still play this tune in my actual car CD player when going for long drives. for some of us things like these never went away but remained in our minds for years
On the amiga he made music under the name nuke/ spaceman. Currently he makes lounge/ deephouse styled music as atjazz and has his own recordlabel called mantis recordings. Still, the scores he did for jaguar xh220, blastar, wolfchild and premiere are timeless amiga tunes.
The production started in 1992 mainly because of the recent recession. The people who bought Jaguar Xj220 was for example Elton John and Mike Tyson. The car was not so popular as to be expected. Mainly the price which was higher than for the competitors cars for abuut 40.000 £ and finally because of the recent Jaguar XJR-15 which had better acceleration and more powerful V12 engine (Jaguar had V6 biturbo). Because of this Jaguar was completed only in 281 copies.
Jaguar apart from the "street" version had 2 extra ones - XJ 220 C and f*****g powerful XJ 220 S (spirited 690PS and top speed 367 km/h). As i observed the type which appears in the game is type C mainly because of lower speed which can be acquired.
What shocks is the combustion of petrol, which stays as:
- at 121 km/h - 8,7 l/100km !!
- at 90 km/h - 7,8 l/100km !!!
The Jaguar was the fastest car in the world till the McLaren F1 came in 1994 and stated the standards for futher several years.
Jaguar xj220 was the child of work of engineers from the Jaguar who took afterhours to create a car which would be the good alternative for Ferrari F40 or Porsche 959.
The main creator was Jim Randlle. Jaguar had the finances to complete the process (mainly thanks to Ford which bought Jaguar in 1989)
The first view was avaible earlier during British Motor Show in 1988. In 1989 Jaguar announced the serial production - target part 350 copies - the price 361.000 £ - first part 220 copies.
Sadly it was presented in the late 1980's when cars like these sold like hot cakes. But then the global economy went into a serious recession in the early 90's and even the rich that had ordered it cancelled their orders. Therefore only 220 were ever made, and the last 50 were sold to different car sellers in hope of better times.
Martin Brundle drove one in Nardo to 347km/h in 1992. So it was proven to be the fastest.
This is one of the most beautiful compositions I've ever heard, the Amiga sound chip was one amazing piece of silicon! I'd love to have this one in my own car, it's fantastic!
Lol. I did find this melody on a page that shares all the classic Amiga game melodies. Fortunately it could be transformed to mp3, and I burnt a CD with all the best compositions.
When I am out alone driving longer distances I sometimes play this very melody. It is brilliant driving music, even if I don't really own a Jaguar XJ220...
Well we can all dream! :) I do exactly the same thing now, I downloaded this video and simply extracted the audio string and converted it to an Mp3 and it's now on my IPod and in my car too!
Did this since I had my first trips with my car, and before with dad... =) Incredibly, he appreciated the music, even if he doesn't like synth sounds. I had it mastered very well with mixed stereo channels from WinUAE. I still have the CD with all this beautiful soundtrack and I still think it's the best car-driving music.
I remember being very impressed seeing the presentation for this screen with CD player written there. Really really slick, what a way to demo the music, class. The sound guy "hyper" (alias) was brilliant.
The sound guy was Nuke of Anarchy, actually, and he was about 16 when he did this! Real name is Martin Iveson; also worked on Tomb Raider etc more recently.
