  • That was very interesting Dereck! I´m also a fan of folk music! I have some old albums of Fairport which I just love! I also have a solo album of sandy Denny and 2 Albums of Nick Drake.

Just a Question about the Trees-CDs you showed: Is it right Phil Trainer played in this band? I have a solo album of him simply called Trainer and I read somewhere he was member of that band. I really love his album. Its some kinda mixture of rock folk and blues, really awesome.

  • @ryanrocks84 He was not a member of the band but had them backing him on his solo album. I'll bet it's good. Do you have it on vinyl?

  • @dereckvon Oh, right! I just checked out the credits on the cover and there´s Celia Humphries on backing vocals, she´s a member of Trees, now I remember. Yes, I have the German issue on vinyl, released on the BASF label. But I´m looking for a better copy. Mine has some backing noise already and plays a VG-.

  • @ryanrocks84 Just having a copy on vinyl is pretty cool!

  • So crazy, all these seam rad..

  • @ROBERTyay That term is appropriate. Lots of great music.

  • Great video. I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight may be my favorite album of all time, love it so much. It has such a timeless feel and I love the melancholic mood of the album. It's heartwarming and depressing in equal measure.

  • @KoolRanchDressing That's a great description of it!

  • I just uploaded my Fairport Convention video and discovered you had done this one. Weird coincidence. Nice collection of British folk-rock.

  • I love those Trees albums, i just got the 'decal' reissues. On the Shore is probably the better one. Murdoch is such a great tune, with that rolling bass line. You are right about the artwork, anything by Hipgnosis is normally pretty good, but this has to be one of the best.

  • Nice video Dereck, I like a lot of English folk some of my favorites would be Fairport, Pentangle and the ISB. Also I can recommend a band called Mellow Candle and there album Swaddling Songs it was reissued some years back on vinyl and cd.

  • @Kiwizig Yes, I want Mellow Candle on vinyl so bad! I have it on download and love it.

  • Flairck are actually from the Netherlands but they do have a very English / Irish folk sound so it’s an easy mistake to make. I really enjoy your videos; you have so many great albums I don’t have. Every time I watch I have a pen and paper with me to make a list of albums to check out.

  • @GeorgeLupine3 Cool and thanks for the info on Flairck!

  • Oh man, this one is up my alley! Thanks for expanding my mind once again. Fairport's What We Did On Our Holiday and Unhalfbricking are both change-your-life great. I can't imagine you haven't heard 'em. Judee Sill is one of my faves. Those two lp's are among my most treasured in the collection. Another great vid!

  • @xtiandc1 I have Unhalfbricking on cd and I know Jeff has that other title so I can hear it. Yes, I haven't thought of Judee Sill in ages. Thanks for commenting.

  • Great video again, dr Higgins.

Many of my favorite folk albums were represented; Gryphon, Dando Shaft, Trees.Richard Thompson and R+L Thompson. Great stuff.

I recommend Comus, Mark Fry, Bobb Trimble and Spirogyra, if you aren't already familiar with them. Pentangles Basket of Light and FP's Liege and Lief are my two

top picks, though. Do you have any more records on the NEON label (there were only ten altogether I think.)?

  • @fedor30 Of those mentioned the only one I don't have on cd is Bobb Trimble. I will investigate and thank you. Fairweather is the only other Neon title I have. We won't get into what I used to have.
