@girlieeee3 They always do change things in movies. Another one is Resident Evil movies... come on, nothing to do with the games at all!! first... WHO THE FUCK IS ALICE? yeah, Milla play a good roll and is beautiful too and sexy but she doesn't even exist in the game... ¬¬ is more like the directors and producers decide to reflect in their work the way they see things and they do what they think would be better to make it a nice film... about this one, I liked it, the movie is awesome :)
@girlieeee3 well adapting a game is hard. It has to stay true, it has to have the same elements and stuff. But i think that the Super Mario movie could've been better. At least they didn't get Freddy Mercury and Danny DeVitto with a mustache.
I like that the lead is now a woman. I think it displays a more powerful and realistic message. I know how it sucks that they changed some of people's favorite scenes but honestly if it were the exact same it'd be pretty boring. They transfigured the game into an intense and overall fantastic movie. I can't say the same for dragonball and street fighter however...

Let's face it, men can be wonderful fathers, but when it comes down to a mother trying to find her child, even if said child is adopted... there's an intense connection there that would drive a woman to do so many things to save her child. Honestly, I loved this movie to pieces, it's one of my favorites, and I am eagerly awaiting the second one.
@XxDrJewxX The creatures in the film represented Alessa's memories of her tormentors and fairy tales. For example, the Grey Children represent both the children that tormented Alessa in school and the pain she felt while burning, hence how they are burning, if you pay attention. Also, PH represents possible judgement for the cultists. The orginal ending to the film had 6 PHs killing the cult.
lastly, the monsters on the game are representations of the main characters feelings, fears, hatred etc. when in this movie they are just monster that look scary, without any meaning at all, you missed what they are supposed to represent, pyramid head? there is no james in this movie so why the hell is he even here, just because he looks cool? guess he didn't understand why pyramid head exists and why he was scary. SH2 is not going to make any sense, they changed to much already in te first one.

The game is definitely scarier because when you play the game it is you controlling the character and it's you running away from the monsters and it's you who has to kill them. The film was good but to actually be afraid of Silent Hill you must BE in Silent Hill.

i love this film, it's more related to the games. the resident evil movies don't even remind me of the RE games, at least silent hill looks,feels, and sounds like the SH series.
why the hell are some of you critizising christophe's work?!?! I mean ,yes, the screenplay is different. Some characters are introduced earlier, some are introduced later. And there have been additions in plot as well as some things left out. That’s the way it is when you adapt a video game or book or whatever to a movie. I think it’s fascinating how video games and books are adapted to films. So,if y'all don't like Silent Hill then why are you watching this?!?!?!
Movies are usually not as good as the Original book or Game, but i understand the copyright issues you have if you have it exactly like the original, also do to length. it's like harry potter, resident evil and all the others that don't come close to the original thing...i guess we just have to accept the movies just give us a good visual for books and for games something to watch for a couple of hours rather then replay over again for 10 hours when your craving a franchise.
Actually, i think that Christophe's biggest fally with this game was the choice to change Harry to Rose. Sorry, but i don't think there are enough well shown single dads, and no Harry is not a woman or close to in the game. he's just a decent man. You put a Karl Urban or Michael Madsen in the role and boom, you've got a likeable protagonist.
@Filmzie Well, it was an issue with the screenplay, really(written by Roger Avary). Christophe Gans paid RESPECT to the game... which is really rare when it comes to game/video adaptations. The movie for me was far from perfect... as a stand alone movie... its like a campy B movie with religious/psychoanalytical overtones. But as a video game movie, it was leaps and bounds ahead than anything that's come before it.
seems like i remember seeing this or something like it on either spike or g4tech(when it was on basic cable) like just it was being promoted for theatres.
In comparison with the game, the movie was far less vague. But, considering the Hollywood trend of destroying original concepts, they didn't do a bad job turning it into a movie. Silent Hill is more symbolic. It doesn't follow a solid blueprint for a story, the story forms around the characters as form of punishment/lesson. The movie was SLIGHTLY different, but it was good.
And I know it is video game heresy, but I actually enjoyed the movie more then the story of the first game.
I'm a Silent Hill fan, strictly a fan of the games, and I didn't fully enjoy this movie. Does anyone agree that maybe this is one of those movies that sounds good on paper, but some parts aren't executed well? Because I can understand how the screenplay for this movie would look good if it was just read. But the acting and characters...meh. I wanted to see Harry Mason. Anyone?
@RCSODA70 I disagree with you I think they pulled it off very well. True many things were changed, but some of which is of necessity. I am a huge Silent Hill fan, and I was the first to notice many things that were different, but you have to understand how difficult it is to take something like Silent Hill or other popular and myserious games and turn them into a movie. It's never going to be spot on, but they did a very good job at it.
I feel that a lot of people are against this movie because it bled into the production of Silent Hill Homecoming. People are such loyalists to the original game. I actually like this movie and the new games (except Origins, bleh). I'm not sure about the new Silent Hill game, but they've only release so much. It'll be interesting to see what they concoct into the already disturbing elements of this game.

It MOSTLY takes from Silent Hill 1, but other concepts and characters came from 2 and 3, like Pyramid Head (first appearance: SH 2). Harry was changed to Rose and made female, since the love of a mother is supposedly better than the love of a father...bullshit if you ask me, but whatever...
One of the best videogame movies ever made. Usually videogame movies have a curse of being terrible. What i love about this movie is the creatures. Kudos to the man who played Pyramid Head.

