY JEEPZ 4 DA OFFROAD!!!" There are plenty of videos of Liberty drivers pulling Wranglers out of water, mud, sand, etc.
Have any of you EVER taken a Liberty offroad or been with one offroad? Very capable and outperforms a lot of other 4x4s.
Do some research before you open your yap. Better yet, get some first hand experience.
It's funny how all you wrangler and Cherokee buffs think you're all so cool and tough, but the sad truth is, all of them are made in China by some wimpy little Asians. So take that stupid attitude and actually base your opinions based on quality not your stuck up little attitudes.
@Leontius I love Jeeps. But I'm not gonna love a wrangler just because it is a wrangler or hate liberties just because its a liberty. Look at the context of my comment and you will understand the point I am trying to make. Oh and btw my 360 durango is not made in China.

@92XJlaredo you seem to know a great deal of information on what power the Biebs voice has on a male and grape fruit. I put money on the idea you own a plastic jeep!
Libbys are quite capable on the trail, I mean we can't throw 35's on sure but then again we don't have to PAY for 35's neither. I hit mud like that once in my libby and hit a rock in it, got lucky and got over it.
Hey can anyone help me. I have a trail rated jeep liberty with 17 inch rims but with road tires. I am really looking for some nice off road tires i believe that a 15 inch would be better for off roading and there are more tire choices for that size. @americanmonster1 ...which would mean explorers, blazers, navigators, and other non-hardcore offroad vehicles included. Sure they should stay away from class 5 trails, but they do fine offroad. Your wrangler (if you have one, i dont really care to know) is a better wheeler, but the liberty can do much more in everyday life (wheeing, kid toting, soccer mom stuff, grocery getting, long drives, quiet driving, cheaper to own etc). Clarifications from video comments. Blue has ARB rear locker and I believe a DTT front. Gold has DTT front and rear? I forget. White has ARB lockers in both front and rear. Yeah KJs are supposed to be crap but they re pretty capable in the forms you see here - you all would be very surprised. The XJ used tp get the same flames as the KJ....Blah blah blah! etc...

