Also, the chant seems more random in the first encounter, but when you run into him a second time, Neo-Astaroth is seated in the lotus position, indicative of ascension / enlightenment through purification of body, mind and spirit.

It was a pretty small/obscure development team, despite the high-profile musicians. Midway is unfortunately bankrupt, Aruze (who has the license) is renamed, mostly known for casino machines now and dissolved Nautilus (the developers) a few years ago, so the chances of more Shadow Hearts in the future are slim.

Also, I got psyched when Neo-Astaroth appeared because it meant hearing this song again.

I hated Shadow Hearts, but stuck it out. Everybody said Covenant was the greatest thing since sliced bread. I made it haflway through and realized I hated it so much that not only did I get rid of the game, I deleted my save file.

I guess I missed out on what everybody things is so great about this game. :\

@rafaelzimrp Not that surprised, i found most bosses terribly easy in this one. The only thing i found annoying was probably status ailments that i was not expecting (petrify, instant death and the like) and it only mattered if i ran out of soul benedicts and talismans which was never XD.

@DartUchiha It doesn't matter too much. The bad ending in Shadow Hearts is the canonical ending, so if you play Shadow Hearts 2, then you're honestly not missing anything. :D

@popimpi No you fight his dad just to obtain the SeraphicRadiance fusion monster. To get the happy ending you need to fight the masks in order from Grail, Gold, Staff, and Sword(Oath Grail makes it much easier), and read the small gravestone before Alice goes to the Graveyard. If it says "Rest in Peace Alice Elliot" you'll get Yuri in the Atman battle allowing you to beat him and get teh happy ending.

I strongly suggest you pick up the first and trudge through it even though it may seem very outdated - The second in the series is a direct follow up of the crazy, tragic events from the first, and an even finer game. As for the third, well... Don't worry about that one.

@robbyalp You should pick the 3rd one up as long as you're not expecting it to be as good as the others. Pick it up as if it were separate from the series. It's an amazing game that gets a lot of crap just because it wasn't as good as the others but it's still a fun and amazing game that everyone should play whether you're a fan of the series or not. Just don't get your hopes up too high and you'll enjoy it more than most rpgs.

I like the Covenant music, graphics, character, gampeplay, story and atmosphere better. And for myself I had a lot more laughs playing Covenant than The New World. The ending of the Covenant is very touching. The game itself has a much deeper and darkr atmosphere.

And From the New World resembles the Covenant so much. Diffrent scenery but the same concepts.

One of a few games i can remember where the ending for the series was absolutely perfect. Shadow hearts 1+2 are great gems that are sadly overshadowed by more well known yet inferior titles. Shadow hearts 3 was terrible. Hopefully they don't bring yuri back, as like i said covenant ended perfectly as far as im concerned. No need to milk it for all it's worth.

It's the most American-friendly RPG, actually gets advertising, is always pretty when released, and requires little brainpower to enjoy. Also some people(Mainly the producers) are a little tense about the religious themes used in Shadow hearts and many other RPG series, which basically just leaves Final Fantasy, and "maybe" Dragons Quest as comfortably marketable games, and dragon quest is less serious than FF, which makes it appeal less to people. Sucks, but what can you do other than buy more.

This game is on the level of Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga, Persona 3 and 4 are the worst Shin Megami Tensei games on every level: watered down battle system, lame Jpop OST, worst enemy designs, stupid sim dating mini games taking 80% of the gameplay time. The last thing I want to do in a game is study in school, Shin Megami Tensei were always about fighting God or Lucifer and the hanging testicle at the end of Persona 3 was a most disappointing end boss.
