i will say this, simon "the original Mean Girl" cowell must have had something goin on (in his much younger days) to have been all serious longtime BF/GF with this girl Sinatta, for reals
Another reason S/A/W were geniuses was that they knew how important it was to appeal to little kids and "tweens" long before the word "tween" even existed. They gave their songs titles like "Cross My Broken Heart" -- which made them easy for little kids to understand and relate to. And helped guarantee million sellers, too!
S/A/W were geniuses of music production. They deserve a place in heaven for stealing undergroung gay house music elements and sprinkle them in small dosage over irresistible pop cup cakes. A formula that always sounded happy (=gay), fresh and pacey. MARVELLOUS dahhhlin'!
@originaldeftom Exactly. They WERE geniuses. They wrote songs like this one in their sleep while record producers today can't come up with a catchy hook to save their lives. Look at "I Should Be So Lucky." They dashed that off in like 5 minutes, just to get rid of Kylie -- because they'd never heard of her and couldn't be bothered. And that became a massive worldwide hit only months later. They were true geniuses and I worship them.
@jposh707 I DID like SAW in the 80s, but looking back, "Power Factory" songs ALL sounded the same, even more so than Motown songs in the 60s sounded alike... It appears "the sound of a bright young Britain" has become "the sounds of a hopeless, middle-aged UK in a tower block"...
@shmuli9 Well you would know that better than I would, as I'm an American admirer of their music. S/A/W did have big hits here in the US but they were interspersed with lots of other types of music on the pop charts at the time -- which I think diluted their overall sustainability, and ultimately, their memorability on this side of the pond. However this was a sound that was exported all over the world at the time -- a remarkable achievement, and one which makes your Motown comparison quite apt.
@jposh707 Indeed, this sound WAS exported all over the world, and as Motown greatly influenced other music (such as the 4 Seasons), people like Debbie Gibson emulted this sound (on songs like "Shake your Love")...
@sonhun76 I feel the same way. I was born in '77 and so I grew up totally infatuated by and in love with 80s pop. I'm sure I will be for the rest of my life.
@vonHemmenstadt Yes, I wanted to say that. But you must notice first, that english is not my mother language, because I live and I'm from Spain, so, it's easy to me get wrong.

@Timmblock! Yes, it's true they used to go out together for a couple of years, in the late 80's. Brad Pitt really looked after Sinatta & to this day still keeps in contact with her during holidays.

This is the most patronising load of tripe ever issued in the name of pop music. I'm no intellectual but those lyrics are pre-school simplistic with no depth.

Obviously you don't have a sense of humour. This song is a parody on young relationships that revolve around school image rather than on love. Kind of like two twelve year olds going on a date.....to each others houses' for some chicken nuggets!
