This is one of my favorite songs.. Sometimes when I hear it, I visualize a tribal woman with a mask dancing around a fire as she tells the story of her adventures and of herself to the circle of other people of the tribe.
because my names isobel i didnt choose it. or because this song freaks me out? she sounds freaky maybe you like this but i dont. and i dont mean to offend anyone because i understand not everyones music taste is the same. some people may say my music taste is bad and say what i listen to (a mix of alot of things e.g my chemical romance, all time low,one direction, lady gaga, simple plan) is a bad taste in music which i get offended by because everyones different:)
u have to remember that shes not from here.. shes got plenty of recognition but americans are slow to everything around the world and we dont recognize true talent
Madonna didnt got inspiration from Bjork to make her Ray of light album, she got inspiration from the Bristol sound, techno, classical, ethnic and ambient music.
Frozen has a demand, excepting for those 20 seconds she did plagarize, the rest of the song is a masterpiece, so the entire album
@ernest671 I Believe Ray of Light was inspired specifically by Bjork. When Bjork worked with Nellee Hooper in 1993's Debut, Madonna hopped on Hooper for Bedtime Stories the next year, and Bjork contributed lyrics to that album's highlight, the title track. Madonna completely indulged in electronic music with Ray of Light, which was a processed, pop-ularized version of Bjork's music.
@ernest671 That's nothing to be ashamed of; everyone's inspired by someone. On the other hand, it's not okay to be afraid to give credit to someone just b/c they're a contemporary.
We were driving home from this club (#'s) ,6 of us, and I was the designated driver. It was 6:20 AM and the sun was starting to creep up. Everyone else was asleep and I put this song into the radio and jammed it. It was like an etheral experience for me--totally alone and yet with the company of 6 other (sleeping) people. Sun was rising--It was like cleansing my head...to get out all the cobwebs from the previous night. Oh--and the bass lines shook my solar plexus. Good times.....
It's an introspective song, you are no doubt thinking of yourself, time to bite the bullet and come out of the closet. It's OK, we won't laugh at you or anything.
The point isn't whether you are "out" or not, the point is that you judge everything based on your self so your interpretation of this song is muddled by your selfishness and huge ego. Get over yourself!
@alden21 I am having difficulty understanding your comment...are you asking Bjork to come out of the closet? I do believe she has stated before that everyone should try something different. Variety is the spice of life. Not her exact words, but you get what I am saying.
"This is the story of Isobel; she was born in a forst by a spark, and as she grew up, she realized that the pebbles on the foret floor were actually skyscrapers. And by the time she was a grown-up woman and the skyscrapers had taken over the forest. She found herself in a city, and she didn't like all the people there so much, because they were a bit too clever for her."
oh i finally found it..i was in this video years ago wen i was younger..dnt remember it to much jus reemember playin in a piano filled with water and bjork being reali nice, oh and wearin really uncomfortable shoes lol
I admire anyone who gets the ultimate opportunity to see this song performed live. According to some live YouTube performances via Bjork, she does a TREMENDOUS job!
I love all the electronica elements in her music, but it's her voice that always wins me over.
I'm not too certain, but to me, it seems to be about a woman's independance. I don't know, people acquire different interpretations all the time, I suppose it is up to you.
i think its about what bjork feels like when shes off in her own world, her imagination, when shes 'married to myself', i think it means she feels at home with herself, loves herself.
My daughter's name is Isobel. I didn't know about this song when I named her, but she is a forest child. I love this song and hope she appreciates it when she grows up.
She is so cute in here, I do extremely dislike Pagan Poetry though my sister is in love with that song along with many others. The video just kind of makes me sick. But I do love this video. She looks so much cuter with bangs =3
Pagan poetry kinda made me sick in the beginning but when you really start to get into it and find all the hidden messages. Most portray sex as being a dangerous thing but the song is about a woman before her wedding day. A corset is a beautiful piece of clothing and piercings are getting extreme, she found beauty in that image. Maybe it's just me tho. XD
I noticed Bjork had a lot of interesting songs with messages hidden in them. I read the lyrics and I guess I can under stand that. Sex is a beautiful thing to do with the one you love, but I would show anyone else because I don't find other people having sex pleasant to the eye. lol but that is just me?
where did you see anything about a corset! lol To me this song talks about the the destruction one can cause when they are only concerned about themselves. This songs talks about the lack of love for humanity, Life and people and when you desire to only please yourself it's leaves you with nothing! I'm reminded of a great quote. When you chase after greatness you will find nothing, but when you chase after truth you will be great!
In the Pagan Poetry MV there was an extreme piercing shot at the end. The piercings were in the shape of a corset, beautiful but at the same time disturbing. It took me awhile to accept that but I saw so much beauty when I did. I like your take on the song, very insightful. :)
Naw, no individual song comes after Bachelorette, but the album Vespertine is rumored to be a concept album about the character Isobel (after the events of the first 3 songs, somewhat of an internal struggle type thing) but has never been fully confirmed by Bjork herself, only alluded to.
@breezee0622 Which is really just fine. The best artists do not belong to the world. They do not compromise their artistic vision for mass adoration or riches. You can expect the most marvelous of musical minds to remain in the musical underground.
@breezee0622 I wouldnt say that's true at all. For such a brave and original musician, she has received amazing amounts of recognition. Most people who put as much love and care into their music as her never really get noticed outside of their hometowns. She's played at the olympic opening ceremony even.
this music clip reminds me of the time i lived near snaesfellsjokull and the city of Reykjavik just kept growing around and near us, we did really use the capital for resources because of some of the city jerks who lived there, business wankers.
The "dark feel" of this song and video is just incredible. I think this may be my favorite music video of all time. I love it. I get chills every time I watch it. Bjork is a goddess in many respects; her talent and creativity are amazing (and looks of course!).