@20579329 Actually the game was designed with an American background rather than Japanese. However, there are still Japanese concepts. The very base fears in this are designed from a Japanese perspective, though you wouldn't be able to see it unless you knew the Japanese culture and superstitions ;). Some concepts elude American culture, so in the movie they changed it to a more American backdrop. Fun fact, the games had a basis from movies such as Jacob's Ladder :).

I could care less about the changing of the characters, I can understand that. I do have a problem however that Cybil had to die, that was not cool, that ruined the entire movie for me.

@cjjtheone ok herein lies the difference, u have to option to save her in the game if u actually take the time to play it throughly. They should have had her be saved just in time if u ask me, she was too good a character to have her die, its unfair and unjust lol.

i my opinion the producer failed it, im not saying the film is "bad" - but its even far away from the quality level the games have, especially part 1-3. also i have to say i liked the film, i watched it a few times but for me its not "Silent Hill" for some reasons, above all that the director did not understand the story of the games, he just randomly chose some monsters from the games and put them into the movie(for example ph) ... anyway i hope that the second part will be better

It's still in the initial stages but the second film is supposed to be based more off the Silent Hill 3 video game story, they are searching for a teenage chick actor to play the man chick from SH3. It will probably come out in 2012 or if we are lucky late 2011.

i love this film, it's more related to the games. the resident evil movies don't even remind me of the RE games, at least silent hill looks,feels, and sounds like the SH series.

why the hell are some of you critizising christophe's work?!?! I mean ,yes, the screenplay is different. Some characters are introduced earlier, some are introduced later. And there have been additions in plot as well as some things left out. That’s the way it is when you adapt a video game or book or whatever to a movie. I think it’s fascinating how video games and books are adapted to films. So,if y'all don't like Silent Hill then why are you watching this?!?!?!

Movies are usually not as good as the Original book or Game, but i understand the copyright issues you have if you have it exactly like the original, also do to length. it's like harry potter, resident evil and all the others that don't come close to the original thing...i guess we just have to accept the movies just give us a good visual for books and for games something to watch for a couple of hours rather then replay over again for 10 hours when your craving a franchise.

Actually, i think that Christophe's biggest fally with this game was the choice to change Harry to Rose. Sorry, but i don't think there are enough well shown single dads, and no Harry is not a woman or close to in the game. he's just a decent man. You put a Karl Urban or Michael Madsen in the role and boom, you've got a likeable protagonist.

@Filmzie Well, it was an issue with the screenplay, really(written by Roger Avary). Christophe Gans paid RESPECT to the game... which is really rare when it comes to game/video adaptations. The movie for me was far from perfect... as a stand alone movie... its like a campy B movie with religious/psychoanalytical overtones. But as a video game movie, it was leaps and bounds ahead than anything that's come before it.

In comparison with the game, the movie was far less vague. But, considering the Hollywood trend of destroying original concepts, they didn't do a bad job turning it into a movie. Silent Hill is more symbolic. It doesn't follow a solid blueprint for a story, the story forms around the characters as form of punishment/lesson. The movie was SLIGHTLY different, but it was good.
And I know it is video game heresy, but I actually enjoyed the movie more then the story of the first game.

I'm a Silent Hill fan, strictly a fan of the games, and I didn't fully enjoy this movie. Does anyone agree that maybe this is one of those movies that sounds good on paper, but some parts aren't executed well? Because I can understand how the screenplay for this movie would look good if it was just read. But the acting and characters...meh. I wanted to see Harry Mason. Anyone?

@RCSODA70 I disagree with you I think they pulled it off very well. True many things were changed, but some of which is of necessity. I am a huge Silent Hill fan, and I was the first to notice many things that were different, but you have to understand how difficult it is to take something like Silent Hill or other popular and myserious games and turn them into a movie. It's never going to be spot on, but they did a very good job at it.

I feel that a lot of people are against this movie because it bled into the production of Silent Hill Homecoming. People are such loyalists to the original game. I actually like this movie and the new games (except Origins, bleh). I'm not sure about the new Silent Hill game, but they've only release so much. It'll be interesting to see what they concoct into the already disturbing elements of this game.

What is the problem with film makers, why can't they follow a story properly? They seem to make a film based on a game but it's not identical to the story of that game. I already know what the fan reaction is going to be like, more complaints!!! >:(

@Gunfresh It's based off of the first three games, not just Silent Hill 1. It MOSTLY takes from Silent Hill 1, but other concepts and characters came from 2 and 3, like Pyramid Head (first appearance: SH 2). Harry was changed to Rose and made female, since the love of a mother is supposedly better than the love of a father...bullshit if you ask me, but whatever...

@VampireBaru, now to me this game doesnt scream its japanese, theres very little elements that suggest it is, fatal frame on the other hand u can tell has japanese culture mixed in it, also whats with the 'suitable for western audiences'? Does that mean theyre too dumb to understand whats going on? XD

@20579329 Actually the game was designed with an American background rather than Japanese. However, there are still Japanese concepts. The very base fears in this are designed from a Japanese perspective, though you wouldn't be able to see it unless you knew the Japanese culture and superstitions ;). Some concepts elude American culture, so in the movie they changed it to a more American backdrop. Fun fact, the games had a basis from movies such as Jacob's Ladder :).