There are some concerns that the 3.7 can sludge up over time, but mine has 149,500 miles on it with NO problems,, I use Mobile 1 extended mileage oil with changes ever ~10,000 miles.
come on really the Liberty is the saddest excuse for a jeep like its really not a jeep its a P.O.S go for the 97 grand cherokee i know mines never steered me wrong
@bordercollie62 I'd say go for any jeep that's pre 1996. I do love the old GCs But Chrysler started making their jeeps cheaply after 96 or so. If you want a tough jeep that will never let you down on the trails you gotta go with an 87-96 XJ or a YJ or a Commanche. And everything before those... Jeeps were less plastic and more steel then aswell as better engines/powertrains
@Tarzan07330 not really liberty's are pretty good offroading. but yes there not as capable as the wrangler but there the next best thing for the same year as a wrangler. if that liberty had a lift with mud tires, it would have prob gone through that with no problem
I have a Liberty and I love it. I wouldn't call it luxurious and I am not a yuppie (young urban professional). I have mine because i live in Wisconsin and it is great in the snow and we do a lot of backwoods camping where we have to ride some pretty bad trails to get to where we camp and it does great. It doesn't have the clearence to do what other jeeps can do but it's not a complete pussy either. Please don't over-generalize things like that. Fuck.
calm down. it's just my opinion. i don't hate em. they're still a jeep. but i would not consider it an off road vehicle like the others. yeah, it can handle some off road. but nothing like the others.
the only difference that i can see, is like he said, cosemetic. the bumpers and fenders are the same body color. and the interior, i havent seen a liberty limited yet without leather seats
@1989XJ There is a solid axle swap for these, and they can wheel very well. Not light like a CL/YJ/TJ, but like a cherokee. Frames are strong enough too...AllJ offroad does swaps for those interested. They're in LA area
@ds1919ds1919 yea i know a few guys who have gone SAS in the Liberty but its just not worth it IMO when i can pick up something that already has a solid front axle and put my money into other things instead of swapping an axle
@1989XJ An XJ? Your gonna come on here and badmouth someone's liberty and then telk great about your XJ? I remember when xj's came out, they were thought of then as liberty's are now. Liberty's and cherokee's were both built heavily biased towards pavement, and at least the liberty is comfortable to drive. The old xj's suck on and off road, are uncomfortable, get terrible fuel mileage, and have chrysler's 80's inspired k-mart plastic interior. They haven't built a jeep since '86.
@caniwitech your kidding right and need to relax a little...the XJ is damn near unstoppable in stock form, and if you want a comfortable riding vehicle you shouldnt by a jeep.....you sound more fit for a libby as for the most part they are pretty much like a car i didnt buy the XJ for a comfortable ride and bling interior i bought it for its capabilities, as for the straight six the things has loads of power and again i couldnt give a shit bout the gas mileage cause again it does what i want
@1989XJ Unstoppable? The dana 30 front axle is a ticking time bomb, both the manual and the auto are junk those years, the vacuum actuated 4x4 is extremely problematic, and the whole car is junk if the unibody gets bent. I miss anything? Oh yeah, plagued with electrcal problems. I just said that both kj and xj were made for the street, and the kj does better. The xj sucks at everything. And my personal jeep, since you asked, is a '79 cj7 with the 304. I do agree, the 4.0 is a great engine.
@caniwitech spoken like the ignorant fool i assumed you were, ive beat the shit outta my D30 and its still ticking, ive never heard of an issue with the AX15 the AW4 goes for ever and i can vouch for that cause ive overheated twice but being a toyota transmission its built to last the vacuum actuated 4x4 only came on standards and is a five minute fix... i will give you that the first 2 years of the XJ were crap because they put a GM engine and electrical in it but they got rid of that ASAP.
uh, yeah, I know you can, thats why I stated the second half of my comment with periods. The "what" was an incredulous response to another comment, which I do not see anymore.
legit thats funny i agree with you it you wanted a good 4x4 i would have bought the wrangler. but for what you got....... drive that peice of shit like you stole it
Whoo! Wheee! And living in your moms basement playing with Banthas and storm troopers is way cooler. Can you say Imperial Troll? Or is that bantha poodoo?
You guys have obviously never gone wheeling with any sort of Liberty - built or otherwise. If you had you would be surprised at its capabilities off-roading. No it's no rock buggy; but they will and regularly do keep up with everyone else on 95% of the wheeling trails in Colorado...and Colorado has some of the best wheeling in the country.
Hummers suck u should have had a jeep wangler ther better for this stuff i should know cuz i drove one in worse stuff then that try 3 feet of mud yep i made it out
Can't take a hummer on a lot of the trails out here...way too big (wide, heavy or poor turning radius)...Jeeps, Toyotas, Samurais, range rovers fit the bill.
jeeps arent even good ON the road, take the hint. my range rover stock woulda got through that, cuz i have gone through worse even while being high centered.... yea jeeps just arent built for that, i borrowed a girls fully loaded liberty 4x4 put new tires on and it got stuck on a power line trail.... lol good luck guys. as long as its dirty when ur done it was worth it.
uuuuummmmm...The Range Rover is NOT very good in mud buddy. How do I know?...well, we've had one. Great on the trails climbing hills...terrible in mud. Its not a mud SUV. I'm not downtalking your range rover, i'm just being honest. It's not made for the mud.
i take mine in mud often, the large range is good in mud, the sport supercharged realllly sucks off road esp in the mud. but i have taken my Range HSE through mud that wranglers with big tires and 4x4 and everything else had just gotten stuck in. trails are more enjoyable tho.

If you want a tough jeep that will never let you down on the trails you gotta go with an 87-96 XJ or a YJ or a Commanche. And everything before those... Jeeps were less plastic and more steel then aswell as better engines/powertrains
xScHwInNBMXx 2 years ago
if the jeep really has lockers what a waste of money. I mean a liberty really.
willus1000 2 years ago
liberties aren't made for that shit. they're luxury jeeps for yuppies.
Tarzan07330 2 years ago
@Tarzan07330 not really liberty's are pretty good offroading. but yes there not as capable as the wrangler but there the next best thing for the same year as a wrangler. if that liberty had a lift with mud tires, it would have prob gone through that with no problem
killapawner 2 years ago
anything lifted with mudders are pretty good offroad. i stand with my opinion.
Tarzan07330 2 years ago
I have a Liberty and I love it. I wouldn't call it luxurious and I am not a yuppie (young urban professional). I have mine because i live in Wisconsin and it is great in the snow and we do a lot of backwoods camping where we have to ride some pretty bad trails to get to where we camp and it does great. It doesn't have the clearence to do what other jeeps can do but it's not a complete pussy either. Please don't over-generalize things like that. Fuck.
kingv911 2 years ago
calm down. it's just my opinion. i don't hate em. they're still a jeep. but i would not consider it an off road vehicle like the others. yeah, it can handle some off road. but nothing like the others.
Tarzan07330 2 years ago
I was impressed that you guys chose not to put the rock under the tire realizing it may be a hazard to someone else.

