So I got this right... these clowns used a SINGLE Colt with an obvious defect, and then didn't repeat any of the tests with another one? I'm not saying HK's are bad guns (they're actually pretty solid)... but they too have their issues. I'd love to see this comparison done with a NUMBER of guns. Obviously if the Colt were to fail 5 times in a row, then I'd be more inclined to sway to HK for that single purpose. Though, I don't often find myself laying in kid sized swimming pools.
@TJYoung80234 Everything from the current S&W M&P-15 to the FnH M-16A4 and the Still-Armalite-built M933's will blow up after being in water.
It's just not plausible to use anything of the Armalite/Colt 'M' variant.
The Germans perfected their rifles to not allow water to seep into the barrels. The 416, GR(c, G-36 and many other variants (Including the MP-5) can function underwater/being brought up after submersion. They're great guns.
Does H&K have a new 308 chambered simi auto AR / Assualt Rifle? I know they are finishing up the H&K 417 but it shoots a NATO 7.62 x 51mm and I read on a website that you cannot fire a 308 round inside of a NATO 7.62 x 51mm chambered weapon. I think I have seen a H&K chambered in 308 as a assualt rifle, but I cannot find the weapon on their website.
you guys are idiots for buying this overpriced HK shit. I agree colt sucks as well, but buy American damnit! There are so many great manufacturers here that blow HK out of the water. I bought a Noveske several months ago and it kicks HK's ass in style, substance and funcition. HK doesn't even chrome line their barrels, suckers. Noveske double chrome lines their hammer forged barrels, as an example.
@Jcd2147 I'm not saying Germans don't make good stuff. Never in my last post did I say that, you genius. What I am saying is that colt is not that great compared to other U.S. companies, so this test can't conclude that all U.S. rifles are inferior to HK just because Colt is. Plus, you should keep your money in this country when given the option. I still maintain the mr556 is overpriced and is still inferior to my U.S. made Noveske or Knight Armament
@Sherpaful We don't buy this! We are soldiers and so this rifle is one of the best. You as a privat person don't need a rifle that shoots after diving.
This is great but really not needed unless you are a SEAL or other waterborne unit. SOF actually hate the 416, DGI guns are faster and softer shooting so they get better split times, plus it's more accurate than any piston gun. The 416 can't handle as many rounds either. During the 2010 Army rifle trials, the 416s piston melted and fused with the bolt carrier.
@Musashiprodigy I'm guessing it didn't fuse to the BCG, it probably fused inside the gas block. I don't see the op-rod and strike face getting hot enough to fuse together under any circumstances.
@Nater245689 Maybe so. It's been awhile since I read the article. All I remember is, the piston melted and fused with something. I'm sure you can find the evidence of it. It's the titanium they are using. Plus it only melted after 1000 rounds of continuous full auto fire. I bet they have corrected it, after all the Marines got the M27 IAR which is of 416 descent
@Musashiprodigy It's a 416 with an longer, probably heavier barrel. I really don't think it was the best rifle for the job, but it blends in better than the HAMR with the M16s the other guys are carrying.
@Nater245689 Yeah I think trying to replace SAWs with 416s with beta mags is a stupid idea. I'm not sure if they have made better ones but last I heard beta mags were wildly unreliable. Then again the SAW isn't a very reliable weapon, and it doesn't feed well from AR mags, so that must have affected the Marines decision.
@Musashiprodigy They dropped the high capacity mag side program, they're just using standard GI aluminum mags as far as I know. I have seen a lot of Marines carrying Magpul EMAGs (STANAG compliant). They work with the 416. The Beta isn't unreliable per say, but it's not as reliable as a standard double column magazine. They had tons of failures shooting blanks out of them, but obviously blanks malfunction a lot more than real cartridges.
@Musashiprodigy The SAW didn't feed well from older AR mags because they can't keep up with it's rate of fire. It'll feed fine from something like an EMAG. The design is quite reliable, it's just an AK operating system that's been inverted. However, the age of a lot of the weapons in service is causing problems with them. They're simply worn out.
when he done the test on the HK he didn't have on any head protection. but when he done the colt test he did have on protection as if he knew it was going to malfunction...seem odd to me.
@Shadowelement117 They knew this would happen. This test was only developed after many american soldiers being woulded just because of their equipment failing just like that.
Ever notice that tiny little hole in the back of your buffer tube? That's called a drain hole. A .22 cal bore is small enough that water has a hard time leaving the bore without it. When coming out of the water, a slight downward tip of the muzzle allows the water to flow freely out of the front of the weapon. It works fine with d.i. or gas piston weapons. I don't care what the weapon is, I don't want to shoot it with a barrel full of anything... water included.
@Spooktoymachine because it's cheap as hell to mass produce. Not a bad weapon if you can maintain it all the time like a newborn baby. Under pressure and actually combat situations, it's a sack of shit.
This video is just trying to show that in a marine environment the HK 416 ( or any other piston driven AR) is a much better weapon. That is probably the main reason the navy seals us the 416. DI guns are good as well but if they fill with water you do have the drain them were you can start shooting right away with a piston gun. They aren't saying that a Colt is a and gun, they are just showing off the advantage of their gun.
This is apparently set up considering when he shoots the rifle that blows up he wear like an iron mask but doesn't wear anything but flimsy googles for the other tests lmfao fake
Are you speaking out of personal experience? I doubt you have ever seen an HK, let alone shot one.
I personally know of a Tactical team who dumped their G36s, MP5s and UMPs because of the crappy service they received from H&K. They now use LWRC rifles in all sorts of configurations and calibers and the last I heard, they were extremely happy with their choice.
i heard too much HK sucks then this jdeusa (or how he is called)with his dawm shitty ACR.if i must choose a weapon i would take the G36 and the Colt 1911.my cousin is in the Bundeswehr and he shot alot of guns also AR15 and HK416 and his favorite weapon is the G36A2.its the most reliable he ever used he said to me.i dont know who i should believe.experts or my cousin.
@WenchesOfRedemption Yeah sure then you have preferences, and personally i prefere the HK and Glock series for pistols and rifles, that's nice yeah i know current soldiers, friends of mine who have already been doing tours in A-stan, don't judge when you don't know buddy, because i'm talking out of personnal experience with the rifle and feedback from some friends, and yes the LWRC is good, but will it go through mud, sand, water etc unscathed...i doubt it however a hk416 will
@bananasqueek yeah that is a good point but the fact that they have the money to buy the upper receivers from the hk and slip onto a lower receiver assembly is the problem, they rely to much on colt, when europeen weaponry is overflowing the market for its performances, look at 3/4 of the weapons in the US arsenal, most of them EU, but the main combat rifle used is shit...way to keep the troops safe you know...
@NSWPJ Tell that to SBS, SAS, CAG, SEALs, GROM, and SAJ operators, all probably the most elite counter-terrorism units in the world. They all use M4s over any other rifle in the world. It doesn't even make sense for GROM or SAJ to use ARs when they are surrounded by AKs. They know how superior the AR/M4 is and they want it. EAG tactical did a test where a AR/M4 went 30,000 rounds without cleaning. Almost all new rifles are based off the AR, FNs SCAR, 416, the Masada. that's not crap
@Musashiprodigy The H&K 416 is used by GROM, French Airforce and Special Units want to replace the FAMAS with it. Also used by Malasia,Turky, Norway and the Netherlands. The USA used it in the Delta Force, United States Special Operations Command, DEVGRU, US Army’s Asymmetric Warfare Group, Swat Units and the Security Service of NASA and even the Marines us it they call it M27 Infanterie Automatic Rifle.
