  • Holy shit... that was the funniest Oscar speech I've ever heard.

  • Taught Clint Eastwood everything he knows

  • normally people say: I thank him and I thank her, Jack just tells a very funny story as if he isn't talking to a hall full of people

  • Ah, Jack Palance what a class act! :)

  • He went on and fathered five children later that night.

  • damn still good shape for a old man

  • CURLY!

  • cash and tango, tango and cash these two cops are driving me crazy.lol

  • i loved city slickers!

  • Greatest Oscar speech ever.

  • that was odd , I see Mr. Jack Palance burning around in a parking lot in Surrey , B.C. Canada around 2001 / 2002 I imagine and I'm just heading home from the market with hunk of margarine(?) to watch Mr Scarface .

  • RIP Jack Palance. You were awesome.

  • I love the way he reacts, as if he's thinking, 'Oh really, ok I'll have it if no one else wants it'.

  • Hehe, more like a one arm tricep lockout with momentum :D

  • I think he should've won for one of his earlier movies. I didn't really think much of Tommy Lee Jones in JFK. I really didn't think that he really stole any of the scenes he was in. I also think it's bogus that his name is like 2nd in the beginning credits when he's only in the movie for a few scenes. I honestly would've given the nomination to Gary Oldman in that movie.

  • god what a hardass.

  • Fantastic actor!! One of the best acceptance speeches.

  • This guy was actually my Grandpa's cousin. Cool to learn that relatives can do one armed pushups in their 70's :D

  • @silentsniperrr he was 68 at the time, not 70.

  • @Glitchesftw - that's not true. Palance was born on February 18, 1919. This was March of 1992. Palance had just turned 73.

  • "Billy Cristal. I crap bigger than him!" Classic!

  • SLAVA UKRAINI

  • I love that the aged actors up for the award were obviously genuinely happy for Palance when they said his name. Sportsmanship ftw.

  • "Billy Crystal, God...I crap bigger than him!"...What a line to open with, lol...Jack, the man, seems to have been a comedian...He was hilarious!...Jack Palance looks like he didn't give a damn about what anyone thought about him...He was a true tough guy, on an off screen...Vladimir was his name...Jack was of Ukranian descent, I didn't know that...He and Lee Van Cleef were true tough guys.

  • Can somebody do a one-armed pushup?

  • @TheKotone1984

Sure, it's possible for some people to do one-armed pushups. Bruce Lee was able to do them using only his thumb and index finger (though at the time he was less than 1/3 of Jack Palance's age in this video) ;-)

  • He should have also won for Tango and Cash.

  • I love old guys who never lose their edge - not all soft, broken in, bitter, unhealthy and complaining.

  • Jack was 73 at the time in 1992.

  • Way to go dude!

  • Class act and one of a kind.

  • i do REAL one armed push ups and im 11

  • @gamestomaX too bad you'll never have an Oscar

  • yeah, maybe they should have said "and the oscar goes to Vladamir Paluski"

  • Back when movies didn't have to be based on liberal talking points and non-issues to be nominated for an Oscar.

  • Very cool! But did he say "S*n of a b*tch" in the end? ;-)

  • Loved those movies! And I remember this scene when it was first aired on tv, it rocked! RIP Jack Palance, awesome actor!

  • Chuck Norris is Jack Palance's apprentice!

  • hell of an actor not many like him is missed

  • Comment removed

  • love to see a Movie film made about Jack Palance - here a Wiki bit of info ----Palance's rugged face, which took many beatings in the boxing ring, was said to have become disfigured while bailing out of a burning B-24 Liberator bomber during a training flight over southern Arizona during world war II.

The fact it took him 42 years in films to get an oscar is somewhat criminal, given they give them to 30 old year actors these days. The guy is a legend, just like james stewart. Real film stars

  • amazing

  • Jack Palance, was a fine actor, and a underrated one at that.

  • Great actor, and not just at playing sneering villains because of is looks, he,s adept at playing characters of great warmth, humour, and understanding, and never fully, i feel, given the recognition he deserves, he was a fine actor. with quite a fine body of work, both in Hollywood, the UK and particually, European films.

  • One of the best oscar speeches ever and I don't think he directly thanked a single person.

  • This is sooooooooo unique and one of the best Oscar winning things ever!

Better then the same old crap of "I wanna thank blah blah blah!"

He didn't thank anybody, which wasn't boring and was awesome!

  • should have been tommy lee jones for jfk, idk why the academy gave him the oscar for the fugitive 2 years later

  • abe lincoln at 0:22!!

  • @BenLongman even he had to see it to believe it

  • @BenLongman HAHAHAHAHAHA! xD

  • That man made old cool. Rest in Peace, Mr. Palance.

  • Other fun facts about Jack Palance:

He looks kind of weird because he had his face burnt off in World War 2.

He was a pro boxer with 15 consecutive wins.

He was briefly a country musician, and wrote/performed the classic song, "The Meanest Guy That Ever Lived."

In the very next Oscars Billy Crystal came on stage riding a giant Oscar statue that Jack Palance was pulling with his teeth.

He was a prolific landscape painter and poet, and published a book of poetry titled "The Forests of Love."