are libertys limited and liberty sport different???
wat maks them different??
ThePapito1234 2 years ago
nothing, the 3.7L sport is identical to the limited, the difference is mostly cosmetic
lanstylez 2 years ago
the only difference that i can see, is like he said, cosemetic. the bumpers and fenders are the same body color. and the interior, i havent seen a liberty limited yet without leather seats
thelastcowboy1988 2 years ago
Yes..I have the Sport..Bigger tires, and a bit higher..Limited is the "luxury" jeep
Russell042 2 years ago
Nope.. the Limited has, from the factory, more ground clearance than the sport, because the sport has lower profile tires... AT LEAST THE EARLY KJ's
chili4x4 2 years ago
gotta give ya props for atleast wheelin the libby as hopeless as it is.....ill keep my cherokee though
1989XJ 2 years ago 6
@1989XJ There is a solid axle swap for these, and they can wheel very well. Not light like a CL/YJ/TJ, but like a cherokee. Frames are strong enough too...AllJ offroad does swaps for those interested. They're in LA area
ds1919ds1919 1 year ago
@ds1919ds1919 yea i know a few guys who have gone SAS in the Liberty but its just not worth it IMO when i can pick up something that already has a solid front axle and put my money into other things instead of swapping an axle
1989XJ 1 year ago
@1989XJ An XJ? Your gonna come on here and badmouth someone's liberty and then telk great about your XJ? I remember when xj's came out, they were thought of then as liberty's are now. Liberty's and cherokee's were both built heavily biased towards pavement, and at least the liberty is comfortable to drive. The old xj's suck on and off road, are uncomfortable, get terrible fuel mileage, and have chrysler's 80's inspired k-mart plastic interior. They haven't built a jeep since '86.
caniwitech 1 year ago
@caniwitech your kidding right and need to relax a little...the XJ is damn near unstoppable in stock form, and if you want a comfortable riding vehicle you shouldnt by a jeep.....you sound more fit for a libby as for the most part they are pretty much like a car i didnt buy the XJ for a comfortable ride and bling interior i bought it for its capabilities, as for the straight six the things has loads of power and again i couldnt give a shit bout the gas mileage cause again it does what i want
1989XJ 1 year ago
@1989XJ Unstoppable? The dana 30 front axle is a ticking time bomb, both the manual and the auto are junk those years, the vacuum actuated 4x4 is extremely problematic, and the whole car is junk if the unibody gets bent. I miss anything? Oh yeah, plagued with electrcal problems. I just said that both kj and xj were made for the street, and the kj does better. The xj sucks at everything. And my personal jeep, since you asked, is a '79 cj7 with the 304. I do agree, the 4.0 is a great engine.
caniwitech 1 year ago
@caniwitech spoken like the ignorant fool i assumed you were, ive beat the shit outta my D30 and its still ticking, ive never heard of an issue with the AX15 the AW4 goes for ever and i can vouch for that cause ive overheated twice but being a toyota transmission its built to last the vacuum actuated 4x4 only came on standards and is a five minute fix... i will give you that the first 2 years of the XJ were crap because they put a GM engine and electrical in it but they got rid of that ASAP.
1989XJ 1 year ago
@1989XJ To each his own i guess.Enjoy your jeep and keep wheelin'!

MDizzel16 3 years ago 3
You guys have obviously never gone wheeling with any sort of Liberty - built or otherwise. If you had you would be surprised at its capabilities off-roading. No it's no rock buggy; but they will and regularly do keep up with everyone else on 95% of the wheeling trails in Colorado...and Colorado has some of the best wheeling in the country.
kugellagers 3 years ago
bud on the video claims it has a rear and front locker...thats the only way it would keep up with a rubicon, Obviously...

wey, agarras una pala, cavas para hacerle paso a las llantas, y avanzas...
Ke tan complicado puede ser???
.....
SgtoSousuke 3 years ago
La utilización de una correa de remolque para sacarlo era sólo 5 minutos del tiempo y era muy fácil. La utilización de una pala para desenterrar 70 cm del barro tomaría un mucho mucho más largo.
kugellagers 3 years ago

trail rated for the mall ill stick to my hummer:)
07blkCobalt 4 years ago
Can't take a hummer on a lot of the trails out here...way too big (wide, heavy or poor turning radius)...Jeeps, Toyotas, Samurais, range rovers fit the bill.

jeeps arent even good ON the road, take the hint. my range rover stock woulda got through that, cuz i have gone through worse even while being high centered.... yea jeeps just arent built for that, i borrowed a girls fully loaded liberty 4x4 put new tires on and it got stuck on a power line trail.... lol good luck guys. as long as its dirty when ur done it was worth it.
bmwhottieboi 4 years ago
uuuuummmmm...The Range Rover is NOT very good in mud buddy. How do I know?...well, we've had one. Great on the trails climbing hills...terrible in mud. Its not a mud SUV. I'm not downtalking your range rover, i'm just being honest. It's not made for the mud.
MrBashian 4 years ago
i take mine in mud often, the large range is good in mud, the sport supercharged realllly sucks off road esp in the mud. but i have taken my Range HSE through mud that wranglers with big tires and 4x4 and everything else had just gotten stuck in. trails are more enjoyable tho.
bmwhottieboi 4 years ago
a liberty isnt really a jeep. if i put lockers in my jeep i could follow you anywere.
