How do they get on in the cold weather with snow, do they keep very warm? They don't have a double coat and I am wondering. I live in the high mountains and want to make sure. Thanks

They are a scottish breed their hair is harsh and they are well adjusted to cold temperatures. I have one and live in the mountains and mine doesn't seem to mind.

they are so sweet looking but remember it is a terrier and terriers can be lots of work =)) But it's the hardest job you'll ever love

@JTPMyLife Yes, they don't shed much, but you need to brush them a few times a week.

@0123010 The westie originated from the cairn terrier when a hunter shot his own cairn mistaking for a fox. after that he decided he wanted a white and easy to spot cairn. so as people bred the white cairns they became the westie :D