  • @PrezPendejo that story about his face being burt off in ww2 is a load of crap. he said this himself. im sure you can find the quote somewhere if you research it.

he did have a military training accident in america. but his grisled looks are from his boxing career and are probably partly genetic.

  • @StevieWondersWhy24

His looks are from his Russian/Native American background; hope that helps on the trivia front

  • @bratrat He's is not at all Russian/American...He's Ukrainian. His parents are both from Western Ukraine---Lviv and Ternopil.

  • @ukerkater

    I stand corrected...thank you. =)

  • "Doesn't matter whether she's there or not...."

    Classic!

    RIP, Sir.

  • Jack Palance = legend!

  • when I grow up, I wanna' be Jack Palance

  • Jack Palance was a legend. RIP

  • Best bad guy ever !

  • looks like hes humping the ground, but hes old so its cool

  • nice!

  • He just went up and took the piss in a good natured way, pretty funny

  • set his mouth into that sinister smiling sneer he did so well, causing his high cheekbones to become more pronounced, he looked truely "Jacked " up and evil. Was a brillant performance

  • Any body here by chance catch Jack Palance do a live TV performance { it was a live stage production for one of those early "artsy" channels} any ways he performed the lead in "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde".....tremendous play, he morphed from Dr.Jekyll to Mr. Hyde in front of your eyes without makeup, While Dr. Jekyll he maintained a calm presence, kept his facial expressions subdued and when he changed to Hyde he'd raise those eyebrows, throw back his head a bit ,

  • He's just amazing... he obviously died in his sleep, Death wouldn't have got him any other way...

  • Classic. Hey, does anyone have the presentation of the best supporting actress win from the same year? Mercedes Ruehl won for The Fisher King.

  • No offense, cause obviously he's old, but that can hardly be called pushups, anyone can do what he did

  • Poor man.

  • Cocaine is a helluva drug

  • He might be dead, but he could still kill most hollywood actors with his bare hands.

  • one of the best oscars speeches ever!

  • XD He's hardcore... but I remember him in Angel's Revenge from MST3K. Never seen City Slickers.

  • Chuck Norris' father.

  • This Oscar moment is one for the book of records!

  • BAMF

  • hell yeah!!!!!!!!

  • Im fucking 19 and cant do a "one-armed push up" this guys sure is awsome!

  • No offense, because i know he's "old as FUCK" but what he did cant even be called a pushup. Anyone can do what he did.

  • @TenguMT Oh yeah??? I'd like to see a guy with no arms or a paraplegic do a one armed pushup!

  • And Billy Crystal had a field day with this for the rest of the night.

  • I have been to Jack's ranch, I fixed his dryer when I was an appliance tech. About 12 years ago.

  • @theninja001 And i broke his toaster last week...

  • brilliant

  • Cool! Jack Palance!

  • City Slickers is underrated; Palance was brilliant.

  • @Polterguist I think Palance in general is underrated. Check out Shane (he's the best part of the movie) and Godard's Contempt. Too bad he couldn't get a couple better parts. I second that, brilliant.

  • I am truly ashamed of myself. I just joined a health club after watching this. lol

  • most youths and men can't do pushups on two arms. this old man just did a few on one and didn't break a sweat. wow

  • Even cooler then his one-armed pushups is just how non-chalant he looks when his name is announced as the winner. It's like he's saying "Oh....I won. That's cool. Oh, I suppose I better go on stage then."

  • Awesome, Jack was the fucken man

  • Jack Palance, Lee Marvin and John Garfield - the greatest tough guy actors of the silver screen.

  • They don't make 'em like Jack anymore.....

  • Film badass, family man, all around cool guy. One armed push ups at his age only proves he was twice the man I'll ever be.

  • Guy was 72 and made one handed pushups. Man. I'm pathetic.

  • @Prikaatinkenraali With you on that, man. I saw him on one talk show where he did five finger pushups(both hands). Then he did one on four, then three, and then two! Guys like him and Clint Eastwood, (even John Saxon from Enter the Dragon) are proof that you can achieve top fitness at any age.

  • @deek77 And don't forget Burt Lancaster! He was still doing the trapeze in his 70's. Yeah, this was one of the greatest OSCAR moments ever.

  • @deek77 John Saxon in Enter The Dragon? Huh? The guy was only 4 years older than Bruce Lee - so 36 when the movie was shot. Which is HALF the age Jack Palance was at these Oscars.

  • JACK PALANCE FOR THE WIN!

    This man is epic.

  • His 1956 movie "Attack!" (set during the battle of the bulge) was one of his finest performances.

  • jacks right up there whith john wayne and clint eastwood that dont make icons like these guys anymore

  • jack palance is the best actor in cowboy movies

  • Respect he´s cool!

  • Today´s Hollywood should look at this before thinking they consider themselves "Stars". Man, i bet Jack Palance, would kick any todays Model/Actor in the ass and that would be enough teach of acting class for one day.

  • A definitive ''man's man''

  • I would have loved to see the conductor's face when Palance said, "In 1949 ..." (2:11) I bet the conductor passed a brick. :)