@Revan817 Yeah I know alot of people are buying them, even some Dutch SOF unit I think. They have some pros, but the 416 is not liked by American SOF units, actually most 416s are being brought back for DGI AR/M4s. Because DGI is faster and softer shooting so they can get faster split times with them. Plus the DGI AR/M4 is the most accurate rifle we US have ever fielded, that is well documented. It just goes to show, just because one company says it's an improvement doesn't mean it is.
@Musashiprodigy lol news flash for you buddy the hk416 was developped by h&k for CAG vy their request and now DevGru uses it, also yes GROM use it, the french 1er Rpima use it some Commando Marine use it the french airforce has it as their primary Commando weapon, yeah they are all based around it because the concept is good the design is crap though yeah the 30,000 rounds without cleaning ? where in a facility or on the frontlines ? HK > Colt end of story everyone will comfirm it
@NSWPJ Look up filthy 14 EAG tactical. No CAG and DEVGRU or whatever they are called today hate the 416. A DGI AR is faster and softer shooting than the 416 because of the DGI system. Plus DGI is more accurate than any piston gun EVER. You can find all these facts quite easily. The 416 is not well liked by SOF that is well documented. If you truly believe that you have alot to learn. This test does not mean it's superior, just because he didn't drain the gas tube doesn't meant it's crap.
@NSWPJ This test should not be a ultimatum for you. SEALs taped the barrel of their M4s closed and it came out of the water shooting before they had 416s. Both have pros and cons, the 416 runs better suppressed, can handle dirt and grim better. While a DGI AR is faster/softer shooting, alot more accurate, weighs less and has less parts. It really all depends on what you want to do. Even though, it speaks for itself that most SOF are still fielding DGI ARs over the newer MK16s and 416s.
@Musashiprodigy Yes, if you tape the muzzle (absolutely required for any OTB stuff) and have the bolt forward with the dust cover up then water shouldn't get into the action or the gas tube. This test was extremely dangerous because the magical HK 416 certainly isn't immune to getting water in the bore, which would have caused it to grenade.
@Nater245689 No you have take into account that they are using the ARs ergonomics, sights, cartridge alot of the time, even though masada is a multi-caliber. Plus the Masada and MK.16 use a completely different bolt. The poin I was trying to make is, the AR-15 changed the face of the infantry rifle forever, it is closer to the perfect weapon system than any other firearm, it is unsurpassed in accuracy, handling, speed, design. It can be a SBR, SPR, rifle, DMR, carbine anything.
@Musashiprodigy Sorry, but that doesn't mean they're based on the AR-15. They're just setup that way because that is what people are used to. The SCAR and the ACR both use the AR-18 bolt, likely with a few minor differences. The bolt carrier of the SCAR differs in that the op-rod is integrated into it (like and AK) and the other rifles (G36, L85, ACR) do not do this. Anyone who's looked at it knows it's an AR-16/18 system.
@NSWPJ lemme ask you something. Have you had any expiernece with M4s or 416s? I have, I live by the gun every day of of my life. I have shot thousands of rounds thru all different kinds of AR/M4s, full auto, suppressed, SBRs, SPRs you name it I have probably shot it. I have only had one malfunction with DGI ARs and it was after many rounds all suppressed. I shot a full auto 416 once, and you can feel more recoil than your average AR because of the piston working when the gun cycles.
@Musashiprodigy anyhow comming to a conclusion, explain to me why are most world militaries replacing the m4 by the 416 if it's such crap ? oh and in my first comment i was talking about the companies and yes still colt is crap, h&k riflewise is much better, and pistol wise glock...and h&k, so yeah there you have it my, 2 cents which is also apperenetly the same for many other people including military and law enforcement. i'm out
@NSWPJ Hahaha nevermind. If you can't take anything out of what I was saying or respond to what I saying I'm done. I should have realized I'm talking to a video game commando. You have alot to learn.
@Musashiprodigy hahaha you're funny, no i get your point and i hear it, why is that just because i have a firm ponion backed up by not only trials by fire but other people wjo gave me feed back, so becasue of this i'm a "video game commando" you have no clue who i am or what i do for a living, so really don't judge, if you don't know, and yes i have a lot to learn as do we all
@NSWPJ No I know you are because you are talking out of your ass about a weapon you have never used. You dodged my questions and points. Plus you are saying things that are simply just not true.
@Musashiprodigy thought i dodged your questions out of laziness lol and anyhow no you don't know who i am so check yourself on that side, cuz i ain't udging you athough in my opinion despite the fact that you apperently have military experience or other seem narrow minded on what i am trying to tell you, and to answer your question you have no clue if i have ever shot a rifle or not so quit judging, right now i'm laughing my ass off at how you are being naive on my behaf
@Musashiprodigy lol saying things that aren't true yeah suuuuuure like what ? that h&k builds better weapons platforms that colt ? that the 416 is way more superior to the m4 in so many aspects ? that colt won't start thinking differently and stay with a rifle cencept daiting back from the 60's ? come on you're sure you want to play that game ? just because you have hands on experience on certain weapons doesn't mean you have all the rights
@NSWPJ If you think it does everything better, you know jack shit. So have you ever shot an M4? Do you know they are crap from personal experience? Are you military? You ever shot a 416? How do you know it's that much better? Or are you basing your ignorant ass opinion from this test alone? Why has the 416 failed to replace the M4/AR with SOF if it is that much better? Why did you delete your comment? Because someone who actually knows what their talking about challenged your opinion?
@NSWPJ If you haven't ever fired a AR or a HK just shut up and go back to playing halo. Your opinion means nothing if your basing it off of videos on youtube. I use and train with ARs almost everyday of my life.
@Musashiprodigy lol wow you are a naive one, yes i've fired rifles before, yes i've test fired the 416 and fired an m4 "go back to playing halo" you are outstandingly funny you know that, for your info i don't play video games, so quit judging, that's great yeah train with them everyday of your life....1 person vs a shit ton of others....yes and i' basing myself off videos on youtube ? hahaha
@Musashiprodigy my ignorance ? lol sais the one who has no clue who he is talking too, yeah sure the m4 is accurate, but i'm talking about taking the shortest barrel you got and shooting straight on a 200m range, lol as for the weapons, friends and relatives lol and i'm not in the US if that is what you want to know
@NSWPJ Are you serious? This is sad. Your are again showing your ignorance by saying something that is false. It doesn't matter what barrel length it has, a DGI M4/AR will always be more accurate than a 416. It doesn't matter if it's at 200 or 600 meters. If you live in France or almost any country in Europe, it is impossible for you to have shot a 416 or M4. As most European counties will not allow civilians to own rifle in military calibers (556 or 762) so you are lying.
@Musashiprodigy uh huh i'm lying....right...as i said once more you don't know who i am what i do or who i have connections with....so please your naive affirmations of me lying you can keep them to yourself, and you know what fuck it i've shot my share of rifles, and i find the 416 more reliable....that is all.
and you don't live in europe so i'm pretty sure you haven't got hands on experience how shit goes down over there....so really stop judging without knowing....it's sad
