Thats kinda a cool idea. If it was cut to fit the weapon and painted it would look a little sleeker. Have you tried running and crouching with it? Thats the only drawback I can really think of. Of course I could only see using something like this if I was carrying multiple rifles or if it was an AK pistol.

I took a 'BLACKHAWK!' Serpa Drop-Leg platform, used a drill and some bolts to screw a piece of wood through the existing holes on the platform.
The fabric is part of a guitar case that we put eyelets in. A box of those eyelets is only like a dollar, then used more bolts to screw the guitar case fabric to the board.
After that, just place the rifle inside the fabric, fold it over, and weave the metal rod through the eyelets

Yeah it could definitely be more refined but... its a good concept.
It is pretty hard to maneuver with, but that would probably be easier if, like you said, it was a shorter AK.
