i can relate to this song in many ways. mistakes are made by all. it is a part of being human. some may try to make you feel inferior at times, but they too are flawed and choose to judge you rather than help you. ignore those people and trust in your ability to divide and conquer. for life is much too beautiful to waste on being upset and caught up in your own head.
There are 4 People that have no soul or have lived so far in a bubble protected from the harsh reality of the world. This song is raw, heartfelt and honest and anyone that has had suffering or any troubles in their life can definitely relate to it!
Leeds Festival Sunday 30th August 2009 - Cold Desert was the last song of KOL set, it made all the hair stand up on the back of my neck. Absolutely electrifying, couldn`t have made a better finale. Awesome band, probably the best set i`ve been part of since U2`s Josua Tree tour back in 1987.

I think this is the best song on the album... it's so underrated. The melody is haunting, it lingers and sometimes that's how life seems... frozen it stands still when we see life flashing before out eyes... and our heart break. It reminds me of the poem "In the desert" by Stephen Crane. I can't explain it but this song is just as complex as that poem, and both of them are dysfunctional as the human mind can get. Truly the hidden gem of their album.

It is dont leave no smell on me, I have the album and it says that on the lyrics sheet and if you listen carfully you cant understand alot of the words Caleb Followill sings but those are loud and clear, and Id apreciate it if you wouldnt talk about that song no matter how good it is and would marvel or on such a personal and beautiful song like cold Desert instead of trying to pick a fight...ALL OF YOU

Because in an interview, he was talking about how he looked some of their stuff up on youtube, because being up on stage as they're walking off he always feels like he messed up and everyone is going to notice, and then he said when he saw on youtube everyone sings along so they don't even notice.

yep, nearly all improvised, and he was drunk aswell! Some people fall over, some get emotional, some get violent. Seemingly, Caleb gets creative. Amazing.

I only just got in to the Kings of Leon in Aug. to be exact...lol Lollapalooza, saw them live, feel absoultly in love with their sound, i thought for sure it was pre-recorded, then i talk with the stangehand crew the next day and he said "They would never" I now know all of their songs..in just a short space of time, i blast nothing but KOL now..