@NSWPJ Hahaha nice. Getting defensive because I've proved you wrong once again, and made you look foolish? Your sad. It is almost impossible for you to have shot a M4 as they are extremely rare even in the French military, or a 416. It doesn't matter what connections you have you haven't shot a 416 kid. Your full of shit. I don't have to assume anything about you, as you have lied and stated false statements again and again.
@NSWPJ I don't need to live in Europe to know that, a French civilian can't own a 416 or M4 as they they are chambered in a military caliber, so you are full of shit. Even if you have shot a 416 once that can't tell you how reliable a weapon is. You have to train with it, put a couple hundred rounds thru it, get into positions with it, to know how reliable a firearm is. This is getting pathetic, I'm tired of proving you wrong, please get a life.
@Musashiprodigy and once again as i said you know nothing of my life so please how about you stop trying to tell me what shit i have done and start thinking about what i'm god damn telling you, you don't know how many rifles i've shot or what rifles i've shot, stop being a naive prick it won't serve you well...and haha i already have a life thank you
@NSWPJ Ok if you want to continue sounding like a ignorant little boy that's cool. No need to try and impress me. Great way to avoid acknowledging I'm right and your wrong and lying. I'm done repeating myself. It's cool how you can say anything on the internet and it doesn't mean anything.
@Musashiprodigy wow really, you are full of shit i repeated to you in earlier messages that i understood your point, and oh i;m lying riiight, maybe i'm not the kind of person to rant about the shit i do for a living on internet smartass, so here i'll tell you one last time cuz this is bs i have my experience you have yours i gave you my opinion you gave yors end of fucking story now, and ps once again i'm not lying stop being a naive asshole
@Musashiprodigy oh and to answer your question tard it's called military firing range and having connections you happy have your "legit" story or do i need to prove myself even more to mister expert on everyones lives and how they are "legit: or not.
you are a failure really the fact that i have to prove myself to some random personne on youtube just because i have an opinion that many share on 2 different rifles...grow up
@NSWPJ Haha even if you shot a 416 or M4 once (which you haven't) that cannot tell you how reliable a firearm is. So again your talking out of your ass about things you have no experience with. I'm just havin fun with your ass now. It's really quite funny, especially how you just come up with stuff to defend yourself. If you had a life you wouldn't be on youtube saying things like I've shot a 416 (lie) or a 416 is more accurate than a M4 (lie) man you gonna call me sad again? Fuck off kid
@NSWPJ The fact that you feel the need to prove yourself to some random person on youtube is quite pathetic. Once I proved your statements wrong and called you out on lying, you could have taken the facts I've given you and stop makin yourself sound like some kid who has to have the last say even if it's a blatant lie
@Musashiprodigy you're full of shit, i'm a kid let lme laugh...get of my fatehrs account, bitch please i have no kids you retard, go play COD haha, you seem to know more about those things than me smartass, adn really so all the things i've done are a "blatant lie" whatever you say mister i'm right all the way and you are always wrong, and ps once again i'm not lying, hahaha i took your facts retard how about you take mine
@Musashiprodigy and really if the 416 is such crap ten why are most nato militaries buying them and throwing away the m4, and really take a look around look how many weapons the US designes and how many they use in the military, i'm sorry most wweapons you use are from Europe, and most of your weapons suck ass... get real dude, stop going all patriotic colt american style....and start being a bit real
@Musashiprodigy oh and btw yes this is lie hahaha i've shot the 416 and the m4 as well as other rifles...smartass but no you seem to know everything about everyone on the internet, stop being a moron really if i'm lying then you are just dumb... and yes i know what i am talking about
@NSWPJ Sorry to shut you down again, but some of the most influential and ground breaking firearm designs are American, that's why almost very new assault rifle is based off of the AR/M4 (MK.16/17, 416, Masada/ACR) or it's cartridge. Like the 545. Look at the weapon advances we have made. The 1911 is still used by the most elite soldiers in the world, and it's a 100 year old American design fucktard. If the 416 is so superior why do American SOF operators return them for DGI ARs.
@NSWPJ The reason everybody is buying them is it's a great weapon design made by one of the worlds best weapon manufacturers, the same people who produce the most popular SMG among counter-terrorism units. Plus it's supposed to be a improvement on the existing DGI setup. Which some SOF units don' think so. So you think because you shot a 416 and M4 once (which you didn't), you know which one is more reliable and more accurate? Ha What a joke! You have no clue what your talking about
@Musashiprodigy right yes...i'm a lying cunt listen up buddy i don't have to prove shit to you and for your info i travel a lot so maybe i'm not in fracne retard, and really i'm a lying cunt ? sais the one who has to state he is ex mil or whateer the fuck else to prove his point, you are sad and pathetic, get an education first and maybe come back with some actual arguments i've done my homework i've shot my share of firearms i don't need to prove myself to some narrow minded colt lover...sad
@Musashiprodigy and might i just add this, if the 416 is such crap....then is it being fielded as a replacement for most colt weapons out there ? huh answer me that oh maybe because it's more reliable and more accurate and the fact that weather barely affects it while operating out in the field ? and no i didn't dodge your questions or points for the questions i read them and your points i took them in account, ut why are you being so defensive about the m4 ? when it trueley is crap...
@NSWPJ Hahaha you are so ignorant or maybe just delusional. I already told you a regular, AR15/M4 made by anybody Colt, FN, BCM, anybody is faster and softer shooting, plus more accurate. They are actually the most accurate rifle the US has ever fielded. If the HK is so superior why can't it replace SOFs DGI ARs? You can find this evidence wherever, look it up kiddo. The only things the HK does better is runs longer suppressed, it can handle more dirt and grim. Why is it so much better?
@NSWPJ A training environment. CAG needed the 416 for high levels of suppressed shooting, where it's advantages over a DGI gun make up for it's disadvantages against them. What units like CAG or DEVGRU use is highly mission specific. The M4A1s and Mk 18 CWBRs are still used along with the other DGI guns like the Mk 12 SPR and the Mk 11 Mod 0.
@Nater245689 Dude EAG tactical does tactical training in harsh environments, some places are just like Afghanistan, they are rolling in the dirt, getting dirty, and pushing those guns hard. Even though you can't predict what will happen in the field, you can still make your training very realistic. Check em out, Pat Rogers knows what he doing. Hes a great instructor. yeah definitely, look at the osama raid, I heard somethe SEALs had that H&K MP7 PDW, which is pretty limited past CQB
@Musashiprodigy Those rifles are based on the AR-16/18, not the AR-15. Eugene Stoner designed the AR-16, a 7.62x51mm NATO weapon, which was later redesigned for the 5.56x45mm cartridge. The only thing in common it has with the 15 is the multi-lug bolt. Basically every Western assault rifle that has been designed since then, excluding the FN FNC (AK-style long stroke) and the FAMAS (lever delayed blowback) has used it's operating system.
@Nater245689 Which is just stupid, because it's supposed to replace something that uses 100,150, and 200 round box mags, so you get a quarter of the fire power. I guess they could use the Surefire high cap mags, they are reliable, my experience with them has been good. Even though they might interfere with going prone. Idk I think the Marines made a mistake. They should have just bought some MK.46s they are more reliable than the 249 and weigh less.
