It's always dreamy to think that some other time would have been more sweet to have lived in. Existentially, these people's lives were no more simple than ours are now.
Just want to comment on this video. Very touching. I just lost my dad at 76 due to cancer today. I want everybody to cherish their moms and dads, sisters and brothers Cause you just dont when their time will be here on earth. I wish I had spent more time with my dad. Thnxs and God Bless,
WOw 1940 so much Racism against blacks in the Southern States at this time, Wars in full effect, and the Jews in Germany under the domain of sadistic Hitler.
I wonder what happened to all those people, I am sure most everyone in that are dead, or very old. But you have to wonder who they were an what became of them.
The dark coupe the boy gets into repeatedly is a ca. 1947 Lincoln. The flying boat reminds me of the Pan Am Clipper, used mostly for long-range over-ocean travel. Some of this -- the parade and Chamber of Commerce scenes for example, may have been taken in S. America. The road scenes appear tropical. These people are well-to-do -- maybe dapper Dad is a commercial attache or some other type of U.S. diplomat. The videographer is prob. a young teen -- swoopy camera. GREAT music -- broke my heart.
It was a time when familys had time for each other. They sat down for dinner and ate together. We played games, and would stay outside playing till dark. We always felt safe never worried because Mom wasn't too far away. Our big treat was making icecream and inviting the neighboor over to share with us. We were taught to be proud of our country and went to church to worship our God. I was allowed to be a child, kids today grow up way to fast. It was a good time to be Born and raised.
@Kathleen6209 those were truly simplier days. these videos always make me sad because times have changed, and in these videos you can see those kids had their mothers love, warmth and companionship; and yet now the kids are all grown up and their mothers have all passed on. Change can be a sad, and bad thing. But I just simply wish there was a time machine so we could all go back to those days like in this video ^
@KmerWannabe95 This is true, but you have to remember that people have more rights and freedoms now a days. We have vaccines to cure sickness, and we are slowly but surely moving away from racism. There was also a terrible war going on! But I feel like I would have loved to live in this time, too.
to lostfaith1980: i feel the same way you do, a sadness in watching these. It was a different world, a different time. It's all gone and can never return. What poet was it that said "you can never go home again"
A piece of American life, have a look at 'unknown mystery boat trip' This is another lost film ,this time in the English home counties from the same period. Excellent!
I so wish I lived in the 1940's. Everything looks so cool! The cars and everything. And if I was 18 at this time I would join up in WWII because I would serve my country to stop what happened in the 1940's like bad guys and Hitler.
Chetmcgee, what are you, like 10 yrs. old?! That is an ignorant and uneducated comment. This is very nice for the time period. Cool sea planes are boring?! Happy families who cared about each other are boring? This movie speaks of a more respectable time. I love it.
u don't get it do u? these are families who lived in a time of innocence that is far longed for today these people are happy and...and i wish i lived during this time
Life was truly simple and innocent back then. I remember the stories my parents would tell me about life in those days.

I wish we could go back to these times and cherish them. Life moves too fast today. We need to slow down and cherish the simple things.

I dunno why but it makes me feel sad watching it. Probably just the music or a desire to return to such a time.

these people took long, boring, poorly filmed home movies. i think they probably even bored the people who were in them.
