Even if people are here illegally, the fact is they are here, and that reality must be dealt with. If prices for catastrophic care are skyrocketing because immigrants don't have access to reasonably priced medical care ,that's a problem for everyone. Just denying someone treatment isn't going to solve the problem. In fact, it will contribute to the spread of illness and to skyrocketing costs.
I agree with you and on this point. Imigration reform is essential to solve this problem. We cant provide health insurance to the world. But this aspect of reform is not covered in the bill. While we do have some obligation to our fellow man, they also have an obligation to themselves. I dont know your finances but if you have more than $3k in the bank you have more than 99.999% of the people on the planet. Does that mean you should be forced to give away $2.9k? This is equivalent to health care
The government is not asking people for $2.9 K. And, actually, every year, my insurance deductible is $2600 and then my premiums boost the total to $5400. I am hardly wealthy--I work part time for a nonprofit company and then freelance. I'm a writer. But I would rather spend money on a program that helps others than give it to wealthy CEOs.
You are correct. The latest figures show uninsured paying 1.9k. If you take the public option the cost of premium wont go down. The $ wont go to a ceo it will go to a government beaurocracy. Just like every other gov office it will not be able to contain costs. That's why taxes increase to cover these overages.
Never did I say I was against reform. This particular bill just is not the way to do it. Every citizen should have health coverage. I do not deny the right of anyone to have health care. My ancestors were immigrants. They came here legally and thus should be eligible for health care. Re. those who are not here legally, why should we be forced to pay for their health care? They are here ILLEGALLY! They can get health care from where they came from cant they and they wouldn't be breaking the law.
So, you think it is humane to exclude sick people from health insurance? I guess the alternative is to just let sick people die or go bankrupt. Individual bankrupcies from medical bills also take a toll on the economy. Illegal immigrants aren't covered by the bill--but the very fact that they aren't covered is part of what's running up costs, in fact, and I think public funding should go to abortions. Why is it your right to deny people legal medical procedures?
If the public option is passed and includes pre-existing conditions, itwill go backrupt. They can afford to cover these people anymore than other insurance companies can. That means that government funding will then be required. That means your tax $ will pay for illegals and abortions without your consent!

Also, premiums will pay for the public option, and there will be a huge increase of people paying into the system with universal coverage.