@Musashiprodigy You do know what the M249 and the Mk 46 Mod 0 are essentially the same weapon? The Mk 46 just deletes the ability to use 4179 magazines, the carry handle, and the pintle lugs. I think what the Marines is doing is very smart. The SAW was a light machine gun that had been pressed into the automatic rifle role, a role for which it was ill suited. I don't trust the Surefire mags, I've seen them fail. I think the Armatac 75rd drum would be the ideal choice.
@Nater245689 I haven't seen any failures of the Surefire mags. Last time I saw Christ Costa, he said he loved his, and had zero problems with them, and he runs his equipment very hard. Dude that setup (ergonomics) came from the AR. Yes it's what everyone is used to, but they are some of the best ergonomics that's why they borrowed them for the new desgin, so they are based on the ARs ergonomics, if not what weapon are they based off?
@Musashiprodigy Sorry, but the operating system is the heart of the weapon. They're all based on the AR-18. End of story. The AR-15 isn't the end all, be all of weapon ergonomics. It's good, it's not perfect. If it were, you won't have ambi mag release kits, BAD levers, ambi safety kits ect.
@Nater245689 I totally agree with you though, any weapon can be improved upon. Colts new CM901 will probably be one of the most efficient and perfect ARs yet.
@Nater245689 Yes, but those MK.46s are newer, made better. Other than the SAW bein very finicky and heavy, I hear it is well liked by all services. Where have you seen them fail? Video or what?
@Musashiprodigy They're not made any better, they're just the same which means quite good. FN Herstal is probably the best small arms manufacturers in the world, but they aren't miracle workers. Most of the US inventory of M249s are very old, they've been in service since the early 1990s and have huge round counts. They're simply worn out. They're not failing due to any defect in their design.
@Nater245689 Dude the 249s are unreliable, I have heard from multiple people who carried them that they fail from minimal dust getting into the feed tray. But the MK46s have better tolerances. Kid I wasn't trying to take it back to the AR18, I was simply saying that those weapons used the AR-15 (not the AR18) as a starting point for their design. yes but it is about the most perfect firearm. not perfect.
@Musashiprodigy I'm sure you could plot dissatisfaction with the M249 versus the age of the weapon issued quite accurately. The British don't have any problems with theirs, neither did the US in the 1980s and 1990s. It's only in the last five or six years that there have been wide spread problems with them.
@Nater245689 Idk, they are definitely good weapons, I know the SAS loved the early ones. but I have two friends, one who is in the CAV, the other a former Meusoc Marine. They both expressed either first hand problems or seeing problems with the 249s. Plus they aren't the only ones that I have heard that from.
@Musashiprodigy Yes, they are. The problem is, the ones the US have need to be written off. I can't even imagine the round count of a weapon, a machine gun no less, that's been in service since 1993. There are guns in circulation that probably have a million rounds through them. I think they should be replaced with the FN HAMR and the Armatac 75rd drum (assuming it works well). As far as I know, the Armatac drums don't require graphite like the Betas.
@Nater245689 Yes what is? That wouldn't be a bad replacement. I like the closed bolt to open bolt operation, don't know how reliable that is though. As an example of people having problems with 249s, I found an article in the September 2005 issue of SWAT about contractors and the author stated that the 249s his company bought were unreliable, and they bought them new. Even after replacing the questionable parts in the guns, they continued to be unreliable.
@Musashiprodigy Why don't you type "AR-18 field strip" into the search bar, then follow it with "ACR field strip" and "SCAR field strip". Then tell me those weapons are based on the AR-15 instead of the AR-18. Where the mag release is located isn't the heart of a weapon. It's operating system, however, definitely is. That said, the safety and mag release are basically identical on the -15 and -18. The differences are the charging handles and bolt catch/release.
@Nater245689 You already said that. I get it. When they were designing the weapon, they did not say, let's give it the ergonomics of the AR18 I don't know how you aren't getting this part of what I'm saying. I'm not disagreeing with you that it uses the AR18s piston design. I'm tired of dragging this on withh you
The US Army has a bunch of bureaucrats as their leaders. They are using a 40+ years old weapon system that has been shown to be prone to malfunctions when used under harsh conditions, like in the desert.
The HK 416 is a better and more reliable weapon system that could save the life of a soldier in some situations, yet what does the Army do? Buys more M4s. What a joke.
At least Delta Force is using the 416 (because it suits their requirements), which shows they don't care for the common soldier.
@Aofex maybe they get the m4s cheaper... I dont think america needs a good military, and to be frank..... apart from a couple of special forces and the armies rather high-standard gimmicks, I do not think the american army IS good. Of course it performs well in hollywood, but when I look at americas power, and the ability to field more human material then a comparable technology state... their weapons are fine.
I think the time is over where regular soldiers are very important.
@TiconderogaX Did you even watch the video? They knew it would fail due to the design of the DI system, so he wore a face mask for safety. The HK version is piston driven and they knew it would not fail in the over the beach test. What were you watching that shows socialistic rigged experiments? Go play COD.
@kuribo1 I agree, you should stick to playing COD considering your knowledge of guns...I take that back, your knowledge of corporations is in question. Hmm, a brand trying to make another brand look bad? You're right, that never happens. A flooded chamber has a good chance of absolutely nothing happening, rather than a pressure surge.
@TiconderogaX who was talking about flooded barrel? you were not me, I was talking about water in the gas tube being a problem versus water in a piston driven system. Continue playing MW3.
@TiconderogaX Yes considering America is as socialist as any other country. Post Office=Socialiism Public School=Socialism. There is nothing wrong with socialism.
@3doghowl Umm, schools are state owned. That's not socialism smart guy...And the post office is federally controlled, which is once again not socialism...I agree, in a nut shell, socialism is the ideal way to live. To bad people are courrupt, and there is no way to stop that corruption.
@TiconderogaX Oh that is adorable...Calling me names like that...And whoopdifuckingdoo with your AR-15. It's a matter of taste, and Colt failed to impress me. If I endeavor to buy an assault rifle, I'm going with the one that doesn't jam on a regular basis.
And don't do personal attacks, it just erodes your position.
@TiconderogaX Oh gee whiz, I never knew that! Thanks for enlightening me, oh great one.
How about this...Agree to disagree, move along, COD kiddies need to not comment on guns. We can both agree on that.
And before you go on another tirade of superiority, I own real firearms. Mine are of more conventional fare, so, hell, rail on me some more for owning useful tools for hunting, rather than weapons that are meant for killing man.
@TheTrueMobius1 Hahaha, I love how you prove your stupidity. I NEVER said colt was better, frankly that's a matter of opinion. I'm simply pointing out the obvious, which you seem to be unable to grasp. A competitor will make their rivals gun look bad on a comparison video, DUHHH. To say it could not possibly be rigged to explode is just fucking stupid. Freakin' fan boys.
@TiconderogaX And yet even the American military stated that the M4/M16 assault rifles jam up way too often.
That's the point I'm making. It's not a biased showing, it's a field test the DoD actually puts prototypes through to determine the next main assault weapon of the US military.
The M4 finished dead last, about 3 times worse than the 3rd place competitor. To say that the receiver was rigged is a flawed accusation when the DoD backs up the M4 failures.
Awesome, thanks ya'll

