Yes they are, but very rare in the us.

by the way, the original can be a cooper also.

The Mini wasn't killed by BMW, they invested millions to keep it going as the post 1996 Mpi version - what was killing the mini was falling sales (down to 11,695 in 1999 and 7,070 in 2000) and Euro safety legislation. By this point the wooden dashed, airbagged, leather seated sportpacked model that was being produced contradicted all the original principles of the Mini well enough - in fact as soon as you fitted a radio in any Mini you contradicted Issigonis' vision so lets get the facts right!
