When this album first came out I was quite ill and hadn't been able to leave the house for about a month. A friend gave me this CD and this song made me weep. It don't know what it's talking about, but it's the first time I've ever had such a powerful emotional reaction to music. I haven't seen 127 hours, but I think it's cool that it was in the movie! The world needs more Sigur Ros.
@panostsak I just watched 127 hours yesterday, and I already knew this song and loved it. Ooh my, I totally cried when I watched that scene combined with this song. It's awefully amazing!
It's not "talking" about anything. The lyrics of Sigur Ros are nonsensical. They goal is to induce exactly what happened to you. The listener is left to make their own interpretations on what the music means to them. And I don't know what 127 hours is either, but I'm shocked and delighted to see that such an obscure band is getting the accolades they deserve.
They are one of the best late 90's early 00's bands, but they're also very obscure. They've been played on 120 minutes maybe twice out of 12 videos, and if you asked 20 people who they are, 19 wouldn't have a clue or would confuse them with another band.
Oh, and every song you've listed except Staralfur is from an album after the 2000's and Staralfur was released as a single in January of 2000.
@diedahero Yes that's what I'm saying... the naughties = 2000-2009
And You're right about the 1 in 20, but to me, that's a pretty significant factor really; the deal you usually get is that everyone knows their songs, but not the bands name, but i would consider everyone to be aware of them if they knew one of their songs: most popular really would be hoppipolla probably.. I still wouldn't say they're obscure, but then again, i'm a bit of a sceptic so I do apologise for my pickiness on words :P
Fair enough, I'm just going by what my little brother friend's would think, (They're jocks and Preppie dudes) and when we went on a road trip to New Orleans for a bachelor party and out of the 20+ that were there one other person knew who they were. Everyone else kept confusing them with Sugar Ray, which was depressing in it's own way.
And sorry about the naughties confusion, I thought that was just some slang I was unfamiliar with for the nineties.
@diedahero haha yeah, I guess the 'naughties' expression is a bit more common here in the UK. And yes... that is fairly depressing if they're mixing up Sugar ray with sigur ros... :S
@azikerone sigur ros music... the very best.... not 127 hours... Sigur Ros are, and forever will be the most individual, modest, and inspiring band that i'll personally ever see... to see a band so at home with music and life, is quite a pleasure... one could never thank them for the inspiration they give from sharing what they have... just amazing... :) so Sigur Ros... not a movie that sampled it :)
I WAS HALF WAY THROUGH LIKE A DEEP EMPATHIC JOURNEY WITH MY MATE, AND WE WERE PROPER TRAVELLING DEEP IN TO OUR MINDS WITH THIS SONG AND I WAS WAITING FOR THE BRASS TO PROPERLY KICK IN, AND THEN BAM! MY DREAMS ARE TARNISHED AND SHATTERED.
On the other hand, i could so just click the other link with the pretty video and watch it again...
@TheJacksterman the lowlands festival was recorded and i think they put a DVD of it up somewhere but its IMPOSSIBLE to find ive been looking for ages with no luck.

That is the big problem with live music and especially with Sigur Rós. The vibe and feelings that you feel are never a 100% translated to a video or recording..
Still. This is an amazing live video and gets the job done for about 50-75% (brings back soo many happy feelings and memories)
If anybody sees this video without having seen Sigur Rós live. Go see them before you make a crazy comment! :-P :-P :-P
P.S. Lowlands is a great festival!!! (Them Crooked Vultures??)
it's sad i know... but i have to agreed with 222 phobos.
They just, well... they are not THEM anymore. Their music has changed, their image has changed... they are no the five minimalistic youngmen they used to be ten years ago. It really hurts me. :s...
Yes, but they wanted to change their a little like many artists do (Keane for example) now this sounds like Takk and Hvarf/heim combined. It's not bad its just a little change more acoustic. But if its compared to the ( ) album or with Von there's a big difference, but a least is Sigur Ros and that means "Beautifulness" or not? : )
yeah, my friend saw sigur a couple months ago and said there were people crying everywhere.