So I got this right... these clowns used a SINGLE Colt with an obvious defect, and then didn't repeat any of the tests with another one? I'm not saying HK's are bad guns (they're actually pretty solid)... but they too have their issues. I'd love to see this comparison done with a NUMBER of guns. Obviously if the Colt were to fail 5 times in a row, then I'd be more inclined to sway to HK for that single purpose. Though, I don't often find myself laying in kid sized swimming pools.
TJYoung80234 6 days ago

Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@Musashiprodigy I'm guessing it didn't fuse to the BCG, it probably fused inside the gas block. I don't see the op-rod and strike face getting hot enough to fuse together under any circumstances.
Nater245689 2 weeks ago
@Nater245689 Maybe so. It's been awhile since I read the article. All I remember is, the piston melted and fused with something. I'm sure you can find the evidence of it. It's the titanium they are using. Plus it only melted after 1000 rounds of continuous full auto fire. I bet they have corrected it, after all the Marines got the M27 IAR which is of 416 descent
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@Musashiprodigy It's a 416 with an longer, probably heavier barrel. I really don't think it was the best rifle for the job, but it blends in better than the HAMR with the M16s the other guys are carrying.
Nater245689 2 weeks ago
@Nater245689 Yeah I think trying to replace SAWs with 416s with beta mags is a stupid idea. I'm not sure if they have made better ones but last I heard beta mags were wildly unreliable. Then again the SAW isn't a very reliable weapon, and it doesn't feed well from AR mags, so that must have affected the Marines decision.
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@Musashiprodigy They dropped the high capacity mag side program, they're just using standard GI aluminum mags as far as I know. I have seen a lot of Marines carrying Magpul EMAGs (STANAG compliant). They work with the 416. The Beta isn't unreliable per say, but it's not as reliable as a standard double column magazine. They had tons of failures shooting blanks out of them, but obviously blanks malfunction a lot more than real cartridges.
Nater245689 2 weeks ago
@Musashiprodigy The SAW didn't feed well from older AR mags because they can't keep up with it's rate of fire. It'll feed fine from something like an EMAG. The design is quite reliable, it's just an AK operating system that's been inverted. However, the age of a lot of the weapons in service is causing problems with them. They're simply worn out.
Nater245689 2 weeks ago

