LT friends, you are invited to a marvelous *new* master class on the life and music of our hero. The class focuses on Lennie's solo and group innovations. You will Dig this, promise:) Type in his name "Dave Frank" on YT
There's a documentary being done about Warne Marsh called, "Warne Marsh: An Improvised Life". There's a face book fan page up for it. Nice to see his work getting more attention.
I agree that it's based on the changes of Honeysuckle Rose. If you hum in your mind Scrapple From The Apple, which is also based on Honeysuckle Rose, it fits. Nevertheless, they make the ordinary sound very musically advanced.

Tristano is one of my favorites, an unheralded genius for sure, but I've never seen any of his music on 78's. This sounds amazing even overlooking the compressed quality of YouTube.
When I first heard this in 1975 I couldn't believe the dexterity of these players. Fantastic. No wonder the name of the piece is "Wow": it is what one says after hearing these breaks. I love cool Jazz, but you have to be a very professional and learned musician to play it well. I know, because I've been trying to play it since those years, in clarinet, tenor and alto sax, and it is still very difficult for me.
Thanks for sharing this great cut --- amazing stuff, I love Lennie... just saw Lee at Birdland in December and at 82 he is still playing his ass off....
If you still have a transcription of this tune I would be very grateful if you could send it to me. We do a workshop on Tristano & like to have a go at this one. Thanks a lot.
I'd love to see the sheet music for WOW and any other related (Konitz, Marsh, Tristano) tunes that you'd like to share. I play in a couple of 2 and 3 sax groups with rhythm section and these would be a blast.
im playing this tune in my combo....it such a good tune i really digg it....thanxs for posting. the horn players hate it because of that bridge....whatevs! haha
Satch I am not a Satriani fan I do realize he has incredible technique I give him that but I don't get anything from his music

This is fantastic; his work also on The 1958 TV series special with; Dr.Billy Taylor (p) is quite artful and amazing, his playing is so incisive.
