I've owned this since the mid 80's on VHS and DVD. My favorite Eurythmics recording. I love the huskiness of Ms. Lennox here. She isn't Francois Hardy but she's not trying to be, either -
This is absolutely TERRIBLE! For crying out loud, she totally killed all the sentiment of the original interpretation! She probably does not even know what she is singing about! She is mocking it! Well, I think we all should MOOO her for her horrendous version of Françoise Hardy's beautiful song!
its such a shame annie was suffering with her voice around this time she had vocal fold polyps in 1983 and as such lost her voice for a bit and consequently she was unable to perform at live aid, she did recover though ^^
I was surprised and glad to find this version of a classic. For all of the French people who are commenting about her bad French, all I have to say is stop complaining that French music isn't appreciated in the UK or US. Why should an artist try to expand or appreciate their audiences in other countries if their pronunciation of the lyrics is going to be bashed by the people that they want to listen to their music.
@Blaubeerwald1 David Stewart is an award winning producer who in latter years since this performance has produced Tom Petty, Mick Jaguar, Rod Stewart, Tina Turner..etc. but I digress, back in the day when I became an official fan around that time, I myself wondered about that.
Amazing, I never knew Eurythmics had covered this song. It's an massive French cult song: easy chords, basic, simple but it does work. Respect to Eurythmics for doing this, as very few people know about French stuff in UK.
Yea, Francoise was a goddess but I like Annie Lennox & co. 100 times better just for covering this one. Someday, the world will truly wake up to just how good Francoise was. Make a great movie/biography!
Agreed. I love the song, and I love Eurythmics, but this version of the song is no good. I think Lennox could have poured a lot of soul into the song and pulled it off beautifully, but trying to turn it into this rock thing didn't go well.
Oh ok of course there is no greater version than the original but this one is great as well ! music is not a black white science but taste ans synthesizers can be nostalgic too so stop the whining
I'm french, & i like this remake of the song... Different from the original, of course, but not bad revisited... Making an exact copy is not interesting, it's always better to make it your way... in my opinion...
OK she don't speak very good french... So what ?
French singer trying to cover english songs are not always very good as well... So what ?
It's more a kind of "homage" for the original singer... In my opinion...
This is a clip from an old (circa 1982? 83?) live concert in the London nightclub "Heaven." Small band, kind of low tech compared to their later work. "Tous les garcons" was an encore after the rest of the band had left the stage,
But: it's a pitty that she sings other words in stead of the correct words! haha.
A little 'genânt' 'cause some of her words mean entirely different things... :-)Like if I would for example try to sing in, lets say Chinese ;-) No, if my Chinese would be as good as her French, I would be proud, of course.
But anyhow, I think she sings it with dedication and she brings across the 'feeling' of the lyrics in spite of the above.

Agreed. I love the song, and I love Eurythmics, but this version of the song is no good. I think Lennox could have poured a lot of soul into the song and pulled it off beautifully, but trying to turn it into this rock thing didn't go well.