Ever notice that tiny little hole in the back of your buffer tube? That's called a drain hole. A .22 cal bore is small enough that water has a hard time leaving the bore without it. When coming out of the water, a slight downward tip of the muzzle allows the water to flow freely out of the front of the weapon. It works fine with d.i. or gas piston weapons. I don't care what the weapon is, I don't want to shoot it with a barrel full of anything... water included.

cj89311 1 month ago
This video is just trying to show that in a marine environment the HK 416 ( or any other piston driven AR) is a much better weapon. That is probably the main reason the navy seals us the 416. DI guns are good as well but if they fill with water you do have the drain them were you can start shooting right away with a piston gun. They aren't saying that a Colt is a and gun, they are just showing off the advantage of their gun.

I personally know of a Tactical team who dumped their G36s, MP5s and UMPs because of the crappy service they received from H&K. They now use LWRC rifles in all sorts of configurations and calibers and the last I heard, they were extremely happy with their choice.

Talshet 3 weeks ago
@NSWPJ Tell that to SBS, SAS, CAG, SEALs, GROM, and SAJ operators, all probably the most elite counter-terrorism units in the world. They all use M4s over any other rifle in the world. It doesn't even make sense for GROM or SAJ to use ARs when they are surrounded by AKs. They know how superior the AR/M4 is and they want it. EAG tactical did a test where a AR/M4 went 30,000 rounds without cleaning. Almost all new rifles are based off the AR, FNs SCAR, 416, the Masada. that's not crap
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@Musashiprodigy The H&K 416 is used by GROM, French Airforce and Special Units want to replace the FAMAS with it. Also used by Malasia,Turky, Norway and the Netherlands. The USA used it in the Delta Force, United States Special Operations Command, DEVGRU, US Army’s Asymmetric Warfare Group, Swat Units and the Security Service of NASA and even the Marines us it they call it M27 Infanterie Automatic Rifle.
Revan817 2 weeks ago
@Revan817 Yeah I know alot of people are buying them, even some Dutch SOF unit I think. They have some pros, but the 416 is not liked by American SOF units, actually most 416s are being brought back for DGI AR/M4s. Because DGI is faster and softer shooting so they can get faster split times with them. Plus the DGI AR/M4 is the most accurate rifle we US have ever fielded, that is well documented. It just goes to show, just because one company says it's an improvement doesn't mean it is.
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@Musashiprodigy lol news flash for you buddy the hk416 was developped by h&k for CAG vy their request and now DevGru uses it, also yes GROM use it, the french 1er Rpima use it some Commando Marine use it the french airforce has it as their primary Commando weapon, yeah they are all based around it because the concept is good the design is crap though yeah the 30,000 rounds without cleaning ? where in a facility or on the frontlines ? HK > Colt end of story everyone will comfirm it
NSWPJ 2 weeks ago
@NSWPJ Look up filthy 14 EAG tactical. No CAG and DEVGRU or whatever they are called today hate the 416. A DGI AR is faster and softer shooting than the 416 because of the DGI system. Plus DGI is more accurate than any piston gun EVER. You can find all these facts quite easily. The 416 is not well liked by SOF that is well documented. If you truly believe that you have alot to learn. This test does not mean it's superior, just because he didn't drain the gas tube doesn't meant it's crap.
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@NSWPJ This test should not be a ultimatum for you. SEALs taped the barrel of their M4s closed and it came out of the water shooting before they had 416s. Both have pros and cons, the 416 runs better suppressed, can handle dirt and grim better. While a DGI AR is faster/softer shooting, alot more accurate, weighs less and has less parts. It really all depends on what you want to do. Even though, it speaks for itself that most SOF are still fielding DGI ARs over the newer MK16s and 416s.
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@Musashiprodigy Yes, if you tape the muzzle (absolutely required for any OTB stuff) and have the bolt forward with the dust cover up then water shouldn't get into the action or the gas tube. This test was extremely dangerous because the magical HK 416 certainly isn't immune to getting water in the bore, which would have caused it to grenade.
Nater245689 2 weeks ago
@Nater245689 No you have take into account that they are using the ARs ergonomics, sights, cartridge alot of the time, even though masada is a multi-caliber. Plus the Masada and MK.16 use a completely different bolt. The poin I was trying to make is, the AR-15 changed the face of the infantry rifle forever, it is closer to the perfect weapon system than any other firearm, it is unsurpassed in accuracy, handling, speed, design. It can be a SBR, SPR, rifle, DMR, carbine anything.
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@Musashiprodigy Sorry, but that doesn't mean they're based on the AR-15. They're just setup that way because that is what people are used to. The SCAR and the ACR both use the AR-18 bolt, likely with a few minor differences. The bolt carrier of the SCAR differs in that the op-rod is integrated into it (like and AK) and the other rifles (G36, L85, ACR) do not do this. Anyone who's looked at it knows it's an AR-16/18 system.
Nater245689 2 weeks ago
@NSWPJ lemme ask you something. Have you had any expiernece with M4s or 416s? I have, I live by the gun every day of of my life. I have shot thousands of rounds thru all different kinds of AR/M4s, full auto, suppressed, SBRs, SPRs you name it I have probably shot it. I have only had one malfunction with DGI ARs and it was after many rounds all suppressed. I shot a full auto 416 once, and you can feel more recoil than your average AR because of the piston working when the gun cycles.

