  • Satch I am not a Satriani fan I do realize he has incredible technique I give him that but I don't get anything from his music

  • This song is brilliant, thank you for sharing it!

  • This is fantastic; his work also on The 1958 TV series special with; Dr.Billy Taylor (p) is quite artful and amazing, his playing is so incisive.

  • the bridge is ridiculous for horn players

  • Interesting note about the label the great guitarist, Billy Bauer's name is mispelled. It reads Billy Baner

I'm just beginning to search out Lennie's music

  • @syn707 are you a joe satriani fan??

  • Gets better each time....thanx

  • Really opened my eyes to the creativity of lennie and all of his students and that cool school they created...wow is right

  • There's a documentary being done about Warne Marsh called, "Warne Marsh: An Improvised Life". There's a face book fan page up for it. Nice to see his work getting more attention.

  • this makes me want to wear a suit, smoke a joint, and kick back, real cool jazz, definitely not cold, but reeeeall cool

  • Is there notes for this tune somewhere? (internet?)

  • What a tough tune. WOW!

  • I agree that it's based on the changes of Honeysuckle Rose. If you hum in your mind Scrapple From The Apple, which is also based on Honeysuckle Rose, it fits. Nevertheless, they make the ordinary sound very musically advanced.

    FatsBlows

  • @FatsBlows no

    the verse is different changes

  • haha when Lennie comes in it is literally ridiculous...

  • Great!!!

  • Oh man, those unison horn part STILL blow me away! Crazy!!

  • What a treasure......Such mastery.

  • Felicitaciones es una gran joya musical

  • Veery nice, especially Konitz.

  • Tristano is one of my favorites, an unheralded genius for sure, but I've never seen any of his music on 78's. This sounds amazing even overlooking the compressed quality of YouTube.

Gotta find these 78's! Many thanks for this.

  • They take off....don't they !!!!!!!

  • & This is 1949-----------!!! wooo

  • When I first heard this in 1975 I couldn't believe the dexterity of these players. Fantastic. No wonder the name of the piece is "Wow": it is what one says after hearing these breaks. I love cool Jazz, but you have to be a very professional and learned musician to play it well. I know, because I've been trying to play it since those years, in clarinet, tenor and alto sax, and it is still very difficult for me.

  • Thanks for sharing this great cut --- amazing stuff, I love Lennie... just saw Lee at Birdland in December and at 82 he is still playing his ass off....

  • Ultra Sweet & Cool school...... a saxophone stew of sorts.. ha ha! Bless you for posting.... all great players.

  • HAHA love the way the picture of the soloist is shown when they play... cracked me up. Loved Lennie's lines man...

  • Wonderful music ..thanks for the posting.

    Message to Guysion:

If you still have a transcription of this tune I would be very grateful if you could send it to me. We do a workshop on Tristano & like to have a go at this one. Thanks a lot.

  • so fluid..

  • man...

    only three letters

    w o w

  • Yeah, after listening, I can hear the virtuosity, but he is light, and the whole group, on the swing.

  • If anyone wants the sheet music send me an email

  • G0d, do I. 0R do me, if you prefer.

    I'll find your email...

By the way, I did a film of my rare raymond scott 78...came out pretty well...has a mood...check it out.

    Ever hear Konitz doing Rebecca?

  • and don't forget to send your email address!!

  • Hey Gusion:

I'd love to see the sheet music for WOW and any other related (Konitz, Marsh, Tristano) tunes that you'd like to share. I play in a couple of 2 and 3 sax groups with rhythm section and these would be a blast.

  • yo man I'd love a copy of the sheet music if you still have

  • Immortal.....

  • im playing this tune in my combo....it such a good tune i really digg it....thanxs for posting. the horn players hate it because of that bridge....whatevs! haha

  • For horn player, I know that the bridge causes difficulty technically.

Because as for me as for horn player is because is it! haha・・

  • @groupieoftheyear Do you have any score for that beautiful piece?I would like to have that if you don't mind.. :)

  • Thanks for posting this. It was right "on time."

  • Thank you.

It may be said that their style emits still modern brightness today.

  • Wonderful... love the flowing inventive lines of all the soloists....thanks for the great post....

  • Yes. I think that they were really progressive matching strikes.

  • Dig it ♫♫♫♫♫
