Yeah, it wasn't the greatest. And people who hadn't watched Dragon Ball were lost. It would have been a good representation of, "what if goku didn't go ape shit (pun intended) on his grandpa" if they would have used better special effects. I mean I'm as much a dragonball fan as the next guy and know everything there is to know what happens and who's who. I'm disappointed because they changed it from the series but I don't hate them for it. I want to see it a lot just because I like dragonball period and they had the guy who did the Matrix effects do this movie too. I can agree with you on that last part. I saw everything they released on the site and nothing has changed about my opinion of it. A lot of people I know did go to see it and thought it was worthwhile.
He never said he was basing it off of the movie, he said he was basing it off of the trailer. I can't say anything because i never saw the movie, but based on the trailer I have high expectations that this movie will suck. And just because it's "Evolution" it doesn't give it an excuse for not sucking. It could be completely wrong as far as the story line goes, and I can accept that, but it can still be a horrible movie all-together...
I had just seen the movie yesterday and I can't say it was the best movie but it definitely wasn't horrible. My only disappointments were that Goku was a bit of a wuss at the beginning but then he starts to develop as a character so that's kinda neat and it could have had a bit more combat but overall it was a humorous movie that had many interesting differences some for the better like giving Mai a bigger role than what the anime did or maybe humanizing Goku a bit. 8.0 out of 10 for me

I think that they changed the name to dragonball EVOLUTION so they could just fuck it up and say it wasn't based off the original storyline but I do understand all your worries about the movie because I share them with you.
However as for Nimbus and the Power Pole, he doesn't obtain either of those until a little after his fight with Piccolo I thought. I can't be completely sure though seeing as I haven't read the manga / seen the anime in a loooooong time.

I share your concerns, DBZ is by far the best and most original anime of all time. It set the basis for many great animes that followed. It is excited that they made a movie, I wont lie. But yes they got so many things wrong its ridiculous. Dont forget about Bulma who has gone from a blue haired science genius to a brunette pistol whipping james bond type character : /

This film just reeks of fail already. Most of the time, trailers and teasers make the movie look better than it actually is. If that's the case with this movie, then we're fucking screwed because the trailer just flat out sucks. Has the director actually seen any of the shows? It really makes you wonder. A live action dbz film would be difficult to make right, I admit. But cmon, I know someone out there could do better than what I've seen so far. It's all just really dissapointing.
The guy they have playing Goku looks more like Gohan to me. The Gohan in his teen years of course. How can you make a dragonball movie and screw up basically the main character of the show? Goku does not seem to be acting like Goku, like you said. Goku is innocent and likes to make jokes, and thinks positive in bad situations. Yet, can also get pissed and kick ass. This guy playing Goku seems to be acting more like a teenage Vegeta.
It almost looks like they tried their best to make the characters as opposite as they could to the actual characters of the show. Chow young phat, like you were saying, seems too serious. He plays good serious roles, but as far as playing a perverted, crazy, funny older guy, I think he would just come off as creepy, especially if in this film he goes from serious, to perverted and crazy out of nowhere. I know why Krillin isn't in the film, king Piccolo had him killed when he went to get the dragonball Goku had left behind. it's the main reason Goku was after king Piccolo in the first place.
I also think they have merged Yamcha and Tien together into a single character. Yamcha did hardly any fighting during this saga because he broke his leg in his fight with Tien at the previous tournament. I think they chose to go with Yamcha rather than Tien as he was also from the turtle school and it saves any problems with the 3rd eye.
Come to think of it I also think they may have merged Bulma with Launch's blonde side. It would certainly explain why she has more guns.

I prefer that dragon the movie should made by animation 3D such as Resident.Evil Degeneration. i hate the DB evolution story line, so different with the shirt were GOKU wear, character (picolo & etc), no air fighting, goku no tail, capsule that bulma have like transformer,no kame house at all in the island, the monkey thing should BIG! not Small, and Goku should evolve with tail when he seen the moon not in the Solar Eclipse without tail ohh! the DBE not was i aspect .

I'm disappointed because they changed it from the series but I don't hate them for it. I want to see it a lot just because I like dragonball period and they had the guy who did the Matrix effects do this movie too. I can agree with you on that last part. I'm thinking they'll do the trilogy as DB DBZ and DBGT.

I can't say anything because i never saw the movie, but based on the trailer I have high expectations that this movie will suck. And just because it's "Evolution" it doesn't give it an excuse for not sucking. It could be completely wrong as far as the story line goes, and I can accept that, but it can still be a horrible movie all-together...

I had just seen the movie yesterday and I can't say it was the best movie but it definitely wasn't horrible. My only disappointments were that Goku was a bit of a wuss at the beginning but then he starts to develop as a character so that's kinda neat and it could have had a bit more combat but overall it was a humorous movie that had many interesting differences some for the better like giving Mai a bigger role than what the anime did or maybe humanizing Goku a bit. 8.0 out of 10 for me

I think that they changed the name to dragonball EVOLUTION so they could just fuck it up and say it wasn't based off the original storyline but I do understand all your worries about the movie because I share them with you.
However as for Nimbus and the Power Pole, he doesn't obtain either of those until a little after his fight with Piccolo I thought. I can't be completely sure though seeing as I haven't read the manga / seen the anime in a loooooong time.

I share your concerns, DBZ is by far the best and most original anime of all time. It set the basis for many great animes that followed. It is excited that they made a movie, I wont lie. But yes they got so many things wrong its ridiculous. Dont forget about Bulma who has gone from a blue haired science genius to a brunette pistol whipping james bond type character : /

i just watched this movie and i know it will not match with wolverine or transformers but for a start it has some interesting action stunts too. And for a dbz fan, they will rate it C or D but for those who don't care, just watch it. Justin chatwin really looks like Goku and his portrayal as the young Goku fits him well, i think if ever they should make a sequel and i hope they will, just change the director and keep justin

This film just reeks of fail already. Most of the time, trailers and teasers make the movie look better than it actually is. If that's the case with this movie, then we're fucking screwed because the trailer just flat out sucks. Has the director actually seen any of the shows? It really makes you wonder. A live action dbz film would be difficult to make right, I admit. But cmon, I know someone out there could do better than what I've seen so far. It's all just really dissapointing.

The guy they have playing Goku looks more like Gohan to me. The Gohan in his teen years of course. How can you make a dragonball movie and screw up basically the main character of the show? Goku does not seem to be acting like Goku, like you said. Goku is innocent and likes to make jokes, and thinks positive in bad situations. Yet, can also get pissed and kick ass. This guy playing Goku seems to be acting more like a teenage Vegeta.

It almost looks like they tried their best to make the characters as opposite as they could to the actual characters of the show. Chow young phat, like you were saying, seems too serious. He plays good serious roles, but as far as playing a perverted, crazy, funny older guy, I think he would just come off as creepy, especially if in this film he goes from serious, to perverted and crazy out of nowhere. I also think they have merged Yamcha and Tien together into a single character. Yamcha did hardly any fighting during this saga because he broke his leg in his fight with Tien at the previous tournament. I think they chose to go with Yamcha rather than Tien as he was also from the turtle school and it saves any problems with the 3rd eye.
Come to think of it I also think they may have merged Bulma with Launch's blonde side. It would certainly explain why she has more guns.