NSWPJ 2 weeks ago
@NSWPJ Are you serious? This is sad. Your are again showing your ignorance by saying something that is false. It doesn't matter what barrel length it has, a DGI M4/AR will always be more accurate than a 416. It doesn't matter if it's at 200 or 600 meters. If you live in France or almost any country in Europe, it is impossible for you to have shot a 416 or M4. As most European counties will not allow civilians to own rifle in military calibers (556 or 762) so you are lying.
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@Musashiprodigy uh huh i'm lying....right...as i said once more you don't know who i am what i do or who i have connections with....so please your naive affirmations of me lying you can keep them to yourself, and you know what fuck it i've shot my share of rifles, and i find the 416 more reliable....that is all.
and you don't live in europe so i'm pretty sure you haven't got hands on experience how shit goes down over there....so really stop judging without knowing....it's sad
NSWPJ 2 weeks ago
@NSWPJ Hahaha nice. Getting defensive because I've proved you wrong once again, and made you look foolish? Your sad. It is almost impossible for you to have shot a M4 as they are extremely rare even in the French military, or a 416. It doesn't matter what connections you have you haven't shot a 416 kid. Your full of shit. I don't have to assume anything about you, as you have lied and stated false statements again and again.
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@NSWPJ I don't need to live in Europe to know that, a French civilian can't own a 416 or M4 as they they are chambered in a military caliber, so you are full of shit. Even if you have shot a 416 once that can't tell you how reliable a weapon is. You have to train with it, put a couple hundred rounds thru it, get into positions with it, to know how reliable a firearm is. This is getting pathetic, I'm tired of proving you wrong, please get a life.

@Musashiprodigy oh and btw yes this is lie hahaha i've shot the 416 and the m4 as well as other rifles...smartass but no you seem to know everything about everyone on the internet, stop being a moron really if i'm lying then you are just dumb... and yes i know what i am talking about
NSWPJ 2 weeks ago
@NSWPJ Sorry to shut you down again, but some of the most influential and ground breaking firearm designs are American, that's why almost very new assault rifle is based off of the AR/M4 (MK.16/17, 416, Masada/ACR) or it's cartridge. Like the 545. Look at the weapon advances we have made. The 1911 is still used by the most elite soldiers in the world, and it's a 100 year old American design fucktard. If the 416 is so superior why do American SOF operators return them for DGI ARs.
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@NSWPJ The reason everybody is buying them is it's a great weapon design made by one of the worlds best weapon manufacturers, the same people who produce the most popular SMG among counter-terrorism units. Plus it's supposed to be a improvement on the existing DGI setup. Which some SOF units don' think so. So you think because you shot a 416 and M4 once (which you didn't), you know which one is more reliable and more accurate? Ha What a joke! You have no clue what your talking about
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@NSWPJ It's awesome how you use all my insults haha and deny that I'm stating facts when you are talking out of your ass

NSWPJ 2 weeks ago
@Musashiprodigy and might i just add this, if the 416 is such crap....then is it being fielded as a replacement for most colt weapons out there ? huh answer me that oh maybe because it's more reliable and more accurate and the fact that weather barely affects it while operating out in the field ? and no i didn't dodge your questions or points for the questions i read them and your points i took them in account, ut why are you being so defensive about the m4 ? when it trueley is crap...
NSWPJ 2 weeks ago
@NSWPJ Hahaha you are so ignorant or maybe just delusional. I already told you a regular, AR15/M4 made by anybody Colt, FN, BCM, anybody is faster and softer shooting, plus more accurate. They are actually the most accurate rifle the US has ever fielded. If the HK is so superior why can't it replace SOFs DGI ARs? You can find this evidence wherever, look it up kiddo. The only things the HK does better is runs longer suppressed, it can handle more dirt and grim. Why is it so much better?
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@NSWPJ A training environment. CAG needed the 416 for high levels of suppressed shooting, where it's advantages over a DGI gun make up for it's disadvantages against them. What units like CAG or DEVGRU use is highly mission specific. The M4A1s and Mk 18 CWBRs are still used along with the other DGI guns like the Mk 12 SPR and the Mk 11 Mod 0.
Nater245689 2 weeks ago
@Nater245689 Dude EAG tactical does tactical training in harsh environments, some places are just like Afghanistan, they are rolling in the dirt, getting dirty, and pushing those guns hard. Even though you can't predict what will happen in the field, you can still make your training very realistic. Check em out, Pat Rogers knows what he doing. Hes a great instructor. yeah definitely, look at the osama raid, I heard somethe SEALs had that H&K MP7 PDW, which is pretty limited past CQB
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@Musashiprodigy Those rifles are based on the AR-16/18, not the AR-15. Eugene Stoner designed the AR-16, a 7.62x51mm NATO weapon, which was later redesigned for the 5.56x45mm cartridge. The only thing in common it has with the 15 is the multi-lug bolt. Basically every Western assault rifle that has been designed since then, excluding the FN FNC (AK-style long stroke) and the FAMAS (lever delayed blowback) has used it's operating system.
Nater245689 2 weeks ago
@Nater245689 Which is just stupid, because it's supposed to replace something that uses 100,150, and 200 round box mags, so you get a quarter of the fire power. I guess they could use the Surefire high cap mags, they are reliable, my experience with them has been good. Even though they might interfere with going prone. Idk I think the Marines made a mistake. They should have just bought some MK.46s they are more reliable than the 249 and weigh less.
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@Musashiprodigy You do know what the M249 and the Mk 46 Mod 0 are essentially the same weapon? The Mk 46 just deletes the ability to use 4179 magazines, the carry handle, and the pintle lugs. I think what the Marines is doing is very smart. The SAW was a light machine gun that had been pressed into the automatic rifle role, a role for which it was ill suited. I don't trust the Surefire mags, I've seen them fail. I think the Armatac 75rd drum would be the ideal choice.
Nater245689 2 weeks ago
@Nater245689 I haven't seen any failures of the Surefire mags. Last time I saw Christ Costa, he said he loved his, and had zero problems with them, and he runs his equipment very hard. Dude that setup (ergonomics) came from the AR. Yes it's what everyone is used to, but they are some of the best ergonomics that's why they borrowed them for the new desgin, so they are based on the ARs ergonomics, if not what weapon are they based off?
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@Musashiprodigy Sorry, but the operating system is the heart of the weapon. They're all based on the AR-18. End of story. The AR-15 isn't the end all, be all of weapon ergonomics. It's good, it's not perfect. If it were, you won't have ambi mag release kits, BAD levers, ambi safety kits ect.

Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@Nater245689 I totally agree with you though, any weapon can be improved upon. Colts new CM901 will probably be one of the most efficient and perfect ARs yet.
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@Musashiprodigy I get bolt overrides fairly regularly in the last five rounds.
Nater245689 2 weeks ago
@Nater245689 I'm sure if you call surefire they'll replace it. They have great customer service.
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@Nater245689 Yes, but those MK.46s are newer, made better. Other than the SAW bein very finicky and heavy, I hear it is well liked by all services. Where have you seen them fail? Video or what?
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@Musashiprodigy They're not made any better, they're just the same which means quite good. FN Herstal is probably the best small arms manufacturers in the world, but they aren't miracle workers. Most of the US inventory of M249s are very old, they've been in service since the early 1990s and have huge round counts. They're simply worn out. They're not failing due to any defect in their design.
Nater245689 2 weeks ago
@Nater245689 Dude the 249s are unreliable, I have heard from multiple people who carried them that they fail from minimal dust getting into the feed tray. But the MK46s have better tolerances. Kid I wasn't trying to take it back to the AR18, I was simply saying that those weapons used the AR-15 (not the AR18) as a starting point for their design. yes but it is about the most perfect firearm. not perfect.
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@Musashiprodigy I'm sure you could plot dissatisfaction with the M249 versus the age of the weapon issued quite accurately. The British don't have any problems with theirs, neither did the US in the 1980s and 1990s. It's only in the last five or six years that there have been wide spread problems with them.
Nater245689 2 weeks ago
@Nater245689 Idk, they are definitely good weapons, I know the SAS loved the early ones. but I have two friends, one who is in the CAV, the other a former Meusoc Marine. They both expressed either first hand problems or seeing problems with the 249s. Plus they aren't the only ones that I have heard that from.
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@Musashiprodigy Yes, they are. The problem is, the ones the US have need to be written off. I can't even imagine the round count of a weapon, a machine gun no less, that's been in service since 1993. There are guns in circulation that probably have a million rounds through them. I think they should be replaced with the FN HAMR and the Armatac 75rd drum (assuming it works well). As far as I know, the Armatac drums don't require graphite like the Betas.
Nater245689 2 weeks ago
@Nater245689 Yes what is? That wouldn't be a bad replacement. I like the closed bolt to open bolt operation, don't know how reliable that is though. As an example of people having problems with 249s, I found an article in the September 2005 issue of SWAT about contractors and the author stated that the 249s his company bought were unreliable, and they bought them new. Even after replacing the questionable parts in the guns, they continued to be unreliable.
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@Nater245689 Don't ask why I was reading a 2005 issue of SWAT haha
Musashiprodigy 2 weeks ago
@Musashiprodigy Why don't you type "AR-18 field strip" into the search bar, then follow it with "ACR field strip" and "SCAR field strip". Then tell me those weapons are based on the AR-15 instead of the AR-18. Where the mag release is located isn't the heart of a weapon. It's operating system, however, definitely is. That said, the safety and mag release are basically identical on the -15 and -18. The differences are the charging handles and bolt catch/release.
Nater245689 2 weeks ago
@Nater245689 You already said that. I get it. When they were designing the weapon, they did not say, let's give it the ergonomics of the AR18 I don't know how you aren't getting this part of what I'm saying. I'm not disagreeing with you that it uses the AR18s piston design. I'm tired of dragging this on withh you

akiles26111983 2 months ago
The US Army has a bunch of bureaucrats as their leaders. They are using a 40+ years old weapon system that has been shown to be prone to malfunctions when used under harsh conditions, like in the desert.
The HK 416 is a better and more reliable weapon system that could save the life of a soldier in some situations, yet what does the Army do? Buys more M4s. What a joke.
At least Delta Force is using the 416 (because it suits their requirements), which shows they don't care for the common soldier.
Aofex 2 months ago
@Aofex maybe they get the m4s cheaper... I dont think america needs a good military, and to be frank..... apart from a couple of special forces and the armies rather high-standard gimmicks, I do not think the american army IS good. Of course it performs well in hollywood, but when I look at americas power, and the ability to field more human material then a comparable technology state... their weapons are fine.
I think the time is over where regular soldiers are very important.

You notice how he has a protective mask for the M4 test? Can you say rigged? Gotta love socialists.
TiconderogaX 2 months ago
@TiconderogaX Did you even watch the video? They knew it would fail due to the design of the DI system, so he wore a face mask for safety. The HK version is piston driven and they knew it would not fail in the over the beach test. What were you watching that shows socialistic rigged experiments? Go play COD.
kuribo1 2 months ago
@kuribo1 I agree, you should stick to playing COD considering your knowledge of guns...I take that back, your knowledge of corporations is in question. Hmm, a brand trying to make another brand look bad? You're right, that never happens. A flooded chamber has a good chance of absolutely nothing happening, rather than a pressure surge.
TiconderogaX 2 months ago
@TiconderogaX who was talking about flooded barrel? you were not me, I was talking about water in the gas tube being a problem versus water in a piston driven system. Continue playing MW3.
kuribo1 2 months ago
@kuribo1 Haha, ok. I guess we're not talking about taking on water in this thread...Stupid.

@TiconderogaX Yes considering America is as socialist as any other country. Post Office=Socialiism Public School=Socialism. There is nothing wrong with socialism.
3doghowl 2 months ago

TiconderogaX 2 months ago
@TiconderogaX Oh gee whiz, I never knew that! Thanks for enlightening me, oh great one.
How about this...Agree to disagree, move along, COD kiddies need to not comment on guns. We can both agree on that.
And before you go on another tirade of superiority, I own real firearms. Mine are of more conventional fare, so, hell, rail on me some more for owning useful tools for hunting, rather than weapons that are meant for killing man.
TheTrueMobius1 2 months ago
@TheTrueMobius1 Hahaha, I love how you prove your stupidity. I NEVER said colt was better, frankly that's a matter of opinion. I'm simply pointing out the obvious, which you seem to be unable to grasp. A competitor will make their rivals gun look bad on a comparison video, DUHHH. To say it could not possibly be rigged to explode is just fucking stupid. Freakin' fan boys.
TiconderogaX 2 months ago
@TiconderogaX And yet even the American military stated that the M4/M16 assault rifles jam up way too often.
That's the point I'm making. It's not a biased showing, it's a field test the DoD actually puts prototypes through to determine the next main assault weapon of the US military.
The M4 finished dead last, about 3 times worse than the 3rd place competitor. To say that the receiver was rigged is a flawed accusation when the DoD backs up the M4 failures.

@TheTrueMobius1 The German Army stated H&K's jam often...See, I can do it too.
